...been living in Atherton most of my life, got my home in 1997. The estate of the late Paul Allen just recently sold, he did not spend a lot of time down here. Back in 1998, I was based in Seattle and for a year I lived in Mercer Island on 66th Street not far from Mr. Allen's Compound, I often saw him buzzing around the island with his Porsche with rock music blasting away, Good Times!

4:15 In 1977 we almost bought a home in Atherton off Valpariso Ave for $150,000. You can see the location on this map at 4:15. It is the corner of Valpariso and 82 which is simply El Camino Real, a street in town not a freeway. It needed a little work so my parents' passed and looked at new construction in Fremont. They made a bit of money on that Fremont home, but how different our lives would have been had they purchased that simpler, less fancy home in Atherton which is worth $5.5M today.

…yes it definitely is. The difference is that in New York, let’s take the very affluent neighborhood of Lennox Hill (10021) the price range for a property is around $350K for a studio to $100M or more for a penthouse unit. While in Atherton a property usually starts around $2.25M as of 2023.
