      Hi Gregor, I am grateful for your enthusiasm to teach us, thank you for your immense generosity, God has blessed you with such talent, I am looking to buy studio monitors, I am looking at (Adam A7v) Would you recommend them for mixing & mastering? If you would recommend others please let me know. Also do you Master your own tracks, if yes what are your prices please, thank you.Roman from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺.

    I use clip gain to even out the wave about 50% using crossfades. The Tube Comp is an LA2A emulation. Alanis Morissette insisted on recording Jagged Little Pill with an LA2A. They're a little bit slower on the attack which lets the initial transient of each word through a little more - something you may not even notice unless its not there, but you can feel it. Makes the words of the song easier to hear and understand and feel. I personally think that is their magic. And being slower, they're a little smoother. You have no attack or release knobs, so you are reminded that you are making music and aren't in control of everything :)

    This may be the most valuable 8-minute tutorial!
    In one video you covered:
    Overviewing the FAT Channel, showing upgrade options, showing how to manually edit via the Clip Gain Envelope, demonstrate was compression does and the role of make-up gain, show how to set the Peak Reduction on an LA-2A-syled compressor (oh, after explaining how Optical Compression works, and why the TubeCOMP has its name, How to Mixdown an Event to see the processed effect, How to convert a Stereo file to Mono, and how to compare waves via overlay.
    Stunning effiiciency and helpfulness, Greggor!

    An unrelated question.
    My audio volume is so low in S1. In normal use, I keep my system volume at about 8-9.
    When using S1, I have to really crank up the volume to 35-40 to get a comparable volume.
    Is there something I can do to increase S1's volume besides juggling my system volume every time I use S1?

    if i use the cut tool for every base note of a bass track does studio one have an option to take all those cut notes and make them the same db level?

  • @ErichWK

    Wait. we're supposed to EQ AFTER compressing?

    • @presonus
      @presonus  Před rokem +1

      it depends! :) EQ before and after compressing are both viable options. A good rule of thumb is this: If you cut frequencies, put the EQ before the Compressor - if you boost frequencies, do it after. -GBY

  • @ridesharesydneydrivers8592

    how would I use this for metal guitar tracks?

    • @presonus
      @presonus  Před rokem +1

      You would compress the lead vocal quite heavily so that it can prevail against the massive walls of guitar that are probably playing at the same time. Try high gain reduction amounts and see what happens. -GBY

  • @RuCatania

    I'm a Presonus fan, but honestly, the problem with the TubeComp and the fat channel in general is, it has no character. This unit doesn't generate any harmonic distortion no matter how hard you push it. It makes the module pointless. Attack and Release curves are important to get the feeling, but that's nothhing you can't achieve using the standard comp module. The truth is, there is no color in it... It looks cool, but it sounds like a clean digital compressor should, just like the stock one.
    For me the fat channel is a great concept, but it just doesn't do the job. I bought several modules, and stop using them in a few days. Maybe the 160 has a kind of nice snappy sound, but I guess if it is for real, or just the fact you can see the Below/Above lights and it visually helps to set it right for some materials.
    Again, I own Presonus Software and Hardware since decades, and I love you guys, but this one is almost a scam.
    Prove me I'm wrong, I'll be happy for me and you.

      It doess say "Tube comp" but its actually a opto compressor. You can add a saturation plugin like the "redlight" plugin which is amazing by the way. Orrr you can use a preamp plugin like a Pre73 or something like that. This plugin is simply a leveler plugin. Not so much a character plugin. Hope this helps
