The only thing that I consider an essential beyond some clothes and my cloth diapers, is my sound machine, it really helps since we have a fairly busy household and a home business
Let me just say that more people need to have this kind of mindset when it comes too all areas of life, but especially for baby gear! We just don't need so much stuff! Love this!!!

Congratulations! I would suggest you make a list of what you think you want/need, and another of things of possibilities. Where to get them in your area. Wait till you have your baby and if you decide that you need something from the possible list it’s an easy pick up for you or anyone else. Best of Luck.
car seats expire because the styrofoam in the inside can begin to degrade after a certain amount of years, which can lower the safety and reliability of the carseat. most people dont know that and it blows my mind!
YES This happened to ours. I went to get it in the garage and clean it up before our 3rd baby and the styrofoam crumbled out like feta cheese everywhere when I picked it up!

In regards to the wraps/slings ...Humans are "carry" mammals, not "caching" mammals. This means our young need to have close contact to meet their emotional and developmental needs. Unfortunately, our society generally doesn't recognize this and we try to cache our babies, ie, we put them in swings, bassinets, seats, etc. Our babies NEED to be close with us!!!!!
And when you embrace it, life with a newborn is SOOO much easier!

Jennifer Boyle unfortunately the USA offers no govt supplemented maternity leave. We are only guaranteed that our job will be held for 12 weeks (no pay) . Anything else is up to the company
My “babies” are probably older than you and it makes me so happy to hear and see your choices for raising your children. I made similar choices when my boys were little and received so much criticism from friends, family, and even some medical professionals. My husband and I were very comfortable with our choices and have never regretted those choices. Your focus is clearly on what is truly important in life. Good for you!
Baby wearing is an actual life saver!! I have a newborn and a 22 month old, I don't know what'd I'd do without it! A wrap or carrier is my number one essential
Yes insurance will deny your claims if the car seat is expired. Car seats expire usually around 5-7 years because the plastic breaks down overtime in the extreme temperatures of the car! Always good to make sure yours is still safe to use. You also want to replace it after an accident and car insurance should cover that replacement!
😍 would LOVE to see how you pack your diaper bag with cloth diapers and other diaper bag essentials, and how you successfully cloth on the go. I use GMD prefolds and flip covers, my favorite wet bag is Grovia on the go. The shape is great, it’s affordable, and not bulky.

My oldest son's godmother bought me a swing as a baptismal gift. What a blessing it was. It wasn't the fancy ones like they have today (he's 48 years old!), just a wind up with a music box, but it was a lifesaver for a new mother. In my day, babies were baptised at one month (we're Catholic) so I got this early. Honestly, I had a swing as an essential for each baby after that.
Target runs a program if your turn in your old car seat they’ll give you a discount on a new one. And they recycle them for you

I'm such a firm believer in baby wearing and co sleeping. I can relate to you so much. Babies do not need much more than love and security. However, my friend handed me down a swing when I had my son, really did not think I would appreciate that thing as much as I did! The things I could get done while he was swinging, lol. Never thought it would be useful when I had my girls. Loved this video, and why am I secretly hoping you'll have a girl?! ❤

I’ve heard someone describe a swing as a stand in for an aunt/uncle/grandma/grandpa that used to be around all the time when people lived communally.
I have two under two - my husband did a TON of research on strollers. We originally had the pocket stroller for when we just had one child, and LOVED it because it was lightweight and minimalistic. So he wanted to find a double stroller like that. We landed on this brand and I really love it so far. It's very light, and folds super small for being a double stroller, the front stroller disconnects from the back. The shade cover goes really far down and provides alot of protection (4 panel cover) . Also has UV protection, rain and snow protection, you can take it apart and it turns into one stroller. (you can also get a side by side stroller if you don't want one in front) but it comes with a lot of neat specs, like a parent and child cupholder, a pocket in the back of the stroller for a phone/keys, double storage basket, magnetic peekaboo windows so you can look down and see your baby. Front wheel suspension, deep reclining seats, and kick resistant front seat.
Anyways, you can check it out here, has informative videos and everything. I think you'd really like it. Especially since it's only 19 pounds and pretty compact.

