The Nun Who Said "No" To Mother Teresa

  • As a teenager, Mary Johnson thought she was on her way to a career as a thinker and communicator, when she spotted Mother Teresa's eyes on the cover of Time Magazine. After reading her story, Mary felt God calling her. For twenty years, as Sister Donata, Mary Johnson was a Missionary of Charity, a nun in Mother Teresa's order, until she left in 1997. Mother Teresa professed that she had "promised to give Saints to Mother Church", but a life pursuing humility, poverty, love and obedience wasn't easy. Mary Johnson's book, "An Unquenchable Thirst", is the memoir of her life as a Missionary of Charity, and a story of her search for love, service, and an authentic life.
Today Mary is a respected teacher and public speaker. She has been named a Fellow of the MacDowell Colony and is on the board of the A Room of Her Own Foundation. She lives in New Hampshire with her husband.

I believe God and I believe Mother Teresa. But we cant avoid that many will use DIVISION TECHNIQUE against Catholic faithful. But it is not new to us since the time of Jesus Christ. Satan used Scripture to tempt Jesus and till now uses Bible to oppose Jesus' mystical body-Catholic Church. Satan's minions have used stories of saints to mislead Catholic believers. So, let us be very careful.

She didn't say NO to the Mother Theresa but to the choice, she has made
    20 years earlier.
Since she couldn't keep the promises of the obedience and chastity why she made them at the first place?
Secondly, before any nun becomes a nun she is making temporary promises and renews them for a temporal period usually for one year and she does it few times. She is given a long time to see how nunhood looks like and many times it takes years to understand and accept the choice. Only then such woman's decision ends up with eternal promises.
Thirdly, each convent/monastery has its own spirit and rules that's why future nuns are given a long period of time to observe and to live the life of the convent in order to understand and recognize what they really want to do.
I am Roman Catholic and this lady talks funny things like she completely misunderstands the spirit of the order she has followed for so many years.
And yes, contraception is a deadly sin but not according to the teachings of Mother Theresa but according to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church! She was the nun inside the Catholic Church not in the Protestant Church :P

I think Mother Teresa was all about converting the poor and dying to Christianity. She has stated before she is not a social worker. Money collected went to the Vatican. She even accepted donations from dodgy dictators and thieves. They reused needles and she believed the poor were meant to live in pain and suffering. She felt the presence of Jesus amongst all that suffering.
I don’t think she cared about alleviating anyone’s pain and suffering. I believe she felt closer to God through the suffering of the poor.

It was a free choice to join them, she had the first years to learn about the mission and just before taking the final vows she could say No thanks. Always a free decision. Same way for priesthood. But it took her 20 years to realized that the life of a Missionarie of Charity was not for her. At the end all was her personal choices.

Its simple, that the life of the Missionary of Charity is not for you... Some religious like the monks have stricter life in comparison to the of Mother Theresa's congregation. You said she is exceedingly extraordinary personyou've ever met...a very intelligent/clever woman but all of a sudden turning 360 degrees and said not the wisest person you've met and go to the extent that it is the "CHURCH" that gave her the impetus the things she did.
Christ never had a formal education but no one can deny that she was and still is the greatest teacher, missionary, doctor, social worker, etc. of all time...if i were you sister just focus on your learnings and accept the fact that you have been driven to the life of the missionary of charity not because you see your life in them but may have been swayed by their acts of charity. Your disagreement of her stand on artificial contraceptive only shows that your mind and heart is not "catholic". She lives by the scripture and the faith in christ and his body consistently until her death. If i too believe in the natural family planning then, would you consider me unnatural because of what the modern society tell us?
You are once a sister and theologically more knowledgeable than me, however, let me share to you what was inculcated to me in the mass readings and i quote "For I am the LORD, I change not (Malachi 3:6) even if the world try to change us and mock us because its the "FAD" of today - shall i bow before the world?
I do not judge you sister for who you are but these are mere observations on your statements... It is good that you have chosen to have another vocation that is "MARRIAGE" and i pray that you will be successful in it. God bless you still.

