7:50 I agree with this sentiment. When you put in so much time and effort, to just throw your images on a platform that people look at for two seconds...I don't know. Just seems like you're wasting the "potential" of the images. I think at this point a lot of people would rather have ten people look at their work intentionally on a website compared to a thousand mindless scrollers on Instagram. IG is still useful, just not in that way anymore. For me at least.
This is it right here
What’s the difference between directing people to your IG who will intently look vs your website who will intently look?
@@Mononoken I don’t think there is a huge difference aside from the quality of images. If someone wants to look at my work, I’m directing them to my website because the images look better.
I’m just talking about the average user. The average person is not sitting on images for too long while browsing IG. That’s why I implied ten people looking intently versus a thousand that just flick past in an instant. There will always be crossover though and some people will sit on images and actually look while on Instagram.
@@Mononoken I also think people go to a website with a different intention. On IG it's like people stumble upon your picture almost randomly, while on a website people intentionally want to check out your work. The IG feed usually is full of visual noise. And the habit of scrolling mindlessly (which Instagram, TikTok and Facebook are profiting of and kinda built upon) is playing a huge role in how people are consuming photos, I think. It also kinda sucks to have your photos show up in a feed between dancing teenagers and memes. Yet again, it's the most simple way to showcase work. Tough topic for sure.
👀
I think it’s super fun to see this style of video. It’s a really free and relaxed feeling to watch.
I would say that a video like this makes it feel like actually hanging out with you rather than watching a video in a more "formal way". It's more honest and relaxed and I think that fits your personality the best.
I love this format! It’s really inspiring to see the different adventures you have, the various processes you try, and simply seeing the photos you take :)
Happy to hear it! Thank you
I like this format, Willem. Feels very genuine!
Hey, this style of the video perfectly fit the messages. I like the mix of topics and breadth covered. What I really enjoy is how you so often photograph places on both coasts where I have lived or spent long periods of time myself. Your beautiful photos always bring back cheerful memories. Cheers! ✌️
Thanks very much Bob!
Honey wake up Willem posted
wow the first day of the month, Willy with the holeshot 😮💨
😂
The not-to-serious, relaxed feeling of these videos are great. I really enjoy it.
the music choice complements your video and photo style so well! Such a pleasure to watch your work.
These photos and the way you explain things..🧡 it's so calming.. keep it up 💛
A monthly vlog series would be great. Seeing the contact sheets as you make them is actually fun to see. You're sharing your first reactions too. Share another next month!
The word "Honeysuckle" is so funny to me idk why.
Gosh those east coast pictures are just so telling of the environment, you've captured the spirit of the place effortlessly.
Love the 'chaotic' vlog format. It's nice to see what an artist is up to, even the little things like switching chemistry and your thoughts about your own projects. Can't wait for more!
And now I will have a good day thanks dude 🙏
Nice video. East Coast photos
over west coast. You should do a darkroom video.
These vlogs are just perfect Wilem, we enjoy them as much as regular videos!
I’m enjoying this format. It’s a relaxed, more personal flavor. But also like the more “produced”/themed videos. A mix is nice. Great stuff!
What a great adventurous, yet very informational vlog. Love these, and miss your content Willem!
Format is fantastic. Look forward to seeing what is next. I've been watching for years and you continuously evolve and never disappoint.
it was great to see the regular photo content + the vlog to see more of the behind the scenes of the film process. Loved this man!
I’m totally onboard with the longer vlog style. Moving from one topic to another gives a segmented feel, each with content to pique interest, and ultimately offers so much more than a shorter home-run video. Thanks, and looking forward to the next!
The video was great, man! Love the vlog format. Makes it more personal in my opinion. Also loved the shots man. Always amped to see how you see different scenes and what you come up with.
yo finally more vlogs, god has answered my prayer, lmaoo looked forward to this willem good job
I love the vlog format! Please continue this!
It is fun, especially because its more content of you!
Great to see ur personal work also. Thanks a lot again Willem and keep up the good work.
It's great to see these kind of vlogs! Really like videos that show every step of the process, pre and post production, without it feeling like a tutorial
My favorite shot is the pizza slice! Absolutely stunning
Agreed
What camera and film stock you’ve made it with?
every time I watch one of your videos I get inspired to go shoot. love the format, keep it coming!
I absolutely loved the format of this video Willem! The space you left just for images and music through the Upstate NY segment was amazing - it really felt like it captured the mood well.
And i totally agree about Instagram.
This is sweet!! Format is great, relaxed and still engaging. Big love from Aus.
i love this casual video style along with your more structured ones! love your content !
This laid back form, I like it!
love, such great photos and glad you are putting the work on your website!
It’s so satisfying and relaxing to look at the bookshelf with the books sorted by color 🤤❤️
This is great! Your adaptation of living space to darkroom space is inspiring. The pictures of upstate NY resonated with me, as I spent a lot of time there and the color pallet is very different from SoCal. Go with your gut - your intuition is fabulous.
You look like you had fun putting this video together. I love that for you. I can imagine it’s not always that easy to pick up the camera and feed our need to get input from you. Lots of love and inspiration your way. Loving the pictures with the camomile in focus out of focus. Loving that style.