I hate pumping too! You should try a silicone "breast pump" like a haakaa. It's really not a pump at all it simply catches to let down from the other side. I have a good freezer stash with almost no effort at all! Wish I would have known about them with my other children. You can buy a off brand on Amazon very inexpensive

YES! I agree!!! Wear it every time to nurse in the first several weeks (after your milk comes in) and you'll quickly and easily save up a nice stash without ever having to pump.

My son didn't really like to be on me all the time when he was a baby. He actually didn't enjoy being held all the time. He was always content in his bassinet/crib. It's probably because I wasn't able to breastfeed him because I didn't produce enough milk. We also didn't co-sleep mostly because my husband wasn't about that life. Lol. I wish I had seen videos like yours when I was pregnant with my son. He's 12yrs old now and he's an only child, but I love watching how other moms prepare for baby. I absolutely love watching your videos!
I had the odd duck baby that hated being held while she slept. I figured that out when she was about 4 days old and we were home from the hospital and she cried nonstop. I put her in her crib to walk away a minute because I was tired, and getting stressed and she fell right to sleep. She refused to sleep in bed with us, hated being held while she slept, so it worked for me. My sister's 2 year old is the same way. Some babies are just a little more independent sleepers. Otherwise I agree with you on just about everything essential wise. If you really want to put on a sweet little dress or pants, tights work wonders too. Socks are just worthless to babies. Even after they are old enough to stay on, they pull them off. lol. GREAT video tho Lisa! I can't wait for your little pumpkin to join the crew.
For the stroller I highly recommend the city select lux! It goes from a single to a double and you can even add a glider board to fit a 3rd

Yes ❤ My first baby was a stroller and crib kid because that's all I had ever known. So much more peace and sleep since wrapping and co-sleeping with 2-4 so far. ❤
I've always hated pumping. Kudos to the mommas who pull it off! I've always had a hard time with it.
Going on 7 years with our Baby Jogger City Select and I still love it. It is a bit heavy to get in and out of the trunk, but its totally worth the 10 seconds of heavy lifting for the ease of use and versatility. You can push and steer with one hand. Cheap strollers don't hold a candle to the more pricey ones. Get a good one! You get what you pay for when it comes to strollers (unless you're buying second hand!)! I've also used my friend's Contours and the Baby Jogger Double stroller side by side and STILL hands down prefer the City Select. It is pricey but it will hold its value and you could easily sell it when you're done with it. They sell the attachment for the carseat to click in which was awesome. My babies slept on their bellies so we had the bassinet attachment and that was a BEAUTIFUL thing for 6mo with each baby. The glider board is great for adding a 3rd child to "ride." LOL, I know you're minimal so you're probably not interested in all of the extras:-)
I would love to hear how you transition your babies out of your bed! I have found the same with my kids: cosleeping works great until it doesn’t. And I’ve had such an issue getting the kids out of my bed! I’m on baby #3, and would love any tips to transition him easily when I’m ready
So I'm transitioning my 3rd now and what has really worked for us (some trial and error with the first). Skip the toddler bed and start with a twin mattress on the floor; our first was in our room, but since then, I move them to the kids' room at this point. I start at 15-18mo (so far that's because I'm pregnant again and want/need my own space and boobs back for a bit) and nurse them to sleep while in their new bed; depending on the child, you might plan to spend the first couple of nights with them, but I'm usually able to scoot out of their bed pretty easily once they're asleep. If they wake up at night, go cuddle/nurse them back down and leave when they're asleep again. I tend to bed wean and breastfeeding wean at the same time, so right now I'm at the cuddle down stage and as she gets more comfortable with the routine, I'll just sit at the edge of her bed or next to it and rub her back or hold her hand til she's asleep. (I also take it slow and allow a couple of months for them to be totally comfortable, accepting that setbacks and teething and rough weeks all affect toddlers and they might need a little more time and patience. It won't happen in a week for mine anyways!)
I don't know how many other parents do this, but I ALWAYS leave a leak-proof sippy in their bed or next to it for my kids because if they wake up at night, chances are they get a drink and go right back to sleep. Anyways, I've noticed that's also helped with them staying in their own beds.
I babysat a newborn and he was so happy and content just laying in his little sleeper chair as long as he was fed on his schedule! He’s 4 months now I think and he’s just as chill by himself! I’ve never seen another baby like him!

