I wish that somebody would ask him how he thinks his form is compared to the Slovenians and how his form has improved since Tirreno, where he was dropped by Pogacar
Close in the TT but some way off climbing I imagine, not that he'd admit that. He's definitely peaking at the right time but Pog/Rog have been stellar for months now. Going to be interesting if everyone stays upright.
I think he’s some way off their level, but if Ineos can control the race, he can win the overall. UAE aren’t even close to being good enough to protect Tadej, and Roglic is beatable, of course. If Pogacar can continue with his efforts at 450 watts in the third week, no one can touch him. Thankfully, we won’t find out until they line up at the end of June. I’d love to see G find something very special at the killer moment.
I respectfully disagree. GT and Bernal are clearly the Ineos top riders, with TGH up there also. Dave B will not favour one over the other, and instead 'let the road decide'. Im a big fan of GT, so full disclosure there, so my view may be bias. That said, Im confident that the man in the best form (and GC standing) by the start of week 3 will be supported in week 3 by the rest of the team. I don't believe Bernal is the automatic favourite.
@@berg7417 I'm not saying it was better in the old days when you had one captain. And you better understand your place if you were a domestique. I don't know if you remember the PDM team? They had many good riders. Including Sean Kelly. But for a grand tour they would only have one captain. I'm not sure it works with: Hey, let's wait and see what happens.
@@nielskjr5432 I think Dave B has to try and manage a team of superstars as best he can. If Bernal was chosen as the number one, the captain, from day one, which the rest of the team supports, then GT and CF before him may well have left Sky/INEOS. Besides that, having two GC contenders gives the team a plan B. Many unforeseen variables can be less disastrous when you have a plan B. A rogue bidon for example. Also, surely its prudent to see who has the legs going into the last week. In that respect, a 'Wait and see' approach, is a sensible approach. In my opinion.
@@berg7417 the Wolfpack (Deceunick) is another super team. Many very strong riders. Especially for the spring classics. I don't know how they do it. But they really sacrifice themselves for a team mate. There's a spirit here like nowhere else in the peloton.

The problem is they've got many captains at Ineos. If Bernal is in top shape, Thomas is only playing second fiddle.
