3 Reasons why Players and Creators QUIT GW2 | Guildwars 2 2024

  • Hey Guys,
    Here is my analysis on why the GW2 content scene, and why players decide to walk away from GW2. Though i have some pretty harsh criticisms of the game, know that i do enjoy and intend on continuing to create content and play the game. Unfortunately we cannot evaluate the game as what it should or could be, but what it is. I know i mentioned quite a few content creators here, and i dont have any ill will or judge how they decide to create content, I personally watch their videos and get their takes on various aspects of the game. Vallun's videos in particular helped me quite a bit when i was grinding sPVP.
    Hope you enjoyed the video.
    Cheers, and thanks for watching

    It just feels like the devs dont play their game... the new "content" (lack there of) is just so redundant.
    The new weapons were a literal joke.
    Raids and PVP are ignored and WVW has the worst community.
    Which sucks cause i love this game so much! I just wish something gets a good change to revitalize my hope for it 🙏

      this is a problem lot of games have. The people who first design it are competent and passionate, but they leave for new challanges or get fed up with the corporate culture that grows up around succesful IP, in any case, the people who take over dont know anything about games, and they dont even play the game they are supposed to be maintaining themselves. They just have a university degree and figured they would want to work on games herp derp. and the ceo is afk, he is already loaded, and too busy counting his money so he just hires the people that he like and dont ask questions. and then game just cruises into irrelevance from there on. have a nice day.

    I personally always have GW2 as my secondary MMO while rotating between many of the Triple A Vertical Progression MMOs.
    I feel GW2 is a great place to relax and play the game at your own pace. I play for the experiences that I have with other players.
    I feel as I have gotten older, the concept of GW2 is becoming more and more appealing as the years go by and having more commitments out of the game leads to certain games where your gear and stats are constantly improved upon every patch becomes more of a chore than enjoyment. I prefer Horizontal Progression a-lot now, especially since I have branched out to many other Genres of gaming, I love the pick up and play formulae that most new games tend to focus on. Love it or hate it, GW2 is here to stay, especially for people who love the MMO concept, but rather than chasing a number every patch, we play for the experiences. In comparison to your typical vertical progression MMOs, every new patch you are focused on one thing, quickly acquiring the highest Item Level gear. Every quest, dungeon, raid, world quest you do, you are thinking of the gear, you are tunnel visioned on that one goal, while you are completely ignoring the new content in-front of you.
    Even though GW2 has no gear progression, the ability to customize your build is quite amazing, sure if you want to maximize your DPS, there's only a handful of choices. You can choose to do harder content or stick with the more casual content. The beauty of GW2 is that you are rewarded for doing either. Now that the PvE Open World Legendary armor is released, players of all skill levels have access to the best gear in-game. Unlike in your typical Vertical Progression MMO where the best gear is locked behind difficult raids or pvp. Sure you can make counter arguments for each of these points, however what I'm trying to say is that GW2 gives all players an even playing field in terms of 'Power', the difference lies in your skill and dedication to the game, not some arbitrary number that is artificially increased every patch which leads players to be blinded to what's in-front of them.

    • @SilhouetteGaming1
      @SilhouetteGaming1  Před 3 měsíci

      This is definitely a great point, GW2 is largely scrutinized as the casual MMO, but it does cater to people who have limited playtime or prefer to play multiple games. It can be hard to break out of the grind grind grind mentality that other games of the genre push down your throat. I hope gw2 is here to stay, and maybe after a few years a GW3 would be nice if it's done right. At some point the backend will reach it's limits especially when you have games like BDO which are just visually stunning.

    Hey Silhouette!
    Was watching this and jumped in surprise when I heard my name . Great video, and wanted to throw my $0.02 in.
    So I streamed gw2 DAILY for years, and I recently cut back to streaming it once a week + new releases, primarily due to me getting gw2 burnout. Like you I basically had done everything, I still LOVE the game but I had done everything in it so I started branching out to other games as well.
    On the subject of $$ that you discussed, it will vary from creator to creator, but I can offer my own story if you are interested. I am/was doing well enough to support me, my wife, and my kid as a content creator and it was largely through my guild wars 2 audience but definitely not just through videos, but a combination of twitch, youtube, patreon, sponsorships, referral links, and other misc. Going to "variety" streaming was definitely a net loss money wise just because my audience shrank a bit, but it was good for my sanity, and the family is still fine. I'm a decently successful creator in the gw2 space and my videos are largely a labor of love, but they definitely couldn't support me/us full time on just those alone.
    To really drive this point home, some months I pay an editor more $ than I make from youtube that month. I really am only able to do it thanks to things like patreon.
    In terms of the game itself, I think I largely agree. Living world season 4 was my favorite story chunk of all of gw2 to date, and the amount of content in terms of maps and story in soto definitely pale in comparison to that (although I do enjoy convergences, strikes, and the new weapons).
    And yes, I also dislike the "fill the green bars" thing. >.

