You can forgive a lack of budget when there's a good story, good performances. Congratulations to everyone involved.
Wow. That's excellent to hear. Thank you for watching and glad you enjoyed it so much!
This is hugely inspiring to someone who wants to make movies out in the real world, low-profile with a smartphone. I've been struggling lately to find what it is I'm not happy with in my filmmaking approach and this has opened my eyes entirely to how liberating it can be to shoot on a phone. You can work faster, not get hassled by security, and in general just do more with less resources. Thank you for making this amazing short.
Thanks Nick! You've pretty much listed all the reasons why I love filming with my iphone. There's no way I could have shot this at such speed or at such locations otherwise. Go for it!
Whoa. I am Izzie. It means so much to know we're not the only ones! Great acting, story and film-making! Thank you for sharing and understanding!
this just proves it’s not the equipment that makes a movie special. it’s the editing and effort put into it.
Thank you! A LOT of pre-planning made this low/no budget film possible. ☺️
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker this film was so amazing!! I love it. thank you, too
The shots
The use of location
The transitions
The fade out at the end.
The cut always
This was well shot
Wow! Thanks so much! I have been studying cinematography books and editing via CZcams also so appreciate. Thanks for watching.
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker what books did you read ? And can you share some links to the edit
@@ajasco2k I will detail pretty much every stage of making this film including the books that I used but they are called Mastertshots 2nd edition, Vol 2 and Vol 3. I used DaVinci Resolve to edit.
I loved this ! I suffer from social anxiety and I feel like her when I'm out in public. Thank you for making a film touching on much anxiety affects so many people.
Thank you! That was me going to parties and that's if I actually got on the train. Things are better now thankfully but it's always a work in progress. It's particularly difficult to live with as most people won't see the anxiety necessarily.
Wow!! Congrats!! This is beautiful, heartfelt, excellently told... this is what filmmaking is all about. A great story that needs to be told, and it's splendidly done with care and love... LOVE IT!! :)
This is some fantastic work with professionalism and amazing camera techniques ,kudos to those actors as well
Thank you! I really wanted that to come across so I appreciate that and yes they are brill!
Excellent work Rob. Your efforts are very inspiring and I love your ambition. Keep up the great work!
Thanks man! Appreciate it. Gotta push those boundaries! 👊🏻
This was amazing Rob! Everyone did amazing! Congrats!!
Thanks mate! Very happy with how it turned out.
this was amazing. i feel so nauseous before any social gathering, it’s not the people that make me anxious as such, it’s the fear of feeling anxious that makes me nauseous.
this was so relatable though, incredible work! feel so inspired to make my own short film shot on my iphone.
Thanks so much! I have definitely been there too. It was pretty crippling at times. That’s what inspired this film.
If you want to start learning how to make films on your iPhone then you are in the right place. 👍🏻
I feel like I really understood this film - I don't have anxiety like this but people close to me do, and it really made me think. Brilliant job.
Thank you so much. Appreciate the thoughtful feedback. : )
Excellent! Well done Rob and to Lizzie! Amazing!
Thanks so much Nisha! Glad you enjoyed it!
This is such BRILLIANT work, Rob - the shots have such a filmic quality, can't believe it's only shot on an iPhone! Excellent performances, sound mixed so well... take a bow sir!
Thanks Katherine! A HUGE amount of prep went into this so glad its not gone unnoticed. The sound was a nightmare at times so that's particularly appreciated!
Very Inspiring for the ones who want to make films but are reluctant due to various reasons best known to many of us. Still going out and making a film is great work and shows what commitment is. And for all the smartphone filmmakers this is our guide .
Thanks so much! I do hope this inspires people to get out and create using their smartphone. No excuses to start learning the art of filmmaking these days. : )
Fantastic film. Great cinematography and I love the main actor, what a stellar performance. Look forward to your next project.
Thanks so much Lyle! Yeah she’s fantastic that’s for sure. I have a few ideas but nothing set in stone yet.
I saw the link to this film on the facebook group! Absolutely incredible! Well done! Loved the main character!
Thanks for watching! I am currently making a BTS series so stay tuned and yes she is fab!
Brilliant work. it really hit those soft notes with me as I experience the world in a similar fashion due to autism. Keep up the fantastic work and well done...
Thanks! Man that must be super tough. Hopefully this helps people at least feel less alone in their struggles. Thanks for watching!
ShotOniPhone! Beautiful, simply beautiful!
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it so much.
Well done 👍🏻 Respect the efforts gone into producing this awesome short film. ✌🏻🇦🇺
Thanks so much! As a one man band I can confirm it was indeed A LOT of work. 👍🏻
This is fantastic! Great work my man! Great work from everyone involved very inspiring🎥❤
Ah Thank you mate! I was a one man crew pre, during and after the shoot but the actors were fantastic. More to come!
