- Tony Giles is a world traveler based in Teignmouth, England. He’s got the spirit of an adventurer, having visited over 125 countries and all seven continents, all without sight. Born with a rare eye condition, Tony lost his vision completely at the age of 9. Despite being blind and 80% deaf in both ears, nothing could hold Tony back. After going on his first adventure at age 16, he was bit by the travel bug and has been exploring the world ever since.

Nothing can stop a traveller
i plan to travel for 2-3 years by quiting my job [planned on a replacement] have been saving up
it will take another year probably but i would very much like to travel all the natural wonders and the ancient ruins 1st the big cities tend to change so those are secondary
i have been planneing for the last 5 years the perfect route to take

Met Tony about eight years ago in Capadocia (central Turkey) in the underground cities. Great guy, very inspiring, and a pleasure to travel with for a few days. He was the star of every gathering.
And I'm planning to travel solo..I doubted myself before but no I'm doing this..Such an inspiration

You are so amazing and such an inspiration. Through health issues I saw my brother slowly loose his eyesight over the years and in a matter of years he eventually lost his battle due to various health problems. Seeing your story warms my heart.

I understand his lifegoal. But I don't understand why. Why would you spend your life travelling around the world blind? Wouldn't that be such a waste? (not critisizing). If only he could see the wonders of the world. (But also risking to see the dread of the world)

Meaning and context. If I can't visually experience where I'm at I wouldn't find meaning. Beauty, inspiration, wonderment, cultural diversity, art, the amazement of human activity all rely heavily upon the ability to experience them visually and thus find meaning and context. Having been sighted, to lose sight I would find no meaning in travel, I would be in despair. However,if I did not have context to begin with, exploring beyond the mere sound of my own heartbeat would be a fascinating way of finding meaning in life!
