Swatch book is work of art on its own.

This is the first video I’ve seen with so many different brands swatched! It was super cool to see.

That’s a great idea keeping them all in a tidy book. My swatches are currently all in a big jumble! :)

It does help a lot, especially when you need to pick colours for a palette made up from different brands :)

Wow, such a comprehensive swatch book, thanks for sharing this :) I need to try combining all my swatches into one big book as well.

Yes it would make your life so much easier! With all those watercolour collections that we all have it is hard to remember exactly how the pigments look on paper :)) and for example a Sap Green will look very different in every brand so it helps to have all these swatched out in one place :)

Oh fantastic! I have made a swatch book for myself too but it is full lol my last collection I bought was qor set of 24. I love them they are are so vibrant. I'm going to order some additional colours. I have mijello mission gold which I love too. My next thing will be to make up a palette of Daniel smith. My favourite watercolours would have to be mijello mission gold simply for their vibrancy. I do a bit of urban sketching and landscape painting. They just add life to your work. The vibrancy stays after dry.

Mijello and Qor are amongst my favourite watercolour also for their vibrancy! :) I had my Daniel Smith (18) watercolour palette set up since last year but for some reason stopped using them for a while and recently rediscovered their beauty! So the portable (12) palette I am now putting together ended up having 6 (possibly 7, as I am considering undecided about the red) Daniel Smith colours :)

I use a flip book for my swatches too. Is yours cellulose or cotton? Mine is cellulose but to me it doesn't matter for swatches. I love seeing what others have in their watercolor collection.

Hi Alyona, you could use some washi tape on the right side as tabs bent over on themselves so that you can find your brands quickly........thankd for your videos. The white nights look nice and bright.

Cool idea! I recently thought about making a big color chart for every watercolor brand I own, so I can fill it out and know exactly which and how many colors I have of a brand.

Aura Verdigris I’ve been meaning to do it this year too, on individual smaller cards but where do you find the time to do this, will take at least a few days! 😅

@@AlyonasWatercolourCreations It really takes a lot of time to make swatchcards 😅 Cutting them alone took me days, since I didnt have a cutting machine back then. I can only recommend the effort though. With the swatch cards you can easily lay out color combinations or compare colors of same name or pigment.
It was a real game changer for me

I have a folder with swatch cards made from my favourite paper (Clairefontaine etival, cellulose).
It has all the infos on it I need, that way I can compare colors of the same name or the same pigment easily.
Just a little overview is lacking, for this a book or a sheet with all the colors of a brand would be useful.

I have added a few links where I could find this sketchbook, it's Khadi Papers 210 gsm smooth. Mine is hardcover, but you can get paper cover for cheaper but still the same paper inside. The Jackson's link I included sell the paper cover version of my sketchbook. Hope this helps :)

Wow very useful and interesting video! Can I ask you now, given your experience in the field, what watercolours would you recommend for botanical painting?
I currently own a 36 colour set from W&N cotman, but would like to improve the rendering of my work and make a good investment! Thank you☺️

Thank you! As this is an older video I don’t remember the context, but from my experience now I wound recommend Schmincke Horadam or Sennelier for botanical art. 🧡

Hello Alonya, I love your videos. I purchased my first pallet based upon your video reviews (Mijello) I am still very happy with the initial investment. I have since added the white nights 36 colors, kuretake 36 colors, I have individual tubes of winsor and Newton, schminke, Daniel Smith and lots of M. Graham. I have to purchase most of my paints online, the only watercolors I can get locally at a store are M. Graham. We should do a watercolors sample swapp! I am in America, I try to only purchase unique pigments I do not already have but sometimes I make mistakes. The paints are so freaking expensive, but I keep buying more.
I have empty half pans, but also, those flat pallets are only a few $ here. Would you be interested in trading watercolors samples? I could send you a list of the M. Graham colors I have, and I would be interested in trying out sennelier or schminke horadam. My M Graham tubes are very large so I could sample swap in half pans. M. Graham watercolors are super pigmented and vibrant, on par with Daniel Smith. The downside to M. Graham is that the honey which I believe contributes to the vibrancy, also contributes to the long drying time on the pallet.
I actually have a love hate relationship with M Graham, I love this watercolor and consider it my favorite, for reasons I would LOVE for you to experience, but hate it everytime I make up a new pallet and M. Graham is soooo messy to deal with, its so highly pigmented and until it drys out at least a week, it is stickier than hello.
If you are interested in swapping some watercolors, contact me and we can figure out the best way to do it. Let me know what you think!
I have ordered some sennellier but I am still waiting for them to arrive (it's been about 2 weeks).