I was looking on a How to do a video and found this precious gem instead. The clickbait is strait to the point, the acting is impressive and editing is done smoothly. Even the closing scene with the book on its shelve was genious. But nobody ever talked about social anxiety on which Id felt myself in my teen years and early adulhood. I was painfully shy and when people looked strait at me, I used to stammer and to shake. People called we weirdo, faggot or even worst. I was a perfect target for bullies from students and teachers alike! I didnt have a girlfriend until I was 24. Not because I was an ugly guy, it was because my terrible insecurity and lack of confidence. But I was very good with a camera and a big smile. That opened me a whole world of experiences and new friends. Im not longer shy nor timid and make friends easily. I think this video is a real diamond. Thanks for sharing!
super inspiring! love the storyline and acting!
Thanks so much! It was a real labour of love. : )
This literally moved me to tears and it's literally so rare for me to do so when watching something.
This is beautifully written, shot and edited❤❤❤❤ thank you so much for making this.... you don’t understand how comforting this makes me feel cuz i also have similar issues and to realise there's more people like me and there are friends who really care (i am very grateful to have a friend like that).. hopefully more people will try to understand people with anxiety and build strong deep friendships❤
Wow! Thank you so much for the amazing feedback. This was based I some of my experiences and friends too so you are definitely not alone. : ) It's really hard at times and I still find myself struggling from time to time a lot. The more kind we are to ourselves and at the same time push ourselves out of our comfort zones the easier it gets. A friend who understands is so important. Thanks for watching.
Thank you. More of us are dealing with these issues than you may realise.
You’re very welcome. Couldn’t agree more. The story comes from personal experiences as well as those of friends.
This is great, the cast were exceptional.
Thank you! Yes I was super happy with everyone's performances.
The story line is on point. Every shot is powerfully crafted and moving the story forward. Good job.
Thanks so much! A LOT of effort went in to each of those filmmaking aspects so appreciate it!
Is it? I feel like it's alright but the reason for the main character to be so mad at the friend's reasonable frustration doesn't make sense to me. The main character should have struggled with her choice a bit more and then the friend visits from Aus or something. The text message scene was brilliant, though. I loved that.
absolutely killer short film!
Thanks man! : )
Fantastic film Rob.. you should be so proud
Thanks! Yes I am very happy with how this film came together. Learnt a lot too.
I'm always impressed when get are shot on an iPhone. What a delightfully fun main character
Thanks! I have learnt it’s more about how you use the camera available to you than the camera itself. Glad you enjoyed it!
Well done! This was great considering your limitations. I really loved the natural performances too. Inspiring for sure. 👏
Thanks mate! Yes there were plenty of limitations that’s for sure! Will be doing a follow up series with more bts soon. 👍🏻
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker I'm looking foward to that 👍
The cast performance was 🔥 seriously mind-blowing that makes the film feel very authentic and the shot designs were done very well big ups to you brother.. it was really inspirational ❤️🫂🤜🤛
Wow. Thanks so much for the feedback! The casting was hugely important to me so glad you picked up on that. I used the Moment tele photo lens to makes the shots much more claustrophobic. Thanks!
Great direction and story telling rob!! 😍👌👏👍 Also brilliant acting by the leading lady!! 😍👏👌👍
Thank you! I spent ages on those aspects so good to hear! Yes she's fantastic isn't she? Got very lucky with the cast. Thanks for watching. : )
That was really good. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks so much!
Rob, wonderful short! Hope to see a behind the scenes on this.
Thank you! Yes I didn’t have anyone specifically doing that so I got as much as I could and will be doing follow ups on which accessories I chose to use/ not use and why.
Hi Rob, congrats on this film amazing!!!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
Terrific work. Very well done.
Thanks! Appreciate it.
Excellent, excellent stuff. Congratulations!
Thank you so much!
Thumbs up button doesn't do it justice. Inspirational mate. Starting out here looking to film for local businesses and help the environment in return. Spare time I am determined to make a short film by year end. Keep inspiring!
Thanks mate! Good to see someone looking to help the environment! I look forward to seeing your film.
So good!! Nice one Rob!
Thanks Amy! : )
this is just great. very accurate.
Thank you! It’s based off of personal experiences and those of friends too.
Really moving film - with great acting
Thank you so much! Appreciate it.
Ты проделал действительно большую работу.Молодец.(Актёрам тоже огромная благодарность!)Так держать,чувак!И да - спасибо за труды.
I just google translated this. Thank you so much! Yes the actors were great and it was tough but a fun shoot. Thank you!
Great film! I can relate to the protagonist, i had the same problem. Great job to everyone!
Thank you! The story is based off of personal experiences and those from friends so I feel you on that for sure.
Your film looks beautiful!!
Thanks so much. A huge amount of effort went into this film so I appreciate it.
