Sick of being stuck at an F# - G4 with your vocal range? You’re not alone and trust me, you're not a baritone. I’ve made the fix absolutely free over at this channel. Guaranteed.
it’s not about how high you can sing, it’s about the tone your range has
yeah i'm not baritone, i'm frking bass
Shut up
Yeah sorry dude not how it works. Your voice is your voice you can't "fix it." I'm lucky i have an extremely deep range and mid tone range naturally, but it's not something I was taught I just have it.

We’ll never ever have another vocalist in rock music like layne. Anyone can sing, but this man was a vocal pioneer
It warms my heart to know people still care bout this guy. miss you brother
They get lumped into grunge so often because of the era they were in but Alice in Chains is one of the most unique bands in rock history. I think they will continue to find an audience.
@@gratewight69 they are DEFINITELY grunge bro lol
@@cooldolphiin way more alt metal than anything but you can think what you want. The only real reason they get considered grunge is because they are a Seattle band, otherwise they are way way harder than any grunge band. Jerry Cantrell has even said in interviews that he considers them metal above all other genres.
Did you know him? Spent many nights going down the layne Staley rabbit hole. His music always touched me.
@@gratewight69 dude you could say nirvana is alt metal too. That’s basically what grunge is.
The 90s were such a fun time to be 20 something. I really miss this era. RIP Layne.
I wasn’t 20 but started high school in 1998….and I loved being part of the 90’s still….i still remember living with mom and rocking Alice In Chains 😊.
Haha hard was my teens fuckin awesome time to be alive
💯👏🏻
I turned 13 in '91. My entire teenage life was the 90's. I agree with this sentiment. It was the best of times, as far as I'm concerned.
I enjoyed it but as a teen. How old are you now if you were 20 something in the 90s? That would put you likely in your 50s. Your pic looks like you're in your 30s!
He really did have a powerful, beautiful voice and an ability to convey emotion.
Wish he was still here.
Dude so true
The emotion and soul of music is what popular music nowadays is missing. Everything is formulaic copy cat ear garbage that while it sounds perfect, lacks any soul. Robert Plant from Zeppelin messed up multiple times playing guitar solos on their albums and it makes the songs more passionate and real. I can listen to the majority of pop and country songs and be able to predict what's gonna come next. I want to be surprised when I listen to a band or an artist.
i sang that note once. trying to remove my foreskin from my zipper.
Haaaa haaaa haaaa...ohhhh wait. Aahhhhaaaa. Painfully TMI but credit for singing great music!!
LMAOOOOOOOO 😩😂😂😂😂
DUDE 😂😂😂

Lmao🤣🤣🤣🤣
James Hatfield from Metallica said that Layne w/ just 1/2 a lung, sang better than he ever did
*Hetfield. That’s big respect right there! In James’ defense, few people can play rhythm guitar like him, let alone sing at the same time.
That's an accurate assessment. James has the perfect voice for the music they make. No one has ever accused him of being a ground-breaking vocalist. What he does (James: rhythm guitar and vocals) probably can't be matched, and that's why Layne Staley seldom played guitar in the band (Alice, not Metallica, obvious!) He needed to save his lungs for "the good stuff."
That's not really saying much
Oh really hetfield like u really had to clear that up for us. The week b4 Layne died he could sing 100× better than James.
Metallica what a pack of wankers 🖕🏻🤣
@@samhain6953 that's the truth, he's just sucking up for talking trash in the past

Best band I saw in the 90’s. Was amazing
Saw them open for Van Halen and they IMMEDIATELY became my favorite band, bought Dirt the next day and he's been my favorite singer of all time ever since...
Saw them a few more times, but with William and although he does good, there is obviously no comparison whatsoever...
Hollywood Rock Rj 93…Bons tempos…
It was truly an awesome experience
Man I love that guys voice. Kills me to know he lived his last days the way he did. Such talent and a gift to humanity and died alone and heart broken.
Layne had the perfect voice for their sound.
Their around was built around his voice bro
Jerry Cantrell on the backing vocals 🔥🔥🔥
Yea to me ... Obviously Layne had the most powerful voice of the era but in combination with Jerry....it was just head shaking amazing and beautiful
@@orcvsivstitia7608 It really was amazing
My cousin went to High School with Jerry. Jerry is one bad 6 stringin thrashin MF fore sure and can hang with the best of them. Ahh Layne, so many of us relate to the emotion your voice induced, even in death people still find themselves in your music. Thank you bro.
Layne was a childhood friend of mine, to say our little group of friends miss him is a understatement. To this day the few of us get together every couple of yrs to celebrate his life. I gave Layne his first cigarette, he Puked for 10 min then asked for another. 😂 he was talented beyond his yrs and never knew it. RIP buddy, see you in the next one.

I've said it before. Some people can't just simply be replaced, especially a singer, and more, a singer like Layne.