I'm due with #6 in March, ages 9, 5, 3, 3, and 15 months, my 3 year olds are 10 months apart. The part where you were talking about the crib and if the child was wiggly in your bed made me laugh bc my 5 year old woke up during the night and came to sleep with me and my husband lastnight and at one point she turned sideways and gently kicked me in the cheek lol
The best baby gift I received 22 years ago was a baby gown. I liked them more than sleepers. I used them with all 4 of my children. It was easiest to change diapers through, allowed little ones to kick their feet without coming out of the leg holes :-) none of my kids liked to be swaddled.
If you use cloth diapers at night, its good to use big fitted diaper and wool nappy pants as a cover. No leekage problems :)
I just did one of these videos recently! I think they’re so fun to see 😊 My newborns are okay with not being held constantly. They do like to sit in a bouncy seat sometimes, which is super nice! Their favorite time is in the morning, and I put them in a sunny window. They love it! For double strollers, we have and love the BOB Duallie. We got ours on Craigslist 😃👍🏼 Excited to see if yours is a boy or girl this time! 💕
Hi! We just had our fourth 3 weeks ago and I just discovered you during some middle of the night nursing session. :) Love the minimalist approach, you said so many things I definitely agree with! One essential that I need though is a Nose Frida. You have probably heard of it, It is used similar to a bulb syringe to clear the nose. I also really like having a mirror for the car to see them.
Consider a side by side double stroller. They are much easier to maneuver, and you can get some that fit through a door. The BJ City Mini Double would be a good choice.

I agree that a stretchy wrap is essential! I used a Baby K'tan with my first baby. I tried skipping it with my second baby and just using a Lillebaby Complete, but that didn't work very well since it took my baby a long time to grow into it. I also didn't use an electric breast pump. Pumping and sterilizing everything is a lot of work!
I totally love your approach! I was much the same. If I didn’t need it, I didn’t buy it! I gave up on cloth diapers after my second child though- we had problems with his skin from day one. It turns out he had several very severe allergies and he was reacting even to my breast milk containing the allergens. But the other thing I loved was a pack n play! That way I could lay baby down at family members houses when we were visiting. For my last baby, I only ever used the pack n okay and never even bought a crib! 😆 So many things that you just don’t need. I hope the remainder of your pregnancy is healthy and blessed!
Love this! Could you do a video on safe cosleeping? I’m pregnant and really want to cosleep with my baby but have a really hard time finding supportive and informative videos on it and am at a loss of how to do it. Like where does the baby lay? How do you lay next to the baby? Sorry if these questions are silly I just don’t know 🙈

If you research “attachment parenting” there are several good resources for safe co-sleeping. If you are at all worried about baby having their own space, Arm’s Reach Co-sleepers are like a PacNPlay that attaches to your bed. It allows for baby to be right next to you, practically in your bed, but still have their own space.
Miriam M, this is what my husband and I plan to do. Especially since we both tend to twitch and move in our sleep.
I couldnt agree more about the baby wraps! I loved the solly but ended up giving away after my fourth baby hit 6 weeks. It stretched on me way too much. I bought my moby second hand with my third baby and it's just so good. Love your list, thanks for sharing!