You sir, are an EXCELLENT filmmaker. The story, acting and cinematography are always so on point. I truly love your stuff. Everytime I see your films it makes me want to go make something,, sadly the only actors I have access to are my kids... lmao. Keep em coming.
Wow! Thanks mate! I studied cinematography with books and youtube so that's helped a ton. It super tough if you don't have out and out actors but keep doing your thing! Maybe write something your kids could play a role in if comfortable with that.
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker My kids are no actors. Trust me. 😂😂😂😂
@@MobileFilmmaking I see! 😄
Very nice, beautifully executed.
Thanks for watching! A lot of work went into this short film. : )
She's such a wonderful actor
She really is! She recently booked a role in a west end show in London which is awesome!
Brother, this is amazing! It has a very very filmic quality to it, as if it was shot on film. And the excellent performances makes it a REAL film, not just "something shot on a smartphone". I guess it helps a lot when the director is a trained actor too ;)
Thank you! I got lucky with my cast but it definitely helps being an actor too. Will be doing a BTS series soon too which I think will surprise quite a few people. : )
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker I imagine shooting in the train and train station without a permit was possible because of the inconspicuous footprint of a smartphone!
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker Also curious about your audio recording workflow. The audio and dialogue was very clean!
@@RJBaculo Thanks! I will definitely be going into that soon.
Awesome work!
Thanks!
Wow this is really super epic brother!! Shot on a phone very incredible and most of all the story is perfect. Congrats!
Thanks so much mate! Yes I spent month ironing out the story so glad you though so!
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker Yeah and i can tell that you really invested in alot of time and effort. I'm thinking of doing a similar short film before the fall of this year, definitely I will need to pick up a leaf from your incredible work!
@@D-watt7 Defo get planning. That helped me no end more than anything else I think. In that case I look forward to seeing what you make!
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker You're right and definitely it will be up for watching when completed. With that said, well done mate, very nice and emotional piece to watch!
@@D-watt7 Thank you again. All the best with it!
The actors made this award winning that pedro guy in the other films let your team down but excellent job on here well done
Loved it, thanks.
Thanks so much!
This is amazing. Wow I need you to lecture me on how you do this. Congratulations
Really well shot and acted.
Thanks so much! I'll be making another short when I get the time for sure.
Brilliant mate!
Thanks so much bud!
That was so good!
Thanks mate! Glad you liked it so much!
Congrats! Love the fact that you went out and did it, despite having a “cinema camera”. Cheers!
Correction, “Not having a cinema camera”.
Thanks! Start with whatever you have and go from there. This film was pretty much zero budget. : )
Great little short Rob. I know that feeling well
Thanks so much Simon! It’s a pretty crippling feeling at times but hopefully creating like this helps others feel less alone.
Sound design on the outside parts is very well done.
Thank you. It was really difficult as I had just one Rode wireless go but with a lot of tweaking it seems to have worked.
Thank you very much Sir🙏🙏. May God bless you 🙏🙏🙏. You probably have no idea how this made me feel. I follow you on twitter and from there I came to know about the premiere today. I set reminder for this and all I cam say to you that thank you very much sir 🙏
Thank you mate! This film is born out of personal experiences and I wanted to make a film that would make people feel less lonely with these issues that can really take over. Appreciate it. Look after yourself.
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker more power to you sir.
Great work!!
Thanks!
Wow!!!
Thank you!
Looks really good for iPhone! I’m filming my first short film this upcoming summer and watching this made me feel more comfortable filming on my iPhone 14 Plus. I do wonder how you went about with audio?? I’m getting stuck on how to have great audio
Thanks! I used the rode wireless go. If people are wearing more than one layer of clothing it's quite easy to hide the mic. Good luck with your shoot!
Well done. Especially liked the train sequences. It would be interesting to see BTS.
Thanks! The train sequences had to be unbelievably low key as you can imagine but I managed to get some BTS so stay tuned!
So so impressive!
Thank you Rachel!
Due I can literally feel the breathtakeing anxiety this woman has
Thanks. She is fantastic. It's great to hear people are relating to this film. : )
Once you stated that you didn't use a gimbal, I had to watch this again. Amazing work! You've convinced me to go gimbaless though I'll probably still have to use one for my chase scene. lol.... maybe....
Yeah it’s amazing what you can do without a gimbal! Thanks. Just think which way of filming is going to tell the story best.
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker You've given me a lot to think about lately... Thankd
So great. I loved the multitude of angles during the dialogue. How did you record the audio?
Thank you! It was all very tricky as I had only one Lav mic. My next video will detail all accessories I used and why. 👍🏻
I am creating a short film for my state theater and I was scared to do it on my phone, but this kind of gives me more confidence
It's very doable these days. I have a bunch of tutorials on getting the more professional look out of your smartphone. Good luck with the film!
