  • A clip of the late Sinatra impersonator Nick Edenetti's infamous "All Nite Show" from Summer 1987, which was broadcast live in the studio in the middle of the night on KSCI Channel 18 in Los Angeles. This particular VHS tape didn't age too well after 24 years, hence the lousy video quality.
Guests here are the late great accordion player Dick Contino, the late Scotty Plummer (legendary banjo player) along with Nick's sidekick, the late James Bacon, and pianist Nick Fryman and his trio.
Nick Edenetti was one interesting Hollywood character in a Hollywood that no longer exists.

Great clip. Nick was my uncle and I actually worked for him in the clubs back in 94. Good times. We had no money but we did have some fun.

I knew Nick Eden (Edenetti). I forgot to mention that in my previous post. I would love to hear from his son Eric. What a sweet kid. A man he would be now.

I knew very well back in the 70's and 80's. I also worked with him. He was a great friend and a very kind soul. We had many good times together. I also know Dick Contino. Both of these fine men use to play on Ventura Blvd back in the day. We all knew each other. Dick Contino is a gentleman and yes, a romantic. I remember when he would visit me at work and everybody recognized him and whispered that's Dick Contino. He would bring or send me flowers. I am glad to see he is married now.

Thanks Debbie. I didn't realize that Nick was around so far back; I had never heard of him before catching this show totally by chance in the middle of the night in 1987. It didn't take long for me to realize that what I was watching was happening live on the air, and that really blew my mind, it was something you didn't normally see. I had two VHS tapes of his shows that I recorded that were lost not long after I taped them. After 1988, I didn't hear more about him....then in around 1996 he turned up on the "Ellen" TV show singing "Chicago" for about 5 seconds! LOL And that was it. I didn't even know that he died in 1998 till 6 or 7 years later.

Debbie ... This was in '87. Dick lost his wife to cancer in '82. He was single for years before he became involved in another long term relationship. Also, in case you don't know ... Dick passed at age 87 in April 2017. He was like a father to me ... I miss him.

@@SmilinJackAccordion I only learned of Dick Contino's passing in the summer of 2018, having just seen your comment now. I remember seeing his website around the time that I posted this video back in 2011, and I regret not dropping him a line and letting him know about the video. I recently found an LP he made in the 1950s or early 1960s in a used record shop and really like it. He had a unique one of a kind style.

Thanks for the comment. I met your uncle maybe four months after this taping, around November-December 1987 at the Las Palmas Theater in Hollywood. He was performing his "Sinatra The Musical" show at the time. it was a cool tribute. I lost track of him in the 90s, but I'm glad to know that he was still at it for many years. Cheers.

Yeah, I remember when Sly Stone showed up unannounced! I was watching it happen live on TV! So trippy man, it all happening live at 3AM! Only in 1987!

I WAS THERE THAT NIGHT! For real! I was a massive fan, and I called up Nick's office and asked for "tickets." They were baffled, since the show had no studio audience. But they found us four folding chairs -- and my group showed up around 2am. At the little Korean TV station on Cotner. Hank Ballard was the scheduled guest. And then... the side doors open, and Sly just randomly wanders in, in a fur coat. Nick was floored. It was a total ambush. We were blown away... it was totally crazy!

@@kermitdubois Wow! You know, I almost did the same thing, though not on that night. But when I called the TV station, they said there was no audience, and pretty much discouraged me from going. I should have went anyway! As far as the night Sly Stone showed up, I was wide awake at home watching the show when it all went down. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, I mean, this was LIVE on TV at 3AM! Really trippy.

I remember taping and then later watching the Nick Edenetti show which ran on LA television. If I recall the show ran from 1 AM to 5 AM on Sunday morning. It showed the same commercials over and over. Some guests like Steve Allen would drop in. The highlight was the roundtable where several veteran stand-up comics sat on stools and tried to top each other. The LA Times television critic gave the show a good review but the show disappeared right after the review. I wish I had saved those video tapes.

Quite a few folks stopped by his show from what I recall....Henny Youngman, Alan Hale, of course the infamous appearance of Sly Stone, among others. This show was an anomaly...it just kind of happened in a certain time and place. But it was great while it lasted.

+My Old VHS TapesVinylCassettes Was that show of Sly Stone of the 1987 Las Palmas ''fiasco'' aired live? You are mentioning something about it below.........do you have a copy of it?

+Can Arslan No, it wasn't, unfortunately. Maybe a month before the Sly Stone concert at the Las Palmas, Sly Stone made a surprise appearance on Nick Edenetti's All Nite Show, live on the air in the middle of the night. It was wild. I recorded that, but the tape was lost long ago I believe that Nick Edenetti basically rented out the Las Palmas Theater for a few months at the end of 1987 to perform his "Sinatra The Musical" tribute. It was during that time that he put together the Sly Stone concert, which as you know, was a disaster because the Feds invaded the place looking for Sly, and Sly was forced to leave, leaving the fans waiting and band on stage. I wasn't there, but a friend of mine was. Wild times !

+Can Arslan I would like to think in some attic here in L.A. there's a box of VHS tapes of this show that someone recorded and forgot about. Perhaps the TV studio has some master copies stored away. Those tapes would be almost 30 years old now, if they exist at all...Peace!
