- Review of the Audient EVO 8 4in/4out audio interface with Smartgain and Loopback.
#Evo8
In this video we'll go over the features of the Audient EVO 8 audio interface.
This interface has 4 inputs, 4 outputs, an on-screen Mixer, and Loopback.
The Evo 8 is a USB-C interface, but you can use a USB-A to USB-C cable.
The Evo 8 of course provides 48v phantom power, and you can turn it on PER input.
The mic pre-amps are really good, which is not often the case with bus powered interfaces.
There are two headphone outputs.
And Smartgain will set your input gain levels for you.
We'll go over more of these features in context in other videos.

Really clear and complete. Well played.
Thanks. Best overview I’ve seen.
We got more Evo 8 videos if you want to dig in even deeper. They are listed in the description. Thanks for the view 👍
You need to specific USB-C port on your computer. This must be USB-C port witch allows for delivery 13Watts (2,6 Amper), specificly thunderbolt.
But... if you don't have such a port, you can use a USB hub with an external power supply that can reach up to 65W
For two sources, the standard 850 mA (4.25 W) from the third-generation USB-A port is sufficient
Probably Great upgrade I am using scarlet 1 definitely looking into getting this
" GOOD JOB ! "
Great vid! Quick question, would you consider this good for recording pro vocals for an album, or just a cheap way to go? Does it compare well with UA Arrow, Twin, etc? I'm looking for a great sounding interface just for vox and I just don't want good enough. Hoping this has a really surprising pro quality to it ;)
Sure, no problem getting pro quality from this. The pre-amps are good and clean. The pres on the UA interfaces are probably 'better', but you're talking about a $300 - $600 difference as well.
Thanks, @BenoniStudio! I don't mind spending a little more for quality sound - I was hoping this was on par...
In your honest opinion - how's the latency? I can't stand any audible latency when using comp/reverb/etc as comfort FX when tracking vox (but recording dry).
well done video. Clear and to the point n
Does it work with iOS? Specifically when powered over the camera connection dongle. If so, how well? You mentioned the 2x48v power limitation with usb A. Any other limitations?
The Evo 8 does not mention being iOS compatible. I don't use any iOS devices, so I can't test just to see. But, the Evo 4 is iOS compatible.
I just ordered one of these (don’t have it yet) and I only work with an iPad Pro which is USB C, so that’s good. I’m sure we will be able to connect and use the evo 8, but at this point I don’t see an iPad app for the mixer software. I don’t think this is a deal breaker, and I’m hopeful that in the future there will be an accompanying iOS app. The key for me is the 4 xlr combo inputs and overall quality at this price.
@@brushman20 How did you go with your evo 8 and your ipad? im looking at using this with loopy pro and my ipad.
Im hoping the 4 outputs appear as 4 separate mono outputs on loopy pro and i can have busses setup to route anything to those outputs.
I've got this working with my old komplete 6 but wanna upgrde to the evo 8
@@mikaelwills I haven’t been doing much with recording the last year or more, but I do find the Evo 8 very good. I had a condenser and 3 other mic’s recording drums at the same time and it worked well. I haven’t used loopy pro so I can’t comment on that. Anything I did with the Evo worked well tho. Just keep your iPad charged.
Can u monitor between your headphones amd your speaker like the ID versions
If you wanted to use both headphones and speakers at the same time, I would connect the speakers to OUTPUT 1/2 and headphones to the second output. When you plugin headphones, they will automatically mute the pair of outputs associated with it.
HEADPHONE output 1: auto mutes OUTPUTS 1/2
HEADPHONE output 2: auto mutes OUTPUTS 3/4
Its an absolue shame that Audient didnt include the Mix/Pan Button on EVO 8, as well, the standalone mode....
It´s almost a downgrade from EVO 4 in this regard.
Maybe possible with firmware update?
Or wait for the Evo 8 Mk2?
Is this interface compatible to macOS Big Sur?
Hey does beyerdynamic dt 770 pro with 250ohms works with it?
Don't have those, so can't say. The headphone output is pretty good, but not as powerful as interfaces that you plug in to a wall. If you don't have enough volume, you can get some extra Dbs in the mixer.
Can i use usb-c to evo 8 then usb-3.0 connected to CPU computer because my CPU has usb 3.0
Thank U in advance
You can use a USB-C to USB-A cable if that is what you mean.
You can plug into a USB3 port on the computer.
can this audio interface be used on fl20?
Sure.
Looking at this review because I've just seen an ad for this. I can't help but feel it's cheap
It's inexpensive and a great portable interface with a lot of features for it's price range. If you want something to use with iOS/iPadOS look at the Evo 4.
@@BenoniStudio Do you still own this? if so how are you still liking it?
