After hearing from Debra Messing, I so wish that American Jews had a better Jewish education. A Jew should know more of their history than just he Holocaust. We were all over the world, rich traditions, intellectuals, philosophies, etc. History of the Jewish people also globally, and about the diversity of Jewish communities all over the world, and their beauty. As well as other pogroms, not just of Ashkenasi Jews.
I agree with this so much. As an Ashkenazi Jew, I grew up learning about the Jewish experience in Europe. I learned a little about Sephardi in the Spanish Inquisition and when I visited Argentina. But there are so many cultures of Judaism all over the world that are never spoken about, or taught in history classes, unless you belong to that group and have a personal story to tell. If the histories of Jews in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East outside of Israel were taught more in schools, it would kill the narrative of all Jews being agents of European colonialism within non-Jews and American Jews that don’t belong to a Jewish community.

Must be a rich history of overstaying a welcome.
Most of us do know this history. If our parents raised us right they sent us to the right schools and taught us at home. It is up to our schools and families. If we didn't have that growing up, it's on us to educate ourselves. The Internet is free.

He was talking about people on both sides of the debate on tearing down statues, and he literally said he did not mean the Nazis. I'm not a Trump fan. But a friend of mine challenged me on this, and I checked. Sure enough, the press totally manipulated that.

Why she and others CONTINUE to perpetuate this misquote is beyond me. I am a Christian, a Trump supporter, and abhor and rebuke antisemitism. Being Jewish and experiencing antisemitism at the age of 4 in the former USSR (I am turning 55 just like Debra) my family emigrated to Israel after the Yom Kippur war in 1973. My parents wanted me and my brother to be safe! And here I am in Europe having my children directly experiencing threats to their lives being Jewish. I am not recovering from the shock of seeing how evil crazy and up side down the world we live in is. A world that never came out of the darkness of blind Jew hatred. I feel broken because I have no idea where to start speaking for my folk who have a right for civil rights and for Israel that has every right to exist like any country! Not sure why people hate Jews so much. The only thought that comes to mind is- ENVY! Thank you Debra and shay 🙏

Douglas Murray described what happened very well - it is like a flare went up in the sky on Oct 7th, and everyone could see exactly where everyone stands. A "masks off" moment in history. Unfortunately, it seems that for many celebrities and people in power positions, "activism" is nothing more than virtue signaling. They will never risk themselves for true values.

Im a British Catholic and I’m devastated on behalf of the Jewish community and Israel and pray for the hostages, lost one’s, friends and families. Sadly, the public opinion in the UK is to side with Gaza and Hamas which is shameful. In Britain we’re not taught about the role that British had to play about the control of the land that is now known as (rightfully) Israel and the part it played after WW1 and just after WW2. If we learned this we would know that the Arabs were attacking Jewish people long before the mass immigration after the holocaust.

The first thing I did on October 9, 2023 was to reached out yo an old boss I had , an Orthodox Jew, and told him that I was praying for him and for his family!

As a Canadian patrilineal Jew, I've always only celebrated Hanukkah at home. My mom introduced me to my paternal grandfather's religion when I was around 7 years old because she wanted me to know about my Jewish heritage. My grandfather was never super religious, but he was very culturally Jewish. It didn't seem like a big deal throughout my childhood and throughout my teenage years. It wasn't until my thirties did I realize there was hatred towards Jews in the world. Then, Oct 7th happened and I saw so many of my poetry and open mic friends support Palestine that I felt alone in my support for Israel. I'm the only Jew in my open mic community where I perform comedy once a week and I also wrote a poem/lyrics after Oct 7th because I was astounded that not many people were outraged by the attacks. I feel it's important for me to continue to be a voice for the Jewish people.

@@zeek2436 Thanks! I won't pay mind to those people. My grandfather being Jewish, makes me around 30% or so Ashkenazi according to ancestry results, so part of the tribe. I was surprised when I found out the Ashkenazi was the majority of my dna. Everything else was 20%, 15% and lower.