Ordination in an order is not the only way to devote oneself to God. It is never about the form (the order, the habits, the rituals, the cloister), but about where your mind is at. A mother or father with 5 children can be more devoted to God and to living a life of service than a nun or priest. It's never about the form! Or what it LOOKS like. So can a prostitute be devoted to God, if she or he (many people are prostitutes in life who don't even practice as one) is pure of heart and is kind to others and refrains from judgment of others. What makes you wicked is not what you DO in life, or how you appear, but how much you judge others. It's never about the FORM or the JOB! It is also not about what people DO, but what they ARE in their hearts. A Pope can be evil and a robber a very kind person. It's never about the form. Be not deceived! The religious institutions do NOT have the only way to God. The pathways to God are many and let no man decide for you how to get there. This woman listened to the Holy Spirit and found that her path to God was not in an order and that's completely fine. To those of you on here who are enjoying sitting in judgment of her, remember the words of Mother Teresa: "when you judge others you have no time to love them".

I’m not sure what we are supposed to learn from this video. Mother Teresa didn’t force any woman to be a nun. She never presented herself as a saint and she did not preach at people. She just tried to help-and she did help untold numbers of human beings. Mother Teresa and her nuns helped those no one else cared about, and she did it as a Catholic nun, so it shouldn’t have been a surprise to Mary Johnson that The Missionary Sisters of Charity operated within the bounds of Catholic teaching. There is now a disinformation campaign on the Internet seeking not just to disagree with Mother Teresa’s traditional Catholicism, as Mary Johnson does in good faith-but to twist and distort Mother Teresa’s life’s work to make it appear evil. That’s what worries me, that videos like this will be used selectively to discredit and negate the work of Mother Teresa and her valiant Sisters. Although I doubt that Mary Johnson is an atheist, I know that militant atheists will try and use her critique of Mother Teresa’s methods to create a bad impression of the nun. Militant atheists, who can and will will turn ANY discussion on any subject into a polemic against believers, really seem to hate her guts. Think of the late Christopher Hitchens, who was obsessed with slandering Mother Teresa. Myself, I judge Mother Teresa by her works, and her works were humble and good. So bugger the critics. Bravo to Mother Teresa I say, she made a difference for hundreds of thousands of human beings.

All the criticisms this woman levels come from a worldly perspective. She obviously was able to internalise neither Catholic doctrine in general nor the monastic character in particular; hence her friction with Mother Teresa during her time with the Missionaries of Charity. She clearly understands nothing of the authentic Catholic viewpoint in respect to major issues like love, contraception, care for the sick, nor any of the rest of it. Such a clueless person never should have attempted to enter monastic life in the first place.

Agreed aimeemacdn. The fact of the matter was that she was the one in the role/position to actually do the right thing but chose otherwise in embracing the babylonian hermetic pleasure and pain dynamic (yes, the Catholic Church is an attempted reinvigoration of the kemetic babylonian mystery school system). Those who are in the craft know this as well.
Whats funny is that when she dealt with health issues she didn’t suffer in grace. She used medical care treatments lol. What’s good for the goose wasn’t good for the gander I suppose smh.

Hence Mother Theresa! She was not who you think she was.
She was an 'image" for the people. One of love, charity, and Religion
but inwardly she was sadistic and cruel. For she looked in the face of
suffering and did nothing to alleviate it! Mother Theresa was also very
wealthy and very well connected. So she definitely could have done something about people's pain, but chose not too. Light is being revealed on all "supposed heroes" in the movement of God . Billy Graham, Mother Theresa, and many other "heroes" of the faith are now, and rightfully so, being called into question. But will people listen to the facts?...

She said a horrible lie about Mother Theresa because you were born in a country with lots of comfort that you cannot separate from. The reason why it's a strict religious order is because they adhere to the call of God, to follow Jesus's way of life and not the worldly life that this former nun was accustomed to She succumbed to the call of easy worldly western life. Temptation of the flesh is very strong among priests, clergy and religious life. What a pity, using the name of Mother Thersa to sell books Possibly there's jealousy or envy involved on being chosen for a higher position inside MOC. It's not a career, it's a vocation. You need to discern before using the name of Mother St.Theresa of Kolkotta.

To not hold a baby is abuse. Baby's need to be held. It has been proven that it's an important part of their development and health. A child that is just fed and clothed will suffer and many die. They need to be touched, played with, as well as fed and clothed. She would have served better if she worked with medical professionals. This is the main reason that I don't like dogma. Hard and fast rules are destructive.

People do not realize, when you are on a mission, dealing with a mass of that immensity ~ year after year, decade after decade after decade, SOME can develope a thick skin. & some people are just on a mission to save, while others like to poke & prod, find fault & judge someone who has never walked in another's shoes. That is more evil in itself! Mother Theresa was also not a perfect human... NEITHER ARE WE.
