    Is it possible to monitor MS mic setup as stereo and record raw MS to individual tracks?

    • @felipeeufrazio1044
      @felipeeufrazio1044 Před 2 lety

      In Advanced Mode, the MixPre-6 is configured as a eight-channel recorder with
      user-selectable 44.1, 48, 96 and 192 kHz sample rate and 16 and 24bit depth.
      The LR mix tracks may be recorded as well as each of the six channels as
      individual isolated (ISO) tracks. Audio for the ISO tracks is recorded “prefade”
      meaning before the channel knob gain, so any changes that are made there
      will only affect the LR mix and have no affect on the recorded ISO track levels.
      This is particularly useful for post-production audio processing where it may be
      desirable to create an alternate mix of the tracks at a later stage.

    One question though. Say you're on set recording audio for a movie. Is
    it possible to enter scene/shot/take numbers as iXML metadata as you go
    so that it is readable directly upon import by Final Cut Pro X ?

    Hi Chris! Why is there 3 Tracks(L,R and Ch1) when I record a boom on Ch1? What is the meaning of L, R additionally with Ch1? My setup is just one MKH416 connected to CH1 on MixPre3 and I am trying to record talking head.. Is there any additional benefit in quality of audio output or editing workflow if I use all 3 (L,R and Ch1) in final Video? Is it OK to record on Ch1 without the L and R? Should I just get rid of L and R? Is L and R really required for single Mic setup? What is the purpose of L and R?

    Thanks for the videos. Any idea if I can opt not to send an audio channel to the stereo mix, but still record that channel in ISO? I would like to use this for recording our sports announcers on Channels 1 and 2 and send those only to the headphones and the audio out port for backup recording on the camera. I would use the third (or 4th) channel to record the stadium announcer so that later I can mix that track in when needed in editing. My announcers don't like the stadium feed in their headphones and I would also prefer it is not on my backup recording in the camera. The videos on the MixPre series I have watched today don't address this issue. If anyone knows, please reply. Thanks!

  • @kipling1957

    The video discusses stereo ( 2Ch.) recording scenarios. Just a technical question: What kind of output wav file do you get if say you wanted to record more than 2 inputs? Like for instance all 4 mic inputs on the MixPre 6 as individual channels (or ISOs, to use the misnomer)? Is there such a thing as a 4 ch. wav file, or do you end up with 4 mono wav files? Thanks.

    • @kipling1957
      @kipling1957 Před 7 lety

      The answer to my own question: You get a poly (multitrack) wav file. This can be split into mono tracks using free SW from SD. This may be needed if you are a FCPX user which only has a limited capability handling this type of file.

  • @kipling1957
    @kipling1957 Před 7 lety +1

    Apparently, those physical pot trims do not record to ISO tracks, which makes them redundant if you are only interested ISOs, not the L/R mix. You have to go into the touch screen submenu to set each gain and that's the level recorded, not the sum of the trim and the gain. Apparently, you can use the custom menu to set the trim knobs to adjust the entire gain sweep - but that is a HUGE range. Why can't they just sum the two gains stages in advanced mode to record ISOs (or have that option)? That is what most recordists would want. All this is a hassle and a deal-breaker for me.

    • @jarritwaters9724
      @jarritwaters9724 Před rokem

      Yeah essentially the knobs are same as post fader. Like the faders on a mixing desk, to set the the actual gain you have to use the touchscreen, it is a bit of a pain in the ass! The preamp quality is very good tho. And it's a bit tricky to set up with a computer. So if you want to use it as an interface It would be better to use good quality interface at a similar price point. But if you want it for standalone on the road use, then the quality of the pres are very good. Albeit the small headphone jack, small line out, and no line-ins. Can work around it but is not ideal. I mainly got it for high quality recording on the road.

      I posed this on their website and waiting for a response... its quite a bit of a problem for me since I want to be able to use a shotgun mic and a stereo pair at the same time and be able to control their levels post mix... seems like ch 1-4 is all mixed down to 2 channels. So essentially my recordings were trash pretty much with a bland stereo image when a stereo lab pair and a shotgun. Dragged it into reaper and it showed 2 channels only... I saw and heard channel 3 in the headphones and on the monitor... so did this just get mixed down into 1 file????