      Didn't know this would draw the presence of royalty. Thanks for taking your time to share with me. I've watched you quite a bit and I'm in a similar situation family wise (except kids are younger than yours) I really admired your transparency on the finances when all that twitch stuff came down, and figured you, teapot, and the likes were all more or less "done" with the game, and while in the short term losing some audience it will likely be better as it gives you growth opportunities in other markets. I am a one man show here, which will likely be the case indefinitely since I don't plan on scaling to the point that it would make sense. I hope my mention of you didn't offend-- it certainly wasn't my intention, in fact I have greater respect for all of the work content creators do regardless of the games they play. It means a lot to know that you decided to click on this video and give it a watch! I can now retire from youtube and GW2 in peace (Sike!).

    My guild and I quit for a few months now. I really miss playing with them but there's nothing new to do anymore, and whatever tiny amount of content they actually bother to add, it'll be terrible beyond belief. The only content I got to enjoy from SOTO was the endless rant with my guild. The tiny amount of story they add every patch gave us a few minutes to cry about the state of the game. Anet knows their community worships them and is using them to be complacent for years now. The fact that people celebrate how Cerus CM was released is frightening.
    We will always love gw2, but now its clear that like we love it way more than the devs do, and have for too long. The way I see it, it depends on how good the next expac looks but gw2 is reaching its end soon. At least there's gw3 in the works.

    I personally have a few problems with the game that weren't really touched on.
    1. Open world pve just boils down to blindly following a commander tag through an event train. (Same with WvW)
    2. The items constantly vomited into your inventory that have little or no value disgusts me. It's just spam clutter.
    3. Pvp has been abandoned since the game came out. Where is an arena game mode? Where is a new pvp map that doesn't revolve around "king of the hill" gameplay?
    4. Instanced pve content has a lot of gatekeeping going on. For a new player to try to learn they have to actively seek out the communities that teach new players or look up a ton of information to get the confidence to make their own group, and most people aren't willing to do that.
    The game has a strong foundation and does a lot of things well, but it really feels like arena net has abandoned this to put in as little effort possible while still being able to vacuum money out of players through the cash shop.

    • @SilhouetteGaming1
      @SilhouetteGaming1  Před 3 měsíci +4

      1, Yeah i get it, unfortunately zerging is usually the most efficient, i typically stick to map-comping or instanced PVE in most of my gameplay. 2, there is a problem with the way they use the inventory- i typically use jade salvage to minimize junk items and i still have to clear out random trophies or event items. 3, sPVP needs some love, in GW1 there was a large variety of game modes that people really enjoyed, id love to see an alliance battle system implemented (copium). 4, that is true to some degree, i managed to break into some scenes through LFG and using guides to teach me but that isnt everyones cup of tea so i get it.

    • @reikeon4826
      @reikeon4826 Před 2 měsíci +2

      1.) That people blindly follow commanders in open world and wvw is on them, you can choose at any point to not do that, and in fact, on most maps you don't need to anyway.
      2.) Actually most items have value, little, sure, the game for the most part is going the route of many little rewards than can be used towards a bigger goal of your choice rather than a big random drop, which do exist as well.
      3. Yeah PvP is abandoned, its a failed part of the game and Anet seems to have decided to not further invest into it. Fair enough in my opinion.
      4. There is a lot of gatekeeping but you got to consider that people with limited time, that went trough trainings and misery and just want their content to get done and not teach others have a fair point in asking for experienced groups as well. Theres actually quite a good amount of guilds that will take newbies and show them the ropes, but what I'm not really seeing is newbies just taking a little initiative, getting together with other newbies and learning the content by themselves. It's always whining that others don't take them by the hand and offer them their time and patience for really, nothing.

    • @fernaxv
      @fernaxv Před 2 měsíci +1

      Its nice you recognize its a PERSONAL problem.. i get it, you may not be alone but just consider this:
      1. Open world is massive, depending on the meta train you can do 10-15 maps, of the 58 available, not to touch on the matter than clearly a meta train only moves 10inches from the waypoint (thats without using a tp to friend). If thats your "Open world" experience, you are missing a lot (heck Athis have so many videos about open word, even "how amazing this rock looks!"). As fow WvW, there are entire builds designed for roamind and dueling, they wont follow a tag, again, you are missing content.
      2. Most items can be used to craft something usefull, ofc you dont need to care about crafting everything, but maybe someone else wants those Chak Eggs you have roting in there.. As a tip, you can slot an invis bag to throw unidentified stuff plus some shit you have around, so when you salvage all they wont be destroyed.
      3. There were stuff, but i get your fair point there.
      4. Imagine being on the other side, 2500 LI and a fresh randomly gets the shield when Xera is at 6% (all die and restart). Today the rooster isnt that demanding of KP (except on reset maybe), so do your part, watch a guide on yt for 5mins and you are set to go.. you can do IBS EASY 3 without a guide at all!! Or join a discord or pve community guild, most exp players dont care about explaining stuff to newcomers, just dont expect a high end group, were we know what the other 9 will do without looking to be as inclusive as a teaching room.. even when i was the one learning it make sense in my mind.
      Sry if i sound rough, its not my intention to be harsh, but to make clear that you are missing a lot of experiences for your own good!! Its an amazing game, full of stuff to do, time to sink and friends to make.. dont miss on a wonderful experiences just because Anet didnt hold your hand through it, eventually, with some luck, you'll see my point.