Dude was an awesome vocalist.
One of the absolute best singers to ever touch a microphone......so sad he's gone
Layne & Scott Weiland really had beautiful voices, for the era of grunge & stepping out of there comfort zone with softer melodies. 2 of my favorite front men from the grunge era.
Absolutely… couldn’t agree more
I agree, I always thought it was weird how STP got compared to Pearl Jam when they only sounded like AIC back in the core album days.
luv me some STP 🥰
Scott had a great voice. Even has a Xmas Solo album which shows his wide range
It's a shame. He brought so much with his voice, but couldn't battle his demons. I bet they did Behind the Music. I like watching music documentaries.
Most underrated voice in all music in my humble opinion
Hahahah ok ……
wouldn't say most underrated. everyone knew how great he was. he was known for it.
By who
I agree
Under rated?? How is he under rated?? Like everybody ive ever heard talk about greatest rock voices ever have all put Layne top 3 most of them have put him #1
His vocal strength was on another level
My heart still weeps for the loss of Layne. William is good vocalist but the poems and lyrics created by Layne are a creative enlightening that my spirit will not forget.
No one will ever sing like Layne. Even with training, you cannot get that combo off grit, sustain, vibrato, darkness and beauty, and he could belt. He sang chords, never mind notes.
Look, the guy was good. He was. But he's
not quite as unique as people like you try to make him out to be. There are many vocalists out there that can sing just as well, and I've heard more than a couple Alice in Chains tribute bands with frontmen that sound just like him. (This kid here is not far off. And I've heard others that were damn near imperceptible as not being Layne.) czcams.com/video/6R2CxmDriUg/video.html
Say you are missing the point without saying you are missing the point.
… I know this comment is a year old but… I just HAVE to say. No, he didn’t “sing chords”
That’s physically not possible. Some people can sing two notes at once but that’s SUPER RARE. I don’t even know why you’d say something so insanely wrong like he “sings chords”
Chords are multiple notes at once being played. Usually in a triad. To create a major or minor chord. Theory 101. What the fuck does that sentence you said even mean lmao
@@daemonthorn5888nope I’ve listened to the tribute bands too, not even close

I hear atleast one Alice in chains or Mad season song a day. My favor song is River of Deceit.
Definitely would have loved to see what music he still had to offer. We didn’t have enough time with him. RIP Layne
Love Hate Love is a great showcase for his talent.
Hell yes! Especially in the Live at The Moore video.
Yep. Just listened to it today ironically 😂
I sing or try to sing along in my car to the CD and it leaves me with a crazy feeling in my chest. Like heart palpitations or something.😅
❤
@@Ninjacow222I find it easier to sing anything from peak AiC after slamming 30 bags of smack. I just cant do it now that I am sober.
Hitting that note, vs hitting with power like Layne did, are two very different things. In addition, you’ve got to sing the entire song - not just one go at the chorus. To put this in perspective, you’d sing through the entirety of several other songs first as he would have had to in a live situation. THEN you can say “I just did it”.
I’d be willing to bet that even singing (at full intensity as he did) through Love Hate Love then Man in the Box (and sounding good doing it) would be enough to humble anyone who doesn’t truly appreciate his range. It really wasn’t just about Layne’s range though. It was about the intensity, how good it sounded, and how acrobatic his runs were simultaneously.
So is there a reason you decided to antagonize a random commenter, from what I'm gathering it seems like it was a pretty good morning quiet flow, so somebody has to stir the pot.
Let me guess, you're a dickie-don't
Ain't that right sugar?
Man In The Box isn't even his hardest part. If you can belt at high tenor, you can probs get this one, but he has higher and harder and more technical songs to get through first. Complex blues runs, high 5th harmonies, and full-throat air-raid wailing. And then if someone really wants to say they can do what Layne did, they also have to do all of this with a fatal heroin addiction. Yeah, this dude was one of a kind.
Jerry sang just as much or more on some songs
Considering Layne was high as shit most of the time .
Acrobatic indeed...
RIP to an actual grunge legend. If y'all haven't seen the documentary about him on CZcams I highly recommend it.

Grew up listening to AIC and still anyone has yet to come close to how Layne’s voice sounded and how his voice captivated you on most of their songs.
A true legend in the music industry. Layne's vocals combined with Cantrell's ear for structure gave AIC a sound that no other band has ever come close to replicating. Not even they themselves can truly recapture what made that music so powerful now that he's gone. Never forgotten though. Rest in Paradise Layne.

Honestly there's tons of vocalists that can hit high note like that powerfully and they're not all pros or famous musicians. This isn't what made Layne a legend. It's how honest his craft was. How raw his performances and how unique his voice was. Not to mention how creative he was. He had original ideas for singing. Range and music theory is not what makes someone great.
Yeah I loved Layne, he was amazing, but Jeff Buckley could have done this in his sleep. And mostly, in my opinion, I don't think that song was even close to being Laynes best vocal performance with AIC.

Yea... him and Jerry where really an unmatchable team.
Yeah, there will never be another Layne! Truly one of a kind 🎵🎤 My opinion only, as follows: "I feel his strongest vocal performance was when he took the stage @ Live at the Moore". He had something very special about him that many didn't, it was his ability to feel his pain through his singing. However, I absolutely loved him with Mad Season & for many reasons. I think Mad Season really showed his souful and bluesy side which was so smooth and incredible. Although him & Jerry did have some of the best harmonizing vocals ever. I'd say with Mad Season his vocals were the lead & focal point and he shined like a diamond. I remember when he was jamming with em' and he was playing the guitar too, he looked at me almost like a kid in a candy store" you could see that he was having fun enjoying it but at the same time almost like he was surprised that he was getting to play too." I thought that was the coolest. ☺️ Chris Cornell did an incredible job when he honored him by singing his parts at the Mad Season celebration. Cornell is without a doubt, another power house vocalist!
His live vocals are just as good if not better then album versions, hes amazing
