    Its a great film, best I've seen in years -it respects its subject matter and is true to what happened, very important given that this is such an important event for the Czech people and, frankly, should be regarded as an important event by the UK

      yup, I agree. It was one of the turning points in the WWII. The Czechs and Slovaks are brother nations and we are brave. England, France and other nations sold the Czech nation to pacify Hitler. They betrayed us - small nation, no nation, right? But we fought back and we always will.

      @@245-TRIOXIN Britain and France had a treaty with Czechoslovakia to act in case of invasion. Chamberlain betrayed Czechoslovakia to appease Hitler saying why would we fight in a distant country for people we know nothing about and people were cheering. Chamberlain was a coward and traitor.

    some trivia ,some spoilers:
    - we do not actually know how the assassination happened. they trained for bomb, second bomb and then submachine gun. something must went wrong, or the testimonies are distorted
    - when rounding up the church, ss screwed up, closing the circle.so was there a back door from church(which wasnt) they would be able to escape
    - Heydrich actually recognized them. in the preparation phase, they used to ride bicykles around his castle .they met him few times, while he was riding horse and greeted him
    -we dont know the cause of death. long time myth was perithonitis , but autopsy did not show such think and a fact, that autopsy itself was non standard , it only plays to speculations.
    -Gabčík never stepped in the way, he was trying to shoot from the pavement on the car passing by
    -in the final fight, czech commandos had only pistols, no submachine guns and they lasted so long because nazis tried to get them alive. in fact, Kubiš died on his way to hospital
    -Čurda lived for rest of the war as gestapo confidant under false name and was hanged by czechs in 1947
    -result of this was destruction of Lidice and Ležáky and also nullification of Munich pact
    - the manhunt was so massive, it slowed down operations on the eastern front
    -during the martial law, people where executed just for aledged approval the attack
    -there are two more movies, black and white czech Atentát from sixties and american operation daybreak

    • @letecmig
      @letecmig Před 7 lety +5

      Operation Daybreak was actually THIRD reinterpretation of the events in a movie.
      first: Hangmen also die(USA, 1943), second: Atentat (Czechoslovakia, 1964)
      Atentat(1964) is actually much better movie than Operation Daybreak, true war movie classic-unfortunately little known outside CZ

      I was also surprised that Operation Daybreak was not mentioned. I think it was the better film. Heydrich features more, through the excellent Anton Diffring so you know why he was the target. The character of Heydrich in the new film is skirted around. The actor playing him doesn't speak! Anyone unfamiliar with Heydrich is not going to learn about him by watching this film. I think that was an opportunity lost.

    This may be spoilers, but people kinda need to know. If you have a problem with suicide or visual depictions of suicide, do not go watch this film. I've not been to see it yet. The 1975 film Operation Daybreak was an excellent movie and remakes of films rarely achieve the standard of the original one. Plus the original one had a star studded cast which made it that much better.

  • @emperorbort9405
    @emperorbort9405 Před 6 lety +4

    I want to love the film but it structurally doesn't give certain things enough attention in the first half and the romance sub plot is very poorly done and feels rushed. However the third act is simply excellent and immensely gripping.

    • @joshuashell2234
      @joshuashell2234 Před 3 měsíci

      I agree the romantic subplot feels very forced just to be there so that it has an emotional impact later but it really falls very flat however the development isn't enough. And the announcement of marriage was absolutely ridiculous and the movie does not pull this scene off at all. I don't like that it just happens to be that the women they have to pose with as normal couples actually have a romantic interest in each other and not just one but BOTH protagonist. I think it would have been much more dramatic to have one sub romantic plot thats more developed and the other protagonist "cillian Murphy" would have to contend with the stakes of having it compromise the mission. We see this in the scene where he is shaving in front of the mirror but it goes a different way in tone just to emphasize that his partner is scared scared and thats the loading bullet training part to calm him down. Just unfortunate I think that the movie just mishandled that as a drama in the first half and it does hurt the film unfortunately. However it the movie really has a complete turn around with the 3rd act to kinda make up for this with the action. Not enough to save it but just eased the wound of poor subplot development. Overall good movie despite it's unfortunate romantic subplot flaws