    As a player, the title is offputting. But surprisingly, this is a good insight. Especially about viewership and content creators. It is indeed concerning.
    However I have a different take regarding horizontal progression. Because of that, you can step away from the game, for years, then come back to find out, your gears and build are still relevant. It doesn't force you to play. There's no endless race to being the top dps. Whereas on other mmo, there's always this need to catch up with the meta. Take a few months away and you'll fall off.

      Yeah, except in guild wars you get power crept in different ways. You come back after a 5 year break and all of a sudden you can't travel any maps efficiently to keep up with other players. The best builds are now locked behind expansion release classes or items. And don't get me started on the endless amounts of specific map currencies....

      I think it is fine for a few months, i started playing this game back at launch and i was Active Duty at the time, was able to go on deployments or do long weekends away without feeling like i was missing much. I would actually have my wife log into my account and click my log in rewards when i was away so i wasnt "missing out". anything outside of major content releases is kinda iffy. The Skyscale really changed things up, but even then its easier to get now with "Return to" achievements and SOTO. for me i dont have much time to play, so a slow content release is okay for me. I dont really have enough time to get value out of a 15/mo subscription either.

      @@XAn0nymousX0 ofcourse you'll be somehow "left out" if you take a break for years. but what mmo doesnt? they will release new contents so its inevitable. It just differ as to what extent. maybe if you took a break before mounts, that's alot to take in. But you didnt have to farm for new gears or new levels just to jump back at other contents like fractals, wvw or pvp right? I took a break for 3 years and went back this year for EoD and SoTo. Sure I dont have the jade bot and turtle mount but I was able to jump right back in at T4 Fractals and WvW as support and Strikes as DPS with no problem using my old ascended builds. Good video, you wake up my DoomerGirl side! but you are right, pretty much on everything. While I am not a dedicated CZcamsr and my focus is a website platform I know the struggles of it. (I use youtube to lead traffic there, 2 channels actually)
    Ultimately it's Anet management fault, wasted resources on bad marketing for years and sadly it keeps happening, as someone who had a glimpse from inside I did understand many things and if you really want to survive as content creator you need to use GW2 as start and drift to cover other MMOs.
    GW2 is now a seasonal game so people play new stuff and leave, then come back when a new patch lands, and while that cadence is now faster it is also shorter so it ends being the same or even worst. The player retention is gone, and it's not just new content what is needed, even just balance in the right way would help a lot and this is affecting WvW the most right now.
    Most of the veterans who keep making GW2 content are just passionate about the game but sadly Arenanet management choose to keep ignoring the creators who really care and caters to the wrong minority.
    I have to admit I am surprised by your content, I assumed it was a more negative style (due to the doomer avatar xD) but you are doing pretty good, this is smart talk and reality, I subscribed :)

    Class bias is indeed strong af in this game lately.
    - Necros is the only class that is allowed to strip boons and serves as universal "band aid" to boon spam that both WvW and SPvP have. And no, for some reason other classes can't have it.
    - Then there is the ranger, ever since it has stopped being a meme post-HoT, it rolls in some ridiculous braindead low skill build, always at least ONE either a node holder or literal frigging ERASER. It's the only class that hit me for 32k 1v1 on WvW in 7 years.
    - Somehow permadaze on mesmers and mindlock is still a good thing in Anet's eyes.
    - Stealth still desynchs if the target pops out for too short in lots of cases.
    God forbid either war or rev get a build that could compare to top cancer that roams both modes. Instead - get fucked by class that can throw skills at you without looking at you, because that makes sense.
    Rant off.

