I understand Game from Compton too and was there onstage when Dot was crowned new king of the west & they’ve done songs together but Game been riding with the opps for awhile now. He & wack100 aren’t as tied in with Dot as some seem to think
How did Mr. Morale go left? It won RAP album of the year at the Grammy’s, an American Music Award, BET, etc. album went platinum plus reached over a billion streams highest in the release year, received strong reviews across notable media outlets, had four charting singles. Yeah that’s left I suppose…given today’s climate.
Separately there’s something about Elliot Wilson that I don’t quite rock with. Can’t put my finger on it but he’s among a growing list of people “reppin’ the culture” whose critique of art I don’t value.

As an LA native I’d say Kendrick had that mantle simultaneously as Nipsey … especially outside LA. We in LA knew Nipsey during oldies like “bullets ain’t have no names” or if you really from Crenshaw or the Eastside you knew about “Slauson Boy” but you know KDot goes as far back as Hub City Threat back in ‘03. But to the rest outside the west Kendrick came first , then Nipsey rise outside the west came like a typhoon. They carried the mantle together

That’s to be expected vs a stand alone show almost just because (obviously the reason being all the Drake beef and the attention). The energy and aura around it all just make it more him being “outside” either way it’s a great time to be a Kendrick fan (not like there’s ever a bad time lol)

It was extremely raw and people weren't comfortable with it. I thought it was out there but I enjoyed it. I actually bought the physical cd.
Definitely too deep for some. I don’t like to judge a whole generation. But unfortunately it seems a lot of this generation doesn’t want music to make them think. I’ve seen some artists touch on trauma or personal struggles (Hopsin comes to mind). But no one ever did it at the level Dot did on Mr Morale.
Not even close to being the 1st therapy rap album but a solid album nevertheless. And before folks even ask me to name another therapy rap album simply google Pharoahe Monch's PTSD.
