You speed through the areas that need speeding through and are very persice in the areas needed. I watch allot of tutorials on bag making and you are by far the best!! What a totally AMAZEBALLS tutorial! I am just "learning" to see and am struggling with so many bag and especially wallets. I am a complete hands-on/visual learning individual. Since we are all living as shut-in right now, I can't exactly take classes and am doing my best. With you literally breaking everything down and being very detailed with this tutorial, it does not seem as intimidating. I think with the countless tutorials I have watched, I can say I would not feel like purchasing both this pattern and the insert template as being a waste. I have ordered them tonight and can't wait to make this wallet with your tutorial pasted to my phone! Thank you SO very much for sharing in a beginner friendly way!

I still haven't started on it and was supposed to have it for her for Christmas. But I couldn't find the right fabric I wanted to use. I'm ordering the fabrics today. I kept thinking I had lining fabric to go with the outside, but nothing would really go together. There are so many choices, that I also get confused. I need someone to shop for me! LOL. Hello, I just wanted to say that I love your channel. You give such great instructions, I love your enthusiasm, and you make sewing fun and simple. I love the Road Trip Wallet, but I would like to make it in a faux leather, so I did. Boy did my fabric shift! I have no idea how you make it look so easy when you used the duck canvas. I tried that as well and my stitch gets all wonky because of the thickness. Anyways, I have done two, and the second one came out better but it is quite messy on the inside. Thank goodness, you don't see that. I would like to send you a picture of the finished product, but I need help as to how to do that. Thanks again for being such a good sewing teacher, keep up the good work, as I am learning sooo much!

Hi Jess! Love your tutorials.... I’ve been thinking about this wallet and it’s a must now. I use Gutermann thread and never have any issues in my Juki’s. I also use waterproof canvas in my bags and wallets. I love the structure it provides and that it doesn’t need to be interfaced. Not sure if you realize or not that the shiny, smooth like side is the wrong side; I thought you might have had it as the right side. Thank again for the great tutorial! :)

Guterman polyester is probably the best thread for most projects. It doesn’t break in the machine. I’ve always found it my go to thread...

For polyester all purpose sewing thread I like Gutermann. Consistently high quality and you can usually find it at JoAnn and other commercial stores.

I only sew with polyester thread, it’s colorfast and it’s stronger than cotton and is not as “fuzzy”, neither!! Exquisite brand has the tensile strength as regular sewing thread but also has the sheen desired for embroidery!!

  • @maryequilter31

Threads - strongly recommend both Aurifil & Superior threads. Both companies have educational info on their websites, extensive selections of thread types. Been a quilter for over 30 years, and have used both successfully , both cottons an polyesters, and some silks.

Great tutorial as always! I have always used the Coats & Clark brand polyester thread and like it, then again I haven’t tried any other brands, lol. One thing I noticed in the video when making the card slots is I believe you were sewing the wrong side of your waterproof canvas. The right side is the canvas side and the plasticky pvc side is the wrong side of the fabric. If you have the canvas side up you can iron the card slots and they’ll lay flatter for you.

    • @OklaRoots

I love all of your videos and am learning so much from you. But, if this whole CZcams/sewing/quilting thing doesn’t work out for you, I think you have an excellent future as a hand model. You have beautiful hands. (From one transplanted Oklahoman to another.)

One might consider incorporating a fabric that will protect against scanning the computer chips on credit cards and passports. It’s as thick as light vinyl. The video is excellent and looks like a great project.