I will be 60 this year and grew up understanding, having compassion for, and sympathizing with Jews when it came to the Holocaust. Messing was quite happy to harass Trump supporters and the Republican party non stop because it was acceptable with her peers. Given that she is only speaking up now because her ethnic/religious group is being attacked shows how despicable she is. Debra Messing's account of anti-Semitism in her Rhode Island town brought me back to my own experiences with it as a college student in Rhode Island. There is a LOT of anti-Semitism there. As a freshman in a co-ed dorm, I had a neighbor who was a rabid anti-Semite that never lost an opportunity to let me know that I was hated. In the decades after my graduation, I've occasionally had thoughts of tracking that person down for retribution, as they are still in RI, but something in me thinks, "nah, it's not worth it for one miserable person. Better to be an activist to prevent that hater and their fellow cowards from doing further damage in the world."

Honest question. Has Debra Messing ever apologized to conservatives for the way that she publicly trashed them? Years ago she was on Twitter with one of her former costars publicly talking about how they wanted to blacklist Trump supporters in Hollywood. She thought it was fair for people who have opinions that differed from hers to have difficulty working. She didn't want to associate with anyone who would support Trump. Fast forward to the present day and i's pretty much only conservatives who support Israel without reservation.
I don't follow her so I am unaware if she has addressed this. It would be nice of her to show appreciation to a group of people she has been so hostile towards.
I agree completely. It always seemed rather ironic that as a Jewish woman, she would take that attitude towards those who didn't agree with her. I hope this gives her pause and makes her reevaluate her previous words and actions.

Trump's comment "Good people on both sides was NOT in reference to the nazis in Charlorresville. It was a reference to those there on Friday who were against removing the statue. Even Snopes admits this. To state otherwise is just slander against the man.

Made me sad she brought that up and hasn’t educated herself. I have spent so many hours educating myself because all the hate for Jewish people has broke my heart. I wanted to find out how this hate could spread so fast.

What happened against the Jewish people on October 7th was an abomination.
Also any innocent Men, Women and Children whatever race, colour, creed or religion who are murdered butchered.
My horror at what has and what is happening is terrifying.
I was born in 62. Less than 20 years away from World War ll but close enough for it still to be fresh in everyone's memory.
I went out with a Jewish lad many years ago and also knew another lad whose parents were got out but who had lost everyone in the Holocaust. Imagine being an only child with only parents, but no extended family. Auntie 's, Uncle's cousins, grandparents. Coming from a family who has large extended family. My Nan was one of nine and my Grandad one of sixteen. Yes sixteen it's almost impossible to imagine.
Don't get me wrong I find it so hard to see the Palestinian men, women and especially the children being killed, but unless we come to a political solution, like in Northern Ireland which had taken generations there will never be an end.
My fear is the Anti Semitism that is on the rise increasingly, not just here in the U.K.but Europe and from this in America also.
Our soldiers that came across the first concentration camps including the Russians who liberated Aushcwitz never forget the horror's they saw.
We had and actor called Dirk Bogart in the U.K. who was at the liberation of Bergen Belsen, he never forgot or forgave the Germans for the horror's he saw. Now not forgiving may or may not be right, but it is understandable.
We are a few generations on now from that horrific time and ignorance and lack of education and hatred, has Anti- semitism on the rise again.
What is astounding is the so called actors who've made their money off the back of their faith, not standing up for the victims of October 7th but happy to make the money off it. Also if they think it will save them from the hated of anti-semitism is unfortunately naive in the extreme.
I find both Debra Messing and the interviewer, standing up for what they believe in admirable. Good luck to you both.

As an observant Jew, this interview is a perfect example of why Jews in the U.S., especially prominent Jews have reacted so weakly after October 7th.
Shai doesn't want to be "toxic".
Debra wants to care for everybody else.
Now, Shai has had to find some male 'toxicity' since October 7th. Too bad he wasn't in tune with his 'toxicity' before.
Now, Debra finds that "they" hate us. But she sees that it isn't (despite what she says here) just the 'racists'who are against her people. It's also all those that she championed before! Gays, Blacks etc...EVERYBODY she says!
Maybe caring about everybody else isn't such a great idea? Maybe championing lifestyles that are against our own peoples laws isn't a good idea either?
But no, these 2 haven't come to that conclusion yet. Because believing in 'progressive' ideology was how they 'practiced' Judaism. And that Is a hard thing to stop.

This was an amazing interview! Keep up the good work. Expose those in Hollywood who don't stand with Israel. The best way to defend Judaism is to know the history, I've been studying for years. A good resource for learning more about our people is Prof. Henry Abramson. I've been watching his videos on CZcams for the last few years and have learned so much.
