    You can cut food cost down considerably by shopping at the local mercados for fruits, veggies, meat, fish and poultry also when eating out, the local "Mom and Pop" bars/cafes. Sounds like you are having a wonderful time so far.

    The health insurance is so cheap! I pay $250 for myself for one month and that still has a $6000 deductible (in the US) 🤦🏼‍♀️ I think the food is also so much cheaper than other major cities in the US 🙌🏽

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi, Jackie! When we return to the US we can only stay 21 days on this plan. If we want to stay longer we would have to be on a different plan that cost more. Our system in the US is overpriced!! The cost of living is cheaper in Spain and even better where we are currently in Portugal. We are really loving the Algarve! Thank you for watching!!

    Thanks Carrie and Brian for the great long-term travel videos! Living the dream :) I looked just now for Airbnb's in Valencia and there are only 2 for under $1,000 per month, the one you stayed at was one of them. Just wondering if maybe the lower prices you got were due to Covid discounts? Did you by chance use any other avenues to find rentals in Spain and Portugal?

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  Před rokem +2

      Hi Jessica! We found prices to stay stable during covid and after travel started to pick up again Airbnb's started to go up a bit but it really felt more like making up for lost revenue. There are so many variables that go into the pricing when we are looking for a place. - time of year, any events going on during that time, supply and demand. We've changed the path we were traveling due to pricing and knowing if we instead come back to that area a month later than planned we may get much more.

    Immensely helpful - thank you! I loved hearing your cost and tips regarding your Airbnb.
    I can’t wait to see a tour.
    Do you feel that the $850 per month rate reflects the fact that you are renting during the shoulder season?
    If so, do you have a guess of how much this place would be during the high season, and also the low season?
    Also, do you feel that getting a place in the more touristy district would be approximately $1050, also for a two or 3 Bedroom place?
    Finally, do you all try to further negotiate the price down, we’re generally go with the discounted, long-term rate that is included in the listing?

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  Před 2 lety +2

      We honestly believe the cost has more to do with the fact that we are staying for 30 days. You get quite the discount for a months stay regardless of the time of year. I imagine if you want to stay in a 3 bedroom flat in old town you would pay more. Transportation is so good in Valencia you really don't need to.

    Hey I hope somebody replies to this 😅… I’m looking to move to Valencia from London where I have lived for 5 years.. I am selling my property BUT I’m only wanting to RENT in Valencia!!
    Bit of background of my situation.. I have a LTD British company but I work 14days at sea in the Netherlands and live the other 14 days at home in UK, so I would not want to work in Spain/Valencia. I’d like to simply rent an apartment in Valencia and do the same exact same as I’m doing now in London work 14 days offshore in Netherlands where I live on a vessel 🚢 and then spend the other days in my rented accommodation in Valencia.
    COULD I DO THIS? What would I need? I have no ties at all , no kids,no girlfriend, no debts, is this possible as I’m not sure how having a British LTD company would effect me living in Spain .. apologies for the long message and probably confusing to some but there we go 😅 anyone living in Valencia who could help me out it would be much appreciated👌🏼🤝🏼 thanks

    VALENCIA SPAIN is on my wife and I's list of places to travel to. In this video you mention health insurance, and you say $270 USD is a good price for the 2 of you, that may be true coming from the USA, but you mention you have not made a claim yet, so you really do not know how good the insurance coverage is, I am finding more and more people tell me that they thought they were covered only to find out trying to make a claim is anything but straight forward. In some of your other Videos, especially SE Asia you have learned that "pay-as-you-go" may very well be cheaper for health care and no fighting with an insurance company, would you agree to this? Most likely my wife and I will end up moving to the Philippines, my wife is Filipino, and we get 1 year at the airport without any problems (no Visa required), we can extend our stay indefinitely, English is spoken all over the Philippines, cost of living is very low compared to Europe or North America. We are Canadians, with a retirement income of about $5,000 CAD, or about $3800 USD, we feel we should be fine paying for health services out of pocket, our reserve fund is over 1 million, we are getting interest from a term deposit at the moment of 5.95%, that can and will change in the future, but when our pensions kick in at age 65 we will have another $2,000 a month in income. Plus we will rent our townhouse out in Canada for another $3,000 a month and clear $2,000 minimum after all expenses and strata (HOA) fees, so we feel our income will be way more than we can spend. Using the Philippines as a home base is fantastic, we can fly anywhere we want in SE Asia easily, Thailand is better for that of course, but we are not willing to learn a new language at this stage of our life, we can travel to Thailand as much as we want. We may try Thailand for a while and see how it goes, but after spending 2 months in Thailand last winter, we found the Philippines more friendly and easier to communicate. Of course Thailand has better food (way better) and much better infrastructure (no comparison to the Philippines). Your videos are very informative, we really appreciate what you are doing.