Wow, it’s amazing how different two peoples experiences can be. My breastfed baby definitely got diaper rash. My baby liked being in the wrap carrier, but definitely didn’t need to be carried all day every day; we put him down a lot on the boppy pillow and in the swing. I’m definitely not a minimalist, but the nursing cover was completely useless for me. (I didn’t ask for one, but someone gave me one. I’m comfortable nursing in public.) My baby was in newborn diapers and clothes for like three months. I get my baby dressed in an outfit every day. I love the freedom pumping gives me. The idea of being stuck my (wonderful, precious, amazing) son for six months makes me want to break out in hives. Loved my boppy. Cosleeping was not an option for me. I actually found I didn’t even like sitting in my bed to nurse, I preferred to get up and sit in a chair with him. I’m not saying anything’s right or wrong (I mean, of course I think my choices are right, or I’d make different ones.) But at some point, it became like a game of spotting differences between two magazine pictures 🤣🤣
I would love to see a video on different wraps! I got one off amazon with my first thinking they were all the same. It was a heavier wrap, and my baby was a summer baby born in the south 🤦♀️
Lisa I have never disagreed with you and adore you and your family but I have to say that I wish you would reconsider co-sleeping with your new baby. After losing my newborn daughter to an illness, I later started and ran a support group for 15 years for families that lost a baby. I witnessed the gut wrenching pain and guilt that parents suffered after their babies died due to co-sleeping or letting a baby sleep in an adult bed. Blankets, bumper pads, pillows, adult mattresses, water beds, stuffed animals, siblings and parents are a huge risk factor and sadly precious babies die from suffocation in these environments. More than one parent said "all my other babies slept with us" but then their luck ran out. You are such a wonderful mother and I know you always have your children's best interest at heart. I just wish you would consider a bassinet beside your bed for this precious baby.
I posted this elsewhere but will share here too. There is a product called the Arm’s Reach Co-sleeper. It attaches directly to a bed so allows for very close contact, closer than a bassinet, but gives baby their own space. People have been co-sleeping safely for, literally, millennia but there are always safety concerns. I have no affiliation with Arm’s Reach but we have loved the convenience of their co-sleeper with our babies.

I bought the baby jogger city select and I love it! It drives/maneuvers beautifully and I love the versatility you can use it as a single or double stroller and it can fit up 3 kids if you wanted to because you can attach a skateboard...there's so much versatility with it that I just love. I bought mine brand new off of craigslist for like $300 so I'm sure you can find one for a good price

My favorite double baby stroller is the Evenflo double umbrella stroller it's ADA compliant if you leave the cup holder off and it folds up really small, it actually fits in the back of my pilot with the third row up, the same could not be said for any of the other double strollers I tested. The joovy looks great too but I couldn't find one secondhand near me.
Also my numbers 3and 4 are 11 months apart, a double stroller is a lifesaver, with two under two.
When you co-sleep, do you put pillows around the baby? Do you use a doc-a-tot as a barrier? Could you go into further detail please? 🥰
I've heard that the doc-a-tot is a safety hazard. Baby can turn their head and have their nose covered by the sides.
No pillows no blankets no sheets.
I love baby wearing! I use a ring sling while they are young and then transition into a soft seat Tula carrier when they can fit and wear them even past 1. My husband will put our 1 year old on his back when he goes out to do evening farm chores. It’s great for shopping and festivals and events. Best $120 I’ve ever spent in my life.
Lol my newb actually likes her alone time. She likes to explore and play with her mobile in her crib. She loves attention of course but I’m blessed that she just loves her own peace and environment too.
I have five kids too and I have great respect for baby-wearing moms! I am always so relieved when baby is out the belly and I can bent over again to pick up the toddler or fill the dish washer :D My babys are used from the beginning to cuddle when awake and then sleep in their own bed when sleeping...
Your lists are so helpful! I have them all saved so I can refer to them again and again. I also love how you do zero-waste "imperfectly". My first were twins so I was kinda impossible to carry them around but I wished I could have. It also helps to create that mother baby bond that so many modern mothers don’t have with their children. That’s from my experience anyhow.
Love you list of newborn and baby essentials! I wish some of those had been invented when our kids were born. Our daughter was 6 lbs, 1 oz at birth and came home at 5 lbs, 9 oz. Finding plastic pants to fit over her diapers was not fun. Even newborn Pamper-like diapers were too big. White noise~didn't have those when our kids were born between 1977-1981...at least I didn't know about them. Our oldest was born while my hubby was stationed at El Toro & we lived in housing. Jets and other planes, etc took off literally right behind housing. I could watch them take off from my kitchen window. Our oldest would sleep through all that noise! I basically didn't tiptoe around with any of our kids and even vacuumed, etc while they were sleeping. :D

My biggest regret with my first was not getting a single to double conversion stroller. There are a few really cool ones on the market that can do so many different configurations of one seat, two seats, car seat, etc. Now #2 is cooking and the babes will be 19 months apart. Definitely going to replace our single with a modular stroller on marketplace.

