  • Each year, hundreds of people without family or next of kin are buried in country Victoria by volunteers who never knew them.
When someone dies and no next of kin can be found - or no-one volunteers to pay for a burial - State Trustees becomes responsible.
Since 2007, Old Ballan Cemetery is one of several locations in Victoria which State Trustees has been using to inter the people who, even in death, have nowhere else to go.

When it is my time to go I have no family to bury me. I am more than happy to give all my earthly possessions and my house if only someone would be kind enough to take care of my last wishes.

I’m pretty sure that if you state what you want in your will and have enough resources there’s plenty of places that would honor your wishes, the people featured are wards of the state, I signed my father over to nsw at the time I didn’t have money to care/bury him and nsw gov was kind enough to cremate and send his ashes in a nice box to me after his death without charge just be careful advertising your situation my friend as there’s lots of organisations that after your $ and not your wishes

@SoundOfOceanBlue Hello. It is important you let someone know what your last wishes are. You could write them and keep it somewhere, so people see it easily, like in your wallet or on your wall. Love to you!

Isnt it rather sad this type of situation. I feel for you. If your last wishes are about your possessions and house, a lawyer and a will can take care of that. Even perhaps leaving in your will your possessions to somewhere like the Salvation Army, I am sure they would collect your stuff and take it and sell it. It will take someone to clean up your house to sell as well.
It all depends on your last wishes but a lawyer would make a good start and a will. God Bless and I wish you well wherever you live.

They seem like nice good hearted people that carry out these funerals anyhow. A way better alternative to perhaps having cold hearted unloving relatives standing around awaiting your burial because one tiny inner voice said to them " at least you should attend - even if you don't care to ".

I was a gravedigger and we buried a few pauper burials usually on the edge of the cemetery I worked in. I did not know 99% of the people I buried. Sometimes it is very hard to find a paupers grave. There would be only myself, a co-worker and the funeral director attending the burial. Very sad occasions...

Found my mothers grave , she was buried with many others in a single grave. After I found it I wanted to put a plaque or stone, but it would not be fair to all the others buried with her. 😢😢

In the Old testament somebody who buries another specifically somebody who has no one else to bury them and nowhere else to be buried is considered doing literally a great service literally it goes who is guaranteed heaven, one who Dowers abride, one who buries the Dead... Is actually doesn't translate as heaven but as the world to come but somebody who does that is considered as being guaranteed. How much more so since they volunteer to do this.
