      This year had been bad to companies; Disney is just the most high-profile, evident by the fact Disney will finish the year either number 1 or 2 in the boxoffice. But I do agree with you 100%, direct-to-streaming is the equivalent of straight-to-DVD ....it cheapens the brand in our minds.

      ??? we're a bit unfair to Disney cause it's Disney, but there's a chance they end the year on top, this is how badly everyone is doing. I mean just look at Universal for example: Just this summer they had so many flops: FastX, Teenage Kraken, Book club, Society People, Strays, Asteroid City, Renfield, Voyage of the Demeter. That extends after the summer as well with really bad films: FNAF and Exorcist are the two worst-rated films all year. I'm sure I'm leaving out so many bad films cause Universal is prolific. They're saved by two big hits and a few moderate ones, but they don't easily stride ahead of Disney when they're supposed to be at their worst.
      Same thing with Sony, Lionsgate, Paramount and Warner..... terrible year.
      Like Universal, Disney had some wins: Guardians, Little Mermaid and Elemental; all received A's from audiences and did well; all three started weaker than expected but legged out well.

      No! I don’t know what you and a lot of people are smoking, Magnifico was a terrible villain! They set up a potential tragic backstory for this guy, but then they were like fuck! People don’t like villains with depth, we have to make him petty for the sake of being petty. And by the third act is motivation is lost and unclear. If you give us a petty villain, you have to go all the way with it. If you give us a in-depth villain, you have to go all the way with it. Yes we want villains again, but we want GOOD villains. Not half assed villains.

    'Wish' has faced its share of criticism, but I find it to be an enjoyable movie that has been unfairly judged before its release. The blend of 2D and 3D animation seemed jarring on the internet but worked in the theatre, offering a visually captivating experience that sets it apart from traditional animation styles. Additionally, the vibrant soundtrack greatly contributes to its appeal. I hated the music for both "Frozen" and "Encanto" so it's a breath of fresh air to me. The melodies were more appealing and I missed the straight up traditional villain songs. The choice to make it a 'happy' villain song one was surprising to me.
    It's unfortunate that some people were quick to criticize 'Wish' even before it hit the screens and people seem to be running with that now that the movie has been released. Preconceived notions often overshadow a film's merits, but I believe that every movie deserves a fair chance to be experienced and appreciated. Despite initial skepticism, I loved it. Along with "Elemental" both Disney and Pixar have surprised me this year.

    Can someone tell me whether or not the premise of this movie even makes sense? It’s about wanting to have wishes granted by giving them away? Also, once you give them away, you can’t remember what they were? How does that make sense? How would you know that your wish was granted if you can’t remember what it was? Are the things that the characters are wishing for achievable through hard work or are they fantastical, like the ability to breathe under water? If the wishes are achievable, why do they need to give them away? Are the characters just lazy? Also, doesn’t the main character wish upon a star? Why couldn’t everyone else do that too? In the end, the main character becomes a fairy godmother. Isn’t that kind of the same thing as the evil king? Does she now grant wishes? Why can’t the characters just work for what they want?

    The story had a cool premise with the wishes; however, they dropped the ball. It felt like a template movie that had too many callbacks to Disney's earlier works. If they focused more on telling a fully developed story and less on how many easter eggs they can shove in, they could've made a compelling movie. In the end, it just feels like it should've been short.

    If this movie is an hommage to classics, it fails! None of the side characters are memorable, the animal sidekick is not funny, none of the songs are good except '' I make this wish! '' ; the villain's motivation changes for no reason, the climax was lame and rushed (Defeating a wizard with a song is not impressive or cool) The animation is ok but it's not enough to make the movie good.

  • @Nightlightknight
    @Nightlightknight Před 6 měsíci

    It’s not a bad film, but nothing about it is memorable. There is no Let it Go, Valentino doesn’t have many good jokes, if any. The message itself is like an updated, ‘coolified’ checklist of princess film must haves. The ensemble cast, while certainly talented, fails to give life to any of the supporting characters, and the turn is utterly unearned and completely against what we are shown of the character’s personality. All in all, not bad, but not good either.

    I disagree completely about your assessment of king Magnifico’s transition. I think he is a human man that has worked his whole life to create a safe community for all people. But fear and ego take hold as he’s challenged. He even says he never wanted to go to dark magic (which had already entranced him)!
    Asha isn’t even 18 and she walks into a job interview like she knows more than a man who’s devoted his life to his people and tells him he’s doing it wrong, with out the slightest effort to see where he’s coming from! In all fairness King Magnifico is a handsome man who is tested beyond others because his good looks cause doubts on his ability! But it all comes down to red pill/blue pill. And throughout his travels and his search of knowledge, he’s found what works for him and the kingdom he’s created. No one is in shackles, no one is forced to stay, and no one is even forced to give their most sacred wish! And in the Beginning all the towns people seem fine with it.
    And btw, He is the King! If everyone felt so unhappy and so cheated, why didn’t they bring it up with him in a civilized manner before? He obviously was not a tyrant. And as he implied in his song, He’s the king. So no he can’t go out Personally and reclothe and rebuild a house but he CAN coordinate a team to help the process! The President does’t clean up the ashes of Maui, but he Can send out the right people with the right expertise to help!
    Magic is never an everyday, dust off your clothes , wipe your mouth solution. It’s too powerful for that! King Magnifico respects his HARD EARNED magic and rules accordingly.
    I personally was shocked by Asha’s behavior. Acting like her personally motivated, immediately thought up solution without any background information or experience was the one true way to go and Kingdom be D*mn$d, she was gonna get her way! I know as a kid it is wonderful to think you have the answers that adults just don’t have and if they followed your ideas all the world’s problems could be quickly solved. And sometimes that’s tue to some extent. But the reality is Asha needed to be reined in, maybe receive a little more education. She was at the the precipice of the kings library and willingness to teach!
    Unfortunately Disney had to take it another direction. Somehow “wokeness” or being “ PC” got in the way. A young girl of color couldn’t possibly learn anything from a blue eyed, strait white male. She, in her naïveté, hubris, inexperienced, uneducated mind had all the answers!
    There was nothing simple or rehashed about this storyline. And if ignorant influencers would have stayed out of the way, I think it could have been even better. But mostly I think people need to take a breath (sorry I know that saying’s cliché) and go have fun for a couple of hours and see the movie! You can see with your own eyes the beauty of the animation and hear the lyrical songs from the previews! If that’s not enough to get you to go and spend a couple hours with friends and family, maybe the movie industry is gone for good!