    I agree pretty much on all the points you brought up. I'm myself still confused that raids got dropped for strikes and even Grouch mentioned it once in Teapot's stream that they look at metrics/statistics on what is popular in the game or not and while this was a year or two ago, Grouch said that at the time raids seemed to be less popular. But to me strikes also feel really bare bones sometimes, not to mention lot of mechanics can be just... totally ignored, but issue is, if they make it too complicated (aka the easiest baby mode mechanics from FF14 and such) then people will complain, because a lot of casual people have barely learned the basics of the game, because they never needed it.
    To me the game is fundamentally broken by the old "promises" aka no raids and what not, then still making them. Raids in WoW/FF14 etc work well, and can expect players to get into them and learn, because its there since the start and caters that playstyle of the game while telling a story. But GW2 was just like "F that, anyone can do what they want" and now it really feels like they regret that decision from the start. Since they don't go back to old content and change them (I still hope that one team they have for past content fixes will do it tho) not much will change, some people doesn't even know raids exist in the game. It was always a weird change to me from GW1, considering there was actual "hard" content in GW1 and the game is still more punishing for being an "idiot" or making bad builds, but in GW2 you can make bad builds and have absolute nonsensical gear/stats and still do well for PvE... until these people hits group content, where they get 'punished' not by the game, but by the people who they join.
    Been with the franchise post prophecies release, love the game, just as much as you are on both as well. On the creator side, I'm on a very niche part with memes and sh*tposts, occasionally "haha funneh guides" that still tries to be educational, it's insanely hard to grow (though that's also because of how the algorithms been influenced by lot of kids these years, needing faster content release and shorter video times) compared that I've been here as an "OG" youtuber for GW2 too, while back in the days we had more meme creators, like Shampoo as well, now it feels a bit sad that it's practically me and Laranity around doing random entertaining vids, thought some creators show up here and there with random memes. Kinda 'sad' to see that everyone has to pump out educational/guide videos constantly to be relevant and get engagement. I'm myself still surprised am around and still relevant lol, but I will last until the game last anyway.
    As for avoiding burnout myself, it's one of the reasons I do actually enjoy GW2 for, it doesn't shackle you, I can play whatever games I feel like playing beside it without having this dreaded feel of "welp... am wasting by sub aka money not playing it non-stop". Overall glad to see someone else with very similar thoughts and perspective as me, without unnecessarily doom and gloom or rage over the game being "sh*t"

      Noxxi! I definitely know who you are lol. As you could probably tell I do visit reddit quite a bit and have seen quite a few of your videos, particularly enjoyed the "RaLly To mE AsCaLoNianS!" Fractal video. As a novice video editor (literally started with Power Director 17 for first 20 videos before moving to Capcut) I definitely respect the time it takes to put together some of those memes. The days of "red vs blue" with a funny script and /talk memes are over. I used to try to incorporate memes in a lot of my build guides, and used a handful of them to break up my analytical monologuing in this video.i ultimately moved away from using memes as openers because of engagement analytics. i do feel like guides are important for any game, but at a game this age there's only so much spin we can put on a particular guide. I started creating mostly due to my limited playtime and have found myself having significantly less play time because of it lmao (instead of an hour a day I play just to get B-roll for whatever my /next/ video is going to be about). In some cases this works out, introducing me to new builds and so on. But ultimately I wanted to engage with the community at a larger scale. I did consider including Laranity in my creator mentions, however the people I did mention were more in line with people I actually watch or have kept up with up to this point, which I am very glad nobody seems to have taken offense to their mentions. Thanks for taking the time to write your comment, I've read quite a bit of your posts and am grateful you took the time to share your thoughts with me here. PvP and "welp... am wasting by sub aka money not playing it non-stop" were the only 2 bad things about WoW before Blizzard became Blizztard. It's a big relief when you jump games and suddenly you do daily stuff because you want to and not because "the sub can't go to waste, right?" Now after 4+ years and also getting a job I am sometimes too lazy to even do dailies and I am just losing on some gold plus the WV currency.

    I couldn't agree more about the community going too easy on Anet. It's like Stockholm syndrome or something. As someone who's part of multiple mmorpgs communities, it baffles me how this company managed to enchant its audience and get away with so much dubious, sometimes borderline scummy shit. And, of course, when people call them out, the rest of the community will dogpile you and say that you're the reason why the CMs/GMs won't interact with people and why the company has such poor communication with the players generally speaking. It's insane.

    • @okbuddykormir

      GW2 community is heavily censored, that's part of the reason why. I think there are a lot of people who are critical of Anet but there's nowhere for them to express that. CZcams's probably one of the few places where you can still say what you want but all the big creators are held by the balls through the Anet partner program so they can't get too critical either.
      A lot of people cling to an image of Anet that's 15 years outdated and Anet's very careful with maintaining it. That's why they wall themselves off from the community, except for 2-3 devs they put on for show every now and then.

    Longtime franchise player here and I completely agree with your assessment of the state of things. A friend of mine and I tried, unsuccessfully, for probably 2ish years to bring over a group of our friends, maybe 15 or so people. This was maybe... 5 years ago. EVERY one of them who came over were like those Reddit posts you had highlighted. They were all veteran gamers, but were completely lost on how to move through the game's content. My fellow vet friend and I had a guild with an upgraded hall for them, talked them through beginner basics, gave advancement, build, and gearing tips, brought them through fractals, ran story instances, and on and on, and still, they ALL bailed after anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months playing.
    And now, I can't even remotely justify ever making the attempt to do that again, because at least back then as you pointed out, there was a decent, substantial structure to the game's releases and the xpacs had a ton of content. The ridiculously inconsistent release windows, dropped/neglected narrative hooks, plot points, characters, and the abandoned game modes have just left me feeling ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Even my vet friend has bailed, it's just me, everyone else is in FFXIV.

