Watch me run across the narrowest 3-country salient in the world (First person to EVER document)

- Side note: I did this all in Flip-flops LOL. I believe this is the narrowest salient chokepoint in the world between 3 countries (There is a disputable narrower one possibly on the tip of Slovenia however most maps don't accurately depict boundary lines on shifting river bends and it could just be a tripoint)

Many of you were curious about this after watching the #Togo Episode so here you go. Enjoy your Eiffel towers and Colluseums. This is my type of tourism. At only about 130 meters wide this is the "V" in Togo.- It is (I believe) the narrowest salient chokepoint in the world between 3 countries. I had to see it. I had to conquer it. I also believe I am the first ever person to document this experience as the border guards told me never in their entire careers have they ever heard of anyone (local or foreign) doing this.
Now do the Zimbabwe - Botswana - Namibia and Zambia one
Paul you should run in a Marathon
I long to visit the Netherlands/Belgium border only to lay out a blanket and take a nap with my head and feet in one country and my body in another. JaJa
(I'm sure in one of those "divided" houses there is such a place)
You are an interdimensional hero.
I love interesting borders like this! A few years ago I visited Baarle-Nassau and Baarle-Hertog in the Netherlands/ Belgium with all the enclaves. (My hotel room was in the Netherlands but right up against a Belgian border.)
"Here today...Ghana tomorrow!"

I am from New Zealand, we are surrounded by water, and I too, am fascinated by international borders and border crossings and the like. It has been a dream of mine to cross borders by foot, and visit lesser known countries. Any way, bless you for bringing this wonderful channel/programme, long may it continue..Bravo
I have this fascinations with the concept of timezones and crossing them. It blows my mind. My dream is to cross from east to west via the pacific lol. It was crazy enough flying from Johannesburg to Sydney.oh and also Japan to England was crazy.
Here in Paraguay we are the opposite, we are surrounded by land XD
I'm from the US, and though it's never happened, I think it would be _really cool,_ one day, to stand _right_ at an international border for a moment, with each foot in a different nation.
If at some point I get the chance, I'll have to make sure to bring my _camera,_ to _document_ the event.
@@lazyperfectionist1 yu atleast have all those huge states though lol don't you get that feeling when you go to a different state? I'd love to travel to different states someday

Now that's a Speedrun
I found a narrower place. Near the tripoint of Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary there is a small salient of Slovenia that is only about 32 m wide at its narrowest point. The closest settlement is Muraszemenye in Hungary.
EDIT: I've read the description and decided to check it out. Google maps seems to have pulled this one out of their ass. Neither the official maps of the Croatian or the Slovenian national geodesy services claim that the border goes like that. I haven't checked the Hungarian one out, but I doubt they disagree.
I find it interesting that pretty much every map service shows that border area slightly different with Google maps being the most different.
Yeah that’s the one that I was writing about in the video, Google maps sometimes messes up borders in certain areas, so they aren’t exactly the most reliable source when it comes to these types of cartographic anomalies.
*Sights* books tickets
@@GeographyNow I learned some time ago that Google Maps can be inaccurate. While it’s free (thank you!), I’d verify anything before trusting it as a definite resource.
According to Arbitration Agreement this tripoint does not exist anymore, not in that shape after all. Croatian side is not accepting the Arbitration Agreement, so the previous tripoint may be also terra nullius now, I am not sure... It is also worth mentioning that area is swamp, so you cannot "run" there.
As a geography obsessed, self-employed middle aged man with 3 kids, student loans and a mortgage, all I can do is live vicariously through you on CZcams and enjoy every minute of it.

He can finally say he’s been to Burkina Faso 🤣 even if it was for 2 minutes
More accurately 5 minutes 🤣
In Sweden there is also a border of 3 countries meeting at one point
@@antonblam2 that’s not right tho, he says at the end he had lunch + he started there so would’ve taken more time.
He needs to visit Kazungula area where he can cross over 4 countries
Barbs, what I really like about you is how genuinely excited you get about things like this.
Most people: "Just walked some 130 meters. Meh."
Paul Barbato: "I just crossed into THREE COUNTRIES by running 130 METERS! THIS IS CRAZY!!! THIS IS SO AWESOME!!!"
You being honestly enthusiastic about what you do is a big part of why I watch this channel.
also him not being "youtubey" about it helps
well it s a big deal , we talking about the border of three countries , that border embodies their history and all what they have been through ,and not just that any tension or problems in relations between these countries will manifest in that border so yeah it s a very interesting location
When Mr. Barb starts running back he says, "I am Ghana go togo to Burkino Faso!!"😆😆
😂🤛
This jokes way overused
Theres a similar location near the Russian-Chinese-DPRK tripoint thats like a dozen metres wide (width of a road). Though I doubt you could cross those three countries haha
Well if you want to get shot, then you can definitely try that border crossing lol
That's the hardcore version xd
It's slightly wider, I just checked and it's around 250m. Also, most of that distance is the Tumen river, making it more complicated even if you would get permission from border guards to cross there (not that anyone will get that permission obviously!).
עכ
@@martenkats6915 Tumen river is where some North Korean defectors escape and I heard there are guards underground to watch
Makes you realize how utterly absurd borders are
not really
Especially the straight line borders in Africa. There's really nothing on the ground that would tell you that you crossed from Burkina Faso into Togo.
Yep, came here to post the same. I once lived next to a European border and it was really silly (though people did speak different languages across the border - guess you have to keep them separated or something?)
Borders separate my maternal Tribe that is the Ewes. You can find them in the 3 countries.
Man appeared in three countries in the span of about 4 minutes. Legend.
well, that is easy: Go to any tripoint that you can walk around (e.g. mustn't be in a river), and walk in a small circle around it.
I don’t know why but this made me smile the whole time. I was cheering you on from my living room in Germany 😂