When you did your first video I thought it was odd you didn't use a swing lol. That was always an essential for me. Like I went out the same day and picked up a "new" used one the day mine broke with 2 of my babies! I love to snuggle baby but sometimes Mama's got to get things done without something attached to them :)
I like the ergo carrier for when baby is a little bigger. Oh and someone made me a jersey stretch blanket for my last and I loved it so if I ever have another if probably pick up a couple neutral ones of those as well

We like our baby jogger double stroller. It has been wonderful because we walk every day in the spring, summer, and fall around the neighborhood. I can push with one hand even with a double. We have no issues going through doorways even though it’s side by side. I love your insight. We are expecting our fourth baby in January and it’s a good refresher.
I also use 90% sleepers until it’s warmer. Same for laundry detergent as you. We got a solly wrap this time around to try it. Hopefully we like it!

100 percent agree with just keeping baby on your person for the first few months. With my first I kept trying to put him down to get stuff done and then would be overwhelmed with him crying. With my second I now just wear her and cosleep. She barely cries and I feel so rested.
Thank you for simply laying out the essentials! Our first baby is coming in May and it's good to know what you really need. Anytime we go shopping people like to tell us what kind of chair, pillow, clothes, furniture etc you need, but really I'm starting to think Baby just wants to be close and cared for (diapering/feeding/carrying)

That’s what we did with the diapers too! We had people gift us newborn size diapers and when we were through with those we started on the one-sizes. 👍🏻
Couple of suggestions, when purchasing a double stroller , watch the width and weight of the stroller. I’m 5’3” and had one for my 2 nd and 3 rd child. Handy but so heavy and awkward. I would really check out your options a single that lays flat. Also after having my first and leaked so much I bought inexpensive hand towels and facecloths which can still be used after. Hope these ideas help.
I’m just amazed you go a whole time nursing without pumping. How do you deal if you become engorged? Blocked ducts or Mastitis? Nursing strikes with a baby under a year due to age, teething , sickness etc? Travel? I’m just shocked. A pump is a must have for me for those unfortunate every once in a while situations I have found myself in these last 14 months. Car seats expire because of the materials they are made of break down over time. If your even in a small fender bender you should replace your car seats in the car also. As much as they keep kids safe they do breakdown in safety over time.

Totally agree with you Lisa! I'm a mommy to 8 and my first was carried on the front for a year and then on my back for a year that guy just wanted to be near me and i think that's awesome. I have tried so many carries for all 8 and I think I loved them all. I pray you will have a safe and joyful delivery.

@@angelcarine1332 hi im not sure if your asking me or Lisa but I'll tell you which ones I liked. For my newborns I always preferred a sling with or without the ring I especially liked a fleece sling I copied the pattern of one I owned it was so warm and snuggly for a newborn in the colder months. For bigger babies I still stay true to slings but also liked the ergo 360 and the beco. I have been so lucky to scoop up some pricey name brand carriers cheap at my local thrift store. So keep an eye out for that, it saves so much money just throw it in the wash. especially if you aren't sure if youll like a carrier that is expensive and they only way to find out is to use it a lot and you probably can't return a used one.
Ha ha! Love this list. So many other lists are so over the top. I have so many similarities to you, i never use a breast pump (i have a manual one for emergencies such as oversupply or during weaning), and yes to stuffing spit up rags in your bra at night! Ha ha ha!
Also, with babies over 8 pounds, i have no idea how you managed to carry them for 3 months extra, my 9 pound babies were just too bad on my back and healing scars and sore initial breast feeding boobs!!
I also cant live without my rocking chair and baby swing! The best!!
And yes to sleepers! My babies live in them day and night till they can crawl!