I really liked this format! It’s really relaxing and easy to look at.
I enjoy the random moments in a single video. Great stuff!
Perfect format of a video blog. Awesome work you do in film
photography
Really loving this style of video, so cool to hear you talk more about your process (both creative and technical) and it's reassuring to see that someone like you, with a lot of audience also struggle with the life of a picture once it's done. I really relate to this reflexion about picture that are not perfect when looked alone but have a mood when looked together, without them to be actually thought as diptic/triptic/etc before hand
Thank you for that
love the format! feels so personal and i love seeing your process with developing and selecting prints :)
I absolutely love this format Willem. Keep 'em coming man. My favorite scene was the one where you showed the rangefinder patch since it kind of showed me that beautiful scene through the rangefinder patch. It's kind of like looking at the photo through a WLFV lol.
these are some really excellent photos. very well put together everytime
Yeah, nice to see a good volume of shots. I watch vids like this to get inspired and ideas for my own work. Thanks.
Loving your vlogs. Loving your 'proper' videos. Love it all! Thanks.
love the vlog format!
I dig the longer video contrasting both coasts. Truly enjoy watching as I edit pictures, best of both worlds!
love this format!
vlogs like these bring your channel to life bruh, it kinda balances with the usual recap/review videos which makes it more interesting.
Met you at Joe Greer’s book signing. Your at home development video is what got me into building up my own setup. Love the content man!! LA film gang!!
Great meeting you :)
That was a fun vid. Love seeing the sheets
Thank you so much! I loved this vlog! I
Watched the entire thing and I really enjoyed seeing the darkroom process. I find it so relaxing and euphoric in a sense developing in a dark room so thank you 🙏🏽
I love this style of videos man, keep them coming!
I really liked watching this style of vlog! I love when you take us through specific trips too but doing a mix of things could be nice :) it was especially cool watching your process in the dark room too!
Love this format! Really enjoyed this video!
Really good format mate. Great to see your process and hear your thoughts in a relaxed way. A pleasure to watch with my breakfast 😊👍🏻
I think this is my favorite format to watch when it comes to CZcams videos!
Love the vlog format. Really enjoy the longer videos. Btw, love the warm west coast colors but it’s east coast all day! 💪🏾
Love seeing the whole process!
Willem these are some of the best pictures I have ever seen featured on your channel or even CZcams as a platform for that sake. Amazing work wow
Good stuff, as usual.
i really enjoyed the next vlog. I wish you all the best for the future and i hope you can make an easy full time career as a creator. We need you. Best wishes from Switzerland.
Roman
You got me thinking of new places to go shoot in LA, great to see it fresh from someone else's eyes.
Love a vlog style part. ❤️
A new Willem video is always a great video. Keep killing it man.
really love this style of video, willem!!
I really enjoy your dark room / developing / printing segments. I’d love to see more of them in the future
Keep it up. Always fun to see the process
Enjoying the vlogs and I think the website is the right choice, thanks for sharing your work that way!
i love this kind of videos. it feels like im traveling with you, i love it.
I love this format, super entertaining
The feeling that the photograph at 4:28 evokes is incredible. When I look at it I feel a mix of familiarity and intimacy. I would love to get a print.
Really enjoyed this video, always interesting to see the work behind and at the same time the footage from when the shot where taken.
Beautiful images. As always excellent editing and choice of music
loved the video as always willem! i really enjoyed the format of this video & the photos from the east coast are beautiful :^)
Thanks, Willem. Enjoy your content regardless how you piece it together. Thanks for sharing!
Man, I love your content. You inspire me and I’m happy you post shit for us to look at. The vlog is dope, seems personal like a one on one
vlog format is awesome, keep doing it
Loved the format. It's crazy how you can just go out and see these photos anywhere, meanwhile I'm lucky to find good lighting for 5 minutes
i think this blog format is so nice feels real
I love the format Willem!🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thanks for another great video Willem!
Enjoyed the format! It works as a nice break-up between the videos that still need to be long-form standalone’s.
loved this format!!
Love the format man, keep it upp :)
I love the vlog format so I hope there will be more of it.
Yeh, you certainly have got your own style - so nice, so good to see this in another photographer. I found your commentary about the difference in light and colour between east and west coast to be both insightful and significant.
The vlog was not chaotic at all. Loved this format and would definitely like more
I Love the format
Its great too see different stuff in a video ✌🏼 But do what you feel right about, its always great to watch your videos no matter what you do.
love the format!
Your darkroom process stuff is always the coolest
I really like this format ! Fun and easy to watch, yeah it’s a little unstructured but this makes it really authentic
it's fun! The cheese pull photo is killer
This was great! I loved the vlog!
Loved this video feels like we got to see more bts of the process a bit both with thought process and equipment
Phewww what a relief to hear you compare your website with instagram. It certainly highlights the thing that we should all be asking ourselves, and that is, why am i taking this photograph ? GREAT !
thank you for actually showing the steps for making contact sheet ! beautiful photos as usual thank you
these are some fire flics mr. verbeeck