      @dimitarivanov8864 There are some creators that jump on any bit of news or updates regarding the game for some easy views. It ends up being the same video with different flavors. I don't want to say I don't care about viewership or growing my channel, but I'm not concerned about min-maxing my views or ad impressions, which some creators (not necessarily in the GW2 space) definitely seem to do. I ultimately started making content because I enjoyed listening to takes about the state of the game or community, TEATIME was in the weekly rotation and I thought it was cool that people were interested in talking about the game in a more /meta/ sense, instead of just crunching numbers or gawking over xyz skins.

    GW2 has always succeeded despite Anet's best attempts at sabotaging it.
    At its core it's genuinely one of the most fun and well made games out there, but it feels like it's managed by a company that doesn't even want to make games anymore.
    I think every problem with GW2 can be traced back to deeper cultural problems at Anet which started around 2010, like being allergic to anything competitive. Competition's fun and drives engagement but they view it along with difficulty and self-improvement as something "toxic".
    To put the game back on track you'd need to fix Anet, and nobody in management has the balls to do it right now (or worse, they are actively part of the problem). People in the community who try to shut down any form of criticism or negative press just let Anet be even more complacent and take us for granted which is ultimately bad for GW2, so I appreciate honest videos like this a lot. And who knows, maybe one day Colin will take Anet back to its roots and deliver the KINO.. we'll see.

  • @LadyKitty
    @LadyKitty Před 3 měsíci +3

    Kitty's not mentioned in this video but as a buildcrafter and guide/meme creator (and lots of gameplay on builds that elitists wouldn't want you to hear about), she's also effectively quit. A bit similar reasoning as shown here but guess she could go into some detail.
    2. As someone interested in instanced content, there's been too little content in recent years for Kitty to do much that she hadn't done already in her almost 1k videos (well, instanced stuff she could do on less-than-optimal builds without being insta-kicked). And recent content releases just haven't been to her taste. On top of relic fiasco (recently fixed but too late), SotO story started so boring and Kitty doesn't like the visuals that she hasn't got to 2nd map even. Also, though they have indeed worked quite a bit on bringing good bunch of "useless" weapons to borderline viability, there's still work to do. But big issue Kitty's had for a while is that the powercreep has also made many builds just viable enough for Kitty to dare to play to become completely unable to compete even if Kitty played them to 98% efficiency. But even if they got balance completely fixed now, it'd still be too late for Kitty as...
    3. ...as someone playing on NA, there's just not many opportunities for recording videos anymore as raid and strike LFG have been completely dry of any life when Kitty's logged in a couple times. They say that NA peoples have moved on to discords but those aren't usually fans of having the runs recorded and published (even though Kitty doesn't show names in her videos/logs and she'd mute any possible audio) so...no can do.
    And another thing is that even though it's clear that Kitty's educated opinions on buildcrafting aren't popular (though she can justifiedly say she's been right on bunch of stuff), she isn't the most skilled (lady o' too many builds) and her personality isn't easy to deal with, the amount of flak she's got from certain parts of the endgame community and esp. some going very personal does outweigh the support she's had from other parts. GW2 community is generally pretty wholesome but...some loud minority to ruin it. Just...too much is too much.
    And finally, is content creation worth it? In GW2, unless you're a streamer making either good-yet-short guides or memes for casual players or just have a really interesting personality and on top of any of those also have socials/extra content outside videos/streams, Kitty would say "no" on most cases. (Kitty's not a streamer, her guides have been too long made for too niche content, thus not many views on them, and she's a rather boring personality so...she learned the hard way.)
    Even though GW2 is currently in top 3 among MMORPGs, for a creator its bane is its lack of presence in and out of internet and if the game can't create and maintain hype around it, it's hard to ride on its wake unless you're a good enough creator and grinding hard to create the hype by yourself. Though then again, Arenanet is a small studio with extremely limited resources compared to its competitors.
    For an altoholic casual player, GW2 may be a good choice due to superb QoL, alt-friendliness (required by design), extremely open living world, most versatile (yet player/efficiency-shoehorned) build system and smoothest combat.
    But for better story, instanced content, housing, gathering+harvesting and many other things (though with older-school combat and quests, limited build variety, total alt unfriendliness and sub fee if you buy Shadowbringers expansion, current free trial is up to level 70 with Stormblood recently added in, similar limitations as GW2 free trial)...there's the other big MMORPG that Kitty totally doesn't play these days and won't name here (ahem...FFXIV...ahem).

      @andresguevera, I agree that having four levels plus challenge mode as a fifth level for Raids and Strikes would be a great idea, as it would allow Anet to create harder content, but give players a ramp to work their way up and learn at a lower pace. This would get way more players into RAIDs and make it worthwhile for Anet to make new RAIDs. Having the lower levels for everything would allow Anet to make the challenge mode versions truly challenging for the try hard players, which might help retain more veteran players. It wouldn’t be a terrible amount of work to create these additional levels of difficulty to all existing RAIDs and Strike Missions.

