Hi I am torn between the pl990x and pl880... if I'm not bothered about the Bluetooth, sd card for audio and the speaker( as I believe the audio on both are not that dissimilar) would you tell me to go for the pl880? I do like the look of the 880 but can afford the pl990x. Any advice would be appreciated thanks

I would like to enjoy SWL as much as amateur radio, but my Tecsun 880, anywhere indoors, is receiving a lot of noise, and it doesn't help that there's an electrical utility line just yards away. It doesn't matter how I run my random wire antenna. Please advise, as specifically as possible, a possible solution (or two). Many thanks! N4ANO
I am not the video author but if you buy an inexpensive MLA 30 loop antenna from Amazon or Ebay you will get noticeably better performance. You can also twist or rotate the loop to null out the worse noise
MW is poor indoors but outdoors is pretty good. It’s a shame they didn’t put an aerial jack on it for MW. The pl990x has a switch to turn aerial inputs from internal to external allowing for MW also.

@@coctailer I bought a new PL-660 from the XHDATA official store on the Lazada e-commerce platform. It comes with the firmware 6622, and I was informed by the seller is the latest version for 2021. An authorized reseller for Tecsun Poland also mentions that the latest PL-660 units now have the same MW and SW performance as the more expensive PL-680, so you don't gain any advantage over the PL-660 other than the larger frequency keypad, buttons and the traditional flat look of the PL-680. My seller told me that there's no point in getting the PL-680 since I already bought the PL-660 and advised to choose some other Tecsun model like the PL-990 or the super compact PL-330. I'm not sure why Tecsun is selling both the PL-660 alongside the PL-680 at different prices. Personally I prefer the stylish curved profile of the PL-660 as all the other Tecsun portables have the same rectangular look. 📻😀👍🏼
You never managed to tune in an SSB signal for a reasonable comparison. Why did you remain on the cw station sending the letter F?

The 880 AGC has a pumping sound I didn’t like. I hope the 990x doesn’t have that.

Actually it sounds terrible, why would I pay $150+ and $250+ to listen to static?
