  • The Original Soul Sector 1998 Demo - Real Hip Hop Freestyle Dance. San Francisco / Oakland, California
In this video: Mikey Disko, Kwaze, Stevie, Ron, Chandra, Jorgie, Ceasar, Jimmy, A.O.N.E, and Perayd
    Bit of background:
Soul Sector established it's name in 1998 when Mikey Disko assembled 3 different groups of friends that have been dancing since the early 90's to form a new Bay Area hip hop dance group. The original focus of the group was to cypher..period. Soul Sector was just a group of hip hop heads that wanted to dance and represent that street style from the early 90's that was dying out. Soul Sector's style was influenced by hip hop social dances, NYC groups such as the Mop Tops (Elite Force), and a mix of all the street dances and club culture of that era.
    Video:
This video was edited at the end of 1998 by Jesse Drew & Mikey Disko. It is a mix of random footage that we shot between 1997-98. The songs are Work The Angles / WhenImondamic / Battle Drill. We used hip hop songs from the West Coast that we felt represented our style.
    After the Video:
After we released this video, most of the original members disbanded and moved on to other things. The group started to venture into more than just repping in cyphers. We started to travel and have performances which deviated from the original focus of the group. Mikey Disko, Kwaze, Ron, & Stevie maintained the group until there were new members in 2000 Cricket, Jardy, Rhenjay. Ron came back for a short stint in 2002. (Soul Sector 2001 demo will be posted soon)
    Soul Sector Now:
Soul Sector is now an all styles group that includes, popping, locking, bboying, house, & hip hop. The remaining Soul Sector members, Mikey Disko, Paulie Rhythms, and Boy Wonder are now part of NYC's MOP TOP family. Mikey Disko has reunited with his original 1991 crew KNUCKLE NECK TRIBE (West Coast Rock Steady) to preserve and spread the Bay Area's 1990's hip hop history. Paulie Rhythms and Boy Wonder are now part of Knuckle Neck Tribe & Soul Sector. The philosophy of real raw street dance remains the same. Mikey Disko still talks to most of the original members and they are doing great and have moved on in life.
Current Members: Mikey Disko, Boy Wonde, Paulie Rhythms (as Knuckle Neck), Bidu, Tevez

this type of dancing was an obsession for me in the early to late 90's. NYC, L.I...worked well with deep house. I cringe at some of it. The knees. I could almost puke. Na mean?