Great work. And dammnit, isn't that Dulwich Park. There used to be a pair of Mandarin ducks that would swim around under that bridge . . . though I am going back several decades.
Thanks! Yes, that's right it's beautiful there! As soon as I saw that spot I knew it had to be shot on that bridge. The Geese were creating a major sound issue off camera!
Enjoyed this! From a technical perspective how many shots did you get e.g. for the over the shoulder dialogue? Did you have a master audio or did you record new audio for each shot?
Thank you! The park scene started off with around 8 shots but atleast 3 of them ending up being unnecessary. I used audio straight from the live takes but had to do a lot of fixing in post.
Amazing work! Did you use any external lens for the job or just the phone?
Thanks so much! I actually made a bts series on the short film. I used the Moment 58mm Tele Photo lens. Here's my affiliate link. partner.shopmoment.com/zaXqk0
Who ever was behind the camera has a nice eye!
Thanks! ☺️
This looks outstanding. The color grading is amazing. Everything was practical and natural lighting?
Thank you so much! I actually used a Moment Lut after colour correcting. I also have a behind the scenes series on how I made this film. Apart from the bedroom scene and the book shop downstairs (even then i only used a few small lights) everything was shot with natural/available/practical lighting.
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker you inspire me to shoot with the iphone and that i can make something good with low money
Rob this film is brilliant!!
Thanks Soph! A lot of time and effort went into this so glad you liked it so much!
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker for some reason I felt anxious watching it. The work has paid off. Hope you do more films soon. X
@@Waggers789 That's definitely what I had hoped for with this. I definitely have some ideas in the pipeline but no idea what the next film will be yet. x
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker really looking forward to seeing more of your work. So proud of you lovely. X
Nice one Rob.
Thanks Andy!
Your first premiere...if I'm not mistaken. 📺💯👨🎤
It sure is pal!
This is awesome, loved it...
I am also trying to shoot on an iPhone 12, just wondering what equipment/tripod you used?
Thanks! I literally shot almost everything handheld with an ND filter for outdoor and the Rode wireless go for audio.
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker I loved it!!
How do you change parts with people still talking without pausing then moving to a different spot also did you used a different lens
Run through the whole scene from every angle needed so you can then edit any way you want to afterwards in post production.
Fantastic
Thanks man!
I’ve been wanting to make one but don’t know how I got a good idea. This was great tho!!
Thanks! My second to last video I uploaded may help you. It’s about how to make your first smartphone film. 👍🏻
Wow is all I have to say. You Sir are a creator. Did you use any external light for the darker scenes?
Thank you! Only with the interior scenes. I had a NEEWER bi colour panel which I used for the opening scene, and a small falcon eyes F7 to back light the actors in the book shop. With the exterior scenes I made the most of available lighting.
Amazing
Thank you!
Great film! I'm curious to know what lens you used for this video?
Thank you! I used the Moment 58mm tele photo lens.
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker awesome! I’ve just bought ana anamorphic lens but the telephoto looks like it’s excellent for filming too.
Good job👍
Thank you! 👊🏻
I have a question my video get noisy on Shadow side I used filmic pro and my iso was 50 🧐 is it I was using log2 on 8bit ??? It was in day time
Make sure your iso is as low as it can go. Log V2 can be a bit noisy. I would try shooting in flat. There will always be some noise in smartphone filming but we have to minimise it.
Good film
Thank you.
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker plan on making more?
U should start making feature films man! Let’s kick down the barriers between smartphones and cinema cameras. Lol
One day perhaps. How much money do you have? lol
Is the sound also recorded on the iPhone? If not, what microphone did you use?
I used the original single rode wireless go. I'd switch the mic from one actor to another for their takes.
Hello. The entire film was shot only with the IPHONE 12? How did you get that Bokeh with such a small sensor?
woow
Thanks!
😮😮😮😮😮
Yep!
did you use any lens on your phone with this and did u film it with filmic pro
I used an external Tele Photo lens with Filmic Pro.
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker wich lens?
@@Walterconv Moment 58mm M-Series Tele.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
👊🏻
Cheers old bean!
how was the blurry background achieved? i thought i12 have no cinematic mode
I used Moment M-Series 58mm tele lens. Added a lot more blur and separation between the foreground and background.
Is free to watch and also was shot and edited on iPhone
Hi. Shot on iPhone 12 and edited on DaVinci Resolve.
Which mic you used in your video?
Rode wireless go.
Congratulations,greetings from Turkey ....
Daylight was a little too much. 10:29
Thank you so much! Yes agreed. I had to be key low key as possible meaning I couldn’t have anyone holding the diffusion unfortunately.
john is that you? #saw
NAURRRR YOU DID NOTTT😭😭😭💀
Excellent putting some big buck productions to shame, and it shows what a phone camera can produce these days.
Thanks Vic! That was the aim. Did a lot of location scouting too which helped.