I got back this year and i feel there are much more players as in 2022 when i started. Yesterday i played some dungeons, and the dungeon lfg was very populated. I see people on griffons and skyscale all the time, but yesterday i got my griffon, it took 3 days. And in this 3 days a lot of the achivements i managed to finish with the help of other players like me, that were at this stage of the game. I was surpised to see soo much people not having flying mount in 2024. Today a group of more than 10 people were shooting bugs in Lions Arch for the convertor achivement. And i remembered when i did it, more than 2 years ago. In RIBA a guy was so excited finding out about the salvage omatics, it got all the squad into a nostalgia trip, everybody remembering the time when they were mew to the game.

GW2 esports died because of a lack of interest, and pvp became a barren wasteland due to anet abandonment and the toxic community. I played this game for 15k hours. I will always remember the magic of the big meta events maps and how enjoyable used to be. Now, maybe because more and more to do, those events lack the same popularity. Also, many of old events were build for some stats and for no mounts. The power creep classes nowdays and the mount make you to go through content in open world without feeling it really. Most people do not even get to see most of mechanics. Getting the magic out of the content i once loved and making it just a rudimentary currency farming (that i dont even need anymore so much) make the game souless. As souless are the last stories of the game that were made like just to have a story. And many times i felt that they tried to make you think that it is Something big but since a point they rush it like to end the suffering faster (or to replace the lack of investment and effort they want to put in it). Another point is lack of the investment in pvp/ wvw content. In wvw they still have 2 maps that are just copy pasted. They had so many years do add a new map. They did not. So no contribution to that content and bad contribution to pvp. From long story and interesting raids, we just have recicle bosses from the story with some extra mechanics. The game become cheap since the end of pof. And the magic that the maps used to have and the way they fely so alive, dissapeared. It was my favourite mmo. But let s be honest, a big contribution for why i barely log in today is the balances patches that occur so often, that sometimes change the way i play or nerf my favourite class like telling me to always play something else after i did some effort to learn my stuff and got attached to my class and my playstyle. This make me dont wanna play at all. At least not something more competitive or end content.

      Literally THIS, I love mounts and they're executed perfectly in the game but they really ruined the exploration aspect of the game, you just see people rush through the map from one point of view to another, from an event to another. All the maps feel so incredibly small is lifeless because of it. It doesn't really feel like an MMO anymore.

      @@przemisio1 where do I think the mounts work pretty fine are the new maps builded up for them, like the Soto maps, or even the very big pof desert maps. The problem is with the maps that were not built for them. Recently someone I know started to play gw2 and I am glad she did not buy the expansions as she can explore how it is supposed. You know, all that jumping and puzzles. Even me, the one that always hated jps, started to appreciate some so much now. Well, at least, many of them interdict mounts. Still, i think mounts should just work in the maps for which they were made for. Like in raids. Some raids are made to work for mounts, some not, so in some they dont work at all.

    Some high water mark PvE content is, I think, great. I personally spent months clearing the first three ultimate fights in FFXIV.
    But, 1500 people total, with only 40 in world first race, is…. Even by the standards of that kind of halo content that’s a clear indication that it’s massively overtuned.

      Yeah.. that number includes a significant amount of bought titles as well. Some of the easier CM titles are like 3%-5% but with a sample size of 400k it's still pretty abysmal. On NA servers you see CM runs in lfg once and a while only.

      I recall seeing the numbers on UWU and over 10% of the playerbase have cleared it. Those are really good numbers on difficult endgame content, even if UWU is the easiest one. I'd imagine that TOP and DSR are below 5% or something though. Especially TOP.

    • @snowdropfox5754
      @snowdropfox5754 Před 3 měsíci +2

      That's a structural problem though and I don't know why that wasn't brought up in the video. FFXIV forces you do to dungeons and somewhat 'difficult' content iirc during the story progression. In GW2 you can literally never step into a single dungeon or any piece of content that requires more than pressing 1 and you will experience 90% of the game regardless.
      If you don't push the players, most will never go that route (and why should they, if they can achieve the same result with less input - obviously)

    • @piedpiper1172
      @piedpiper1172 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@snowdropfox5754 Strictly in terms of story, I wouldn’t say FFXIV asks any more of its players than GW2.
      Nothing with any challenge beyond the most basic capacity to move and use a small portion of your kit is required in FFXIV’s story.
      But, it does have a pretty clear difficulty progression (normal - savage - ultimate) where each step is many times harder than the previous one.
      The bigger issue, imo, is that neither game has a means of communicating to players that they have room to improve. You get no feed back aside from the binary of fail/clear. This means a player can clear everything the first time-and therefore reasonably think themselves competent-but still be performing at less than 30% of their potential.
      The most dedicated players use external tools (which often themselves require frequent updating and maintenance) to figure that out.
      I’m not saying every MMO should have a built in dps meter that’s constantly comparing everyone to everyone. But even something as simple as a red-yellow-green icon that tells you if you are below, at, or above say, the 40-60% range of all prior players of your class on that content. Just any feedback. Doesn’t even have to be tied to rewards beyond the little light telling you “good job.”

