Basic Well Child Exam: Saint Louis University School of Medicine Pediatric Rotation

This video demonstrates my version of the pediatric well child exam. The video does not include more specific exams (joint exams, full neuro exam) that would typically not take place during a standard well child visit. Additionally, please recognize that each provider performs the exam a little bit differently, so please discuss any variations with your supervising provider if you have any questions. I never understand the fully American culture of checking the “developing” on boys from 10 to 18 what an uncomfortable unnecessary moment for you young patience. (Cuz most teen boys refuse but most doctor drive them to do it, telling them “stories”
As an European doctor. I know all the statistics about testicular cancer and undressing 2,000 teen boys ( and make them had a bad time ) just because 2 of them had cancer seems pretty unfair
* most cancer patience found the bumps themselves or feel pain and go to the doctor
About hernias: asymptomatic ones are not a problem, it will “not ripped out when you are playin any sport”
Undesended tescticle: really? That’s when you are a new born if your parent did not notice, well call kids service to get new ones cuz they did a bad job as parents.
In most European countries no doctor is “dropping” your pants after 9 yo. Our teen are teach to check themselves, are teach about right development and what to do when they notice something strange.
If necessary we to check down there always let your patience know is HIS DESSICION and ask for the allowance, to check hernias, varicocele and testicular cancer you only need to put your GLOVED hand inside the boy underwear.
The American process to this is really wrong.
Have you ever ask yourself why so many teen boys quit sports ? The country is growing in obesity. Nobody should request a teenager to let them see their privates just to play sports. And if they don’t want them and you drive them or forced, we’ll outside an hospital that has a really bad name and it will send you to jail.

I had commented on this video about the dr who assaulted me as a teen, stating the importance of consent/assent. Of course, the singing dr deleted it. I'm 47, I've avoided doctors since that event, and will for the rest of my life. My abuser is still practicing, and had a recent complaint against him for making inappropriate comments towards another teen boy. The patient always has the right to refuse a GU exam, unless it's an emergent situation.