omg swifite
Your name's weird, but it a swiftie 😀
Owing to your last statement of "You can have your Eiffel Towers..." etc. I love the small, out of the ordinary rather than the big and touristy stuff that's out there! I work as a flight attendant and travel mainly internationally. I was just in Naples, Italy the other day and found it way too crowded for my taste, even though it was my first time being there. I didn't even feel like going out and doing any of the touristy things! Was also in a small village in Bulgaria and absolutely loved it! I too like the weird border things, particularly the seemingly straight line borders. Check out the northern border of California. Seems straight... there are a few weird anomalies!
This reminded me of somebody running the whole width of the Gambia. 😁
Pppeter

Or Geowizard crossing Scotland, Wales and Norway in a straight line.
This takes “cross country” to a new level.
I love to learn things about my country🇬🇭

This was very cool, but at the same time I was saying to myself "please don't hit a land mine!". The anxiety was real! Keep up the amazing work brother!
In Indonesia, there is also a unique border where there is a house that is divided into two countries, namely Indonesia and Malaysia, you have to see it, it's very interesting 😁🙏

There should be a yearly race where people do this. One person from each country, fastest across gets bragging rights or smth. Idk, seems like a cool idea

Hey Paul Barbs @Geography Now, since you enjoyed crossing 3 countries in less than 10 minutes, in Southern Africa at the Quadripoint you can cross 4 countries in the same amount of time😃.The countries are Botswana 🇧🇼, Namibia🇳🇦, Zambia 🇿🇲 and Zimbabwe 🇿🇼.
Barb needs to try this one if he ever visits those countries.
@@PatManDX hopefully in the Zambia or Zimbabwe episodes
How do you get into Namibia (without swimming or using a boat)?
@@jostein1195 on that one its really hard to go to Namibia without a boat since the quadripoint is on the Zambezi River. Maybe my brothers and sisters in Namibia can help on this one.

There is disused rail line that belongs to Belgium, but on both sides of it is Germany. So, you could jump over Belgium.
you should hang out with Tim Traveler sometimes, also there are also quite a lot tripoints and [multi-level] enclaves/exclaves.
That was awesome! You ran just over the length of a soccer field and visited 3 countries!
So cool. Would totally love to do this. Being in 3 different countries in the spam of 5 minutes, who would've known it was possible.

i am impressed by the good signal that GPS has in such a remote and rural area!
When I saw you mentioning this in your togo episode I believed you but I also didn't realize you could do it in under 5 minutes. Wow! XD
Have you seen the straight line missions by Geowizard? They're a great watch and seem _right_ up your alley considering you just went ahead and did this!
One hundred years ago, you could do the same on the border between Mexico and the USA. It has become a lot riskier nowadays 😂
if these countries followed different time zones you would have time travelled for real.
you gotta watch the new video
That was so kool! I wish that it was me! Thanks for sharing!!!!!!
In the westernmost part of Czechia, there is a strip of land between 3 historical lands - Bohemia, Bavaria and Saxony - but it is much wider (about 4.2 km at narrowest part).
And there's another similar piece of land near the tripoint of Czechia, Austria and Slovakia.
have you checked the tri-point in "Vaals" /Aachen? you can literally with two steps go into 3 countries - Germany, Netherlands and Belgium.
Barbs crushes it! And doing something that was especially "salient" to a channel called Geography Now!
I forgot to comment this is so good
What a unique experience! 😄 Paul's awesome lol.
I wondered why it wasn’t on the Togo video but I’m glad to watch the whole run from BF-Togo-Ghana “V”.
I believe you mean to say crevice when you said cavern, possibly.
That was really cool. Also, slightly off topic, but I appreciate you showing a video where random plants and minor bumps/indents in the Earth are evident. Maybe it's is just me, but that makes those countries, Burkina Faso, Togo, and Ghana, seem more real and less like magical fairy tale lands. Keep up the awesome work!