      Not only that, but I feel that the challenging content is kind of lackluster when it comes to rewards. Don't get me wrong. The feeling of overcoming a foe is great but in the end, once you did it, it's over. It will become a feeling of the past. GW2 is a game mostly about fashionable items and such and I would love to see MORE reasons to repeat content like raids and strikes and not only for a petty title or an infusion. More area themed armor sets or whatever they can come up with to get more people into achieving things. Can be gated behind achievements or something and should definitely NOT be purchasable. More incentives to be active would be nice as Legendaries and End Game stuff is the only thing it has going for it in the end...

    I’ve been playing GW2 about 2 years now and I would say I’m a pretty casual player like the game caters to. Most of my time in the game has been in the open world. I’ve played the whole story through all the living world chapters and expansions, I’ve gotten 100% map completion on every map, and I even crafted a legendary weapon.
    Now, finally I’ve started dipping my toes into end game group content, as well as some WvW. Here’s the problem though - nothing in game helps teach or push players towards playing the more challenging content. You might know that it’s out there, but if it wasn’t for my own desire to learn and a guild with players who wanted to teach me, I might have never taken the leap.
    This, combined with the incredibly overwhelming amount of items, materials, and currencies, that basically makes me need to play the game with the wiki open at all times, really makes it hard for casual players to get out of their comfort zone and see everything the game has to offer.
    And on a random note, I hate SOTO and I hope Skyscale content is a thing of the past after this. The mid-air combat involving shooting fire balls and dashing through objects feels so clunky to me.

    • @DraconasTenZHG
      @DraconasTenZHG Před 2 měsíci

      The idea of giving skyscale a fireball imo is very cool but I agree with you - it's clunky as fuck. The crosshair is a single white pixel, it should be bigger. Very often I don't even see the fireballs themselves because I have a fixed camera and the dragon is obscuring it. Combine it with dumbass hitboxes for some world bosses like in SOTO meta 2 where the game tells you you MUST shot the boss with fireballs and you don't see WHERE you are shooting and you don't see the damage numbers either. It's like a vanilla world boss. You shot somewhere around the target points and aren't even sure if you are hitting it.
      Also there's some really badly balanced achievements but nothing is ever going to be worse than WvW achievements and I have already dealt with the fact this game isn't 100%-able but I still enjoy doing achievements if they are designed well.

    Interesting watch! GW2 s still compared to WoW, ESO, FF14 etc, which are all AAA studios. The audience though similar, does vary wildly.
    There is a lot of other content created around GW2 that also doesnt get seen by a ton of folx that I and others take in. Art, podcasts (Lightbringers cough cough ;D - invite in the mail!), comedy videos, WvW content, etc are pretty popular as well.
    Laranity for example, streams GW2 mostly is doing pretty well as someone that is full time in creation, and does so around the community they formed. I agree in part with a lot of what youre saying, but the game vs the AAA is in a pretty good state, including having one of their best population spikes last year in its existence. I think the game is appealing less to folx that create content and maybe more to the folx that want a casual experience, with the option of being more dedicated (raids etc).
    Also final point; with the new CM worlds first we saw more players/viewers than with the recent drops schedule, which is huge! Hopefully we see more strike related CM world first events for sure!

    Regarding the horizontal vs vertical progression topic, I'm more surprised that players of other mmo's haven't caught on to the fact that all of their 'vertical' progression is completely fake. In every wow and FFXIV expansion, player damage increases at the same rate as enemy hp does. Not only that, but both games have recently had massive stat squishes because the damage numbers were getting so high that they were in danger of overflowing their data types.
    On the other hand, I'd argue that GW2's mastery system actually IS vertical progression for your account. Your damage might not be increasing, but all of the movement options and extra rewards and abilities are all useful bits and bobs that add up to some very significant advantages. I also think that unlocking masteries is much more meaningful than getting higher item level gear in a different game.
    To the overall theme, I think mmo's as a genre are uniquely bad at providing stream/video content. FFXIV content creators all explode when doing the story and then viewership falls off a cliff the moment they catch up. WoW content has mostly been dominated by hardcore or season of discovery stuff lately, with a sprinkling of mythic tournaments and such, but that's all propped up by how huge that game was and still is. Old school runescape has the best content in the mmo space in my opinion, but that's only possible because of how sandboxy that game is and how many different kinds of interesting challenges lend to storytelling.
    The gw2 content space just doesn't have the components needed for channels to thrive. We're not gonna see a gw2 Nobbel because there isn't as much lore and it's not convoluted enough. We're not gonna see a gw2 Settled because the game doesn't have enough sandbox elements to make such challenges. We're not gonna see a gw2 Xaryu because the game doesn't provide an interesting hardcore experience. We're not gonna see gw2 mount-offs or transmog competitions because there aren't that many armor/mount skins and most you just buy with gold or gems.
    For me, the game is simply more fun to play than to watch. And when I'm burnt out on the game, I just poke in every once in a while to read elementalist patch notes.

