  • Who's buried at Melbourne General Cemetery? [Melbourne Revealed Ep.4]
This episode in 'Melbourne Revealed' I meet up with the indefatigable Ivan Nevill and we head to the Melbourne General Cemetery to give it a little bit of an exploration. We check out the graves of some former Australian Prime Ministers and chat a bit about them. We also see the monument to explorers Burke and Wills, the Holocaust memorial, the grave of Peter Lalor, the grave of Walter Lindrum and ask 'What is a memorial to Elvis doing at Melbourne Cemetery?' So join us as we present Melbourne'General Cemetery, a place with its own sadness, but also a beauty too. And what will the earliest grave that we find be?

Nothing more 'funner' than visiting a cemetery. With IVAN NEVILL! We had a great time exploring Melbourne General Cemetery and discovering just who was buried there!

At 14:11, the plaques on the wall are where the coffin is placed inside with the stone enclosing it.

There was a comment from someone saying that it’s not appropriate to film graves. I dispute that, people lived, did things and passed on. I am a researcher and what is wrong with telling the stories of people. Very interesting. 🇦🇺👍🍺

I have several ancestors at Melbourne General, but not sure where exactly, or if they even have headstones. Waiting for MGC to release their digitized records.

HI Andy, you weren't too far out with your guess as to how old Melbourne General Cemetery is, it was first used in 1852, not 1853