Car seats expire because they are made of plastic. That plastic is exposed to heat and cold while in the vehicle and eventually weakens.
For the momaroo swing, also see if you can borrow it from someone on your local buy nothing.
OMG! Where were you three years ago!? I would have loved to have all these tips with my first. We kept it really simple too but hearing your theories on co-sleeping, weaning, diapers....would have saved me some $$ but more importantly would have given me ideas I absolutely would have grabbed on to and cherished (like extra sleep...)
Consider a Mountain Buggy or an Out and About Nipper for your double stroller. I've nannied for about 6 different sets of twins and those two are the absolute best, in my opinion. In the UK they're extremely easy to buy second hand and they last forever. They go off-road like a dream, suitable from birth, can be adapted to hold a car seat, fit through doorways and you won't feel like you've spent $$$$ on a brand new double that you end up not needing after 6 months because M decides he can walk everywhere. OR consider a Phil and Teds, since that can go into a single stroller easily, but is still good to push on or off road.

Thirsties size 1 covers are awesome, they fit really small babies up to well over the smallest size of the one size. I think we used them for the first 6 months.

I'm having baby number 7 in 3 months and I am a very minimalist when it comes to babies. But there are a few go to baby items that I can't live without, one of them is a nursing poncho!!! I'm so glad I found out about them, they are stylish and you wear it as a scarf and pop it over you nurse and then back to scarf and you can wrap baby or cover the car seat.

Hey from Va🌿 If you do not want to pump, I hear the Haakaa pump (really milk catcher) is great bc you just use it on the side you're not nursing on and no pumping. I did not have a great pumping experience and will definitely try this next time. Take care✨

Amazon has a essential oil diffuser that has a noise maker on it!! It’s pretty cool!! I bought it for my daughter because she has trouble sleeping!!
Also another essential for co-sleeping is the snuggle me organic!!!

We haven’t touched our swing, it’s been a total waste. We have used a dock a tot style pillow this time and it’s helped so much.
I wasted so much money on just baby items: changing table, bath tub, playpen, high chair, and even a crib😂. I got rid of everything by the time she was 1. The only item I loved was a rock n play, which is now recalled! I loved that thing. If I ever have a baby again, I would hunt that thing down or find something like it! I just can't wait for your new addition💖
I love my city select and its awesome because later it can be a single stroller if you want. We have the scooter that hooks onto the back. We have always had 2-3 babies at a time that need a stroller and have had many strollers over the years this one is by far our favorite and the most practical long term.
I use reusable cotton/bamboo nursing pads in conjunction with a reusable milk catcher through the day. I get enough over time to have a spare bottle and I haven't pumped since.. i don't mind pumping though.
I have a ton of nursing bras but my favorites have no wires and simply pull down. I use these in conjunction with nursing tops and dresses, they really help throughout the day and when out and about, which is often for me.
I just had my second two months ago and I'm already having baby fever again. 😁 My son is still in newborn cloth diapers at the moment and I feel they are a great investment, my children have been in the 7 lb range, 7 10 and 7 5.
I definitely recommend a Phil & Teds convertible double stroller. It easily switches from single to double and folds nice and compact for a double. We bought ours when we had our second and we're still using it with #5 on the way. I love it still!
In regards to a double stroller, I recommend the Joovy qool double stroller. It’s a great stroller and even has an option to sit a third child.
I know you aren’t planning on using bottles, but to anyone else, mason bottles are amazing!
My favorite, hands down double stroller is the “sit and stand” stroller. It is light weight, big basket underneath which is easy to get to, it is front and back, not side and side, so easy to push through an aisle . You click the babies car seat into the front (over the seat) or on top of the bench seat of the stroller. So Micha can sit in the front seat and your new baby in the car seat. There is a full seat in the front and bench or seat for the second child to sit or stand. I wish I had this even with my first and wish I had found it before I bought our full huge double stroller ( that was also front to back, not side by side) but it was sooo heavy and if I put that in my Jeep Grand Cherokee trunk, I didn’t have room for any groceries.
Love you girl, I feel overwhelmed, and want to go minimalist. As for stroller, I swear by city select and my sister by Phil and Ted. Very very good.
Double stroller recommendation: Graco Stadium Duo, it has been a lifesaver for my last 2 babies who are 13 months apart. It's affordable, no bells and whistles but it's great at doing what it's supposed to do :D

There are two types - side-by-side and one behind the other. Stop and think where you'll be using it. Some store doors are too narrow for the side-by-side.
I usually advocate for buying everything second hand, but the problem with buying those swings second hand is sometimes the engine slows down depending on how long the previous baby used them and how heavy the baby was