    if anyone wants to do content creation full time, there is more money to be made covering other popular games. i'd safely assume that a majority of people who make gw2 content do so because they enjoy the game👾
    in fact, i plan to make even more gw2 content because quite simply, i think the game is fantastic. sure it has it's flaws, but a way for me to enjoy gw2 more is actually taking time to try out other MMOs on the market. it's made me realize how good the combat system in gw2 is and the horizontal progression system actually respects my time🙏🏻

    100% agree with your comments. I play for fun, to chat with friends and do a "small" amount of grinding. If it's a big grind I'm not interested (new Legendary armor is not on my list too much grind) I have fun mapping new characters, farming for mats to make things I like. Example instead of fooling with the stupid grind called Legendary I crafted 7 Legendary Runes for stat swapping, using Ascended armor then throwing in the mystic toilet if I need to change a top level armor stat. But I'll be honest I like to use the Berserker stats then play with the runes and weapons. I do have all Gem 1 Legendries along with double weapons that can be used in both hands, pistol, dagger, mace, etc.
    It would be nice to go for the Legendary but I'm not willing to spend the time grinding. And like you I started with GW1 and did the Beta for GW2 and I'm still here. I don't do raids or Strikes. I have done all Dungeons back in the day but even with the introduction of Strikes there is too much venom from others if you don't know all the rotations. As I'm sure you can tell I like to enjoy my playing of the game without stressing so I'm in favor of toning down Strike Missions and even raids for new players to play, enjoy and learn the mechanics without get cursed for not already knowing how they work. Remember GW1 let you choose difficulty on some experiences and even fractals don't require 1000 AR (total (exaggeration but you get it) and you can have fun it Tier 1 or 2 with little to no grind.

The potential is huge! Imagine Fire Elemental but you have a multiple subgroups of focused people trying to clear a DPS check, mechanics that can wipe people, mini fire elemental adds with breakbars - you get the idea.
    Particularly with the introduction of obsidian legendary armor, they could tie the reward track for Open World CM bosses into obtaining the new armor sets.

    I left most MMOs like WoW, to gw1 and gw2, because there are no raids.
    GW2 has raids, but its not important to do them. You can do them and get all rewards and never do them again.
    And that is why I like GW1 and GW2, you are not forced to play raids.
    In WoW you ALWAYS have to play raids, and if you don't you do nothing else, you have to gear up, and only raids allow that, you can play pvp mini games but the gear is never the same as if you raid.
    GW2 you don't always have to get gear, you don't always have to raid. You can PvP, WvW, story, pve, and world bosses, so much content everyday.

      I suppose EoD felt a little better to me because i was invested in its characters and i wanted to know what happens. I'm not very invested in the new SotO crew. we haven't been through the fires together so I really don't care about them.

    Split raid wings into separate strike missions per boss. Remove bots from spvp & pve (necros massed in living world mob spawns…..). Possible adopt an arpg season format for skins & unique rewards. Rework older world bosses, some are really lame in 2024. New fractals + Fractal God rework. A bit like quiet quitting your 9-5 job because you have no other way to stay employed- so you do what works and play it out safe, doing the bare minimum to stay sustainable. Maybe they lost irreplacable talents in season 4 after the layoff wave and the new people aren't that invested in the franchise or have to be trained on an engine that does not help them in their future gamedev career resume-so why go the extra mile? I have 1200 hours + on my gw2 account, 2 reasons come to my mind why would i or anyone quit the game :
    1 - Graphics : no matter how Anet tries to squeeze the juice out of their engine, even in recent expansions, the game looks old, animation aren't polished, sound and music too, don't get me wrong, if we were in 2012-2018 it will be ok, now in 2024, i don't think so.
    2 - Classes/Professions design and gameplay : gw2 has some of the weird class system in the MMORPG genre, it has some positive aspect ( like absence of the holly trinity tank, healer, dps, which is great and easy to find groups) however the game pushes you to play different professions, and some are very weird like hammer elementalist, staff warrior, pistol necro, they went way too far with this that it doesn't make sense anyone, people chose a class for a playstyle, if you force me to use a weapon on a class that i like, i won't like it anymore, plus some class feels waay outdated than the other, for exemple, revenant feels very well polished in comparison to warrior, playing warrior is like playing 2000s game.
    To summarize, gw2, if you give it a chance, will give you way more hours to waste than what you ask for, it is in fact a good game and a great MMO with the best monetizing system in the genre, in fact i haven't logged in the game from 2017 to 2024, 7 years without logging in, and once i did my gear was viable for every instance in the game, and my account value didn't drop a dim, plus 10 to Anet for maintien such a solid economy and inflation free.
    I just they rework their graphic and classes.
    Peace.
