Hey that's me! | FR Tho, this is a really good idea for a vid. And sorry for the inc. essay, people can read if they like I guess. | But I think it highlights both one of the biggest Weaknesses&Strengths of this game & that's *It's not your typical mmo and it's also 10 years old, but still quite good.* Meaning that there's about 9 different directions, (including everything from WvW Roaming, to RP-ing, to Hardcore Raiding, that a new player could conceivably be pointed even before level 80,) that you wanted even know exist/you'll like or not because the tutorial kinda sucks. e.g. I didn't really know I cared about WvW until I realized that was where all the real build flexibility is. (And there's quite a bit!)
Imo, I don't really have a solution for this other than ANet enhancing Guild Tools so us guild leaders can build healthy places where new people are rewarded for being in a community + have someone they can just shake and say "How tf do I do X?" or Creators just independently making 1m video shorts going "Heythisishowyouwvw,getthesethings,dothisokenjoy!" because everyone has ADHD now and asking someone to watch through a 10 minute video is like asking them to hold up Mount Olympus. But knowing that said directions exist at all, via more meaningfully rewarding / drawing people's attention to *helpful* adventure-guide-ish-popups would be a great start! Maybe these tutorials could dump out mystic coins or raw gold or something the first time an account does them. 😁
Hey man thanks for stopping by. I think that you're spot on, and like you I do love this game, I found your channel from YT recommendstions and dig the laid back style you have, and it's clear you are actually having fun when you're roaming and explaining things.
On the note of creation and editing styles- the ADHD technique used by Mr.Beast and so on is called "retention editing" which is tedious to accomplish and annoying for anyone who isn't 16 years old. Longer form videos that actually flush out the topics are what I prefer and if it means slower growth than so be it.
As for the what Anet could do, I've long since stopped speculating on that. The spaghetti code is fully marinated, I think most games favor the "get more rewards" aspect of achievements which is a great idea- but I think building an effective culture around game modes is equally important.

@@SilhouetteGaming1 If it gives you any solace, partially because YTs population has aged up a bit' there's a couple trends suggesting that more chill / longform videos are becoming equally as, or at the very least, more popular (than they used to be,) again. So keep at it! It's clearly working!

hi! what are your thoughts on engineer for newbies, is it easy to build a group around that class or no?

Im curious how you're going to tackle crafting if at all and the hurdles involved in getting started (money, bag space, bank space, etc). Most of my friends were initially impressed by the depth of the items used in crafting but almost all of them have quit before they were able to craft their first ascended item or level 80 sigil or rune.
I will be, I actually leveled a character from 0-80 with just crafting before so I'm familiar with it.

Shooting for weekly with additional an unrelated video sometime in between zero to hero videos. I'm a one man show so it can be challenging to balance everything.
can't wait for the time you discuss strikes/raids. I'm fairly new to the game and I'm kinda hesitant to try out 10 man content. I kinda enjoy doing fractals though
Strikes and raids are nothing to be scared of, just need to know how to build the right groups.

Something that really stands out to me is the difference in perspective. I simply didn’t know about guild exp bonuses, so I didn’t feel any special motivation to join one.
I did encounter a surprising lack of people reacting to new accounts-it always seems you can’t go 30 minutes in EVE or FFXIV on a new account without comment.
But, I did find a guild “organically.” One of the earliest challenges I encountered on my account was mastery points, which lead me to looking through the Tyria masteries, which inevitably leads to the Tequatil and Triple Trouble sections.
At my very first Triple Trouble I encountered the community of guilds that have assigned time slots to host and organize the event. The one that hosted my event actively sought to recruit, and so I joined. (I met EVOS, but there are several others).
Once in my TT guild, I quickly met more players and was recruited to an organized WvW fight guild. I’m also now part of a start-up fractal group.
So, at Triple Trouble is at least one place the GW2 community is great at “catching” new players and onboarding them into the more active community.

Re “Maps in Order.” I generally did the Shiverpeaks maps to 100% in order as I reached them. This occasionally meant I was slightly out of synch on the adventure guide.
Overall, I liked the adventure guide. It taught me about world bosses, /wiki et, etc.

There is another perspective gap: As I’ve moved through content sequentially, I haven’t reached strikes yet. Though I suspect my account is mature enough now that it won’t pose a gear challenge-I actually finished my full ascended berserker set yesterday.
I also think that many new player guides under estimate how accessible crafting ascended armor actually is for new players.
It’s about 30g to level tailor to 500. With Wizard Vault giving away 3 armor pieces, vision crystals, and raw gold in heaps, you can just place buy orders for the sub components and quickly pound out a full set of armor.
Similarly, WV makes laurels pretty trivial to acquire enough for an amulet. Guild Missions give enough tokens to pick up about an accessory per week. Ofc, rings are easy as pie thanks to fractals. I actually solo’d several of the early fractals to get the mastery point without holding groups up. I’m confident literally anyone can clear the first 5-10 fractals with nearly any other 4 people and get easy pristine relics for their first ascended rings.

Re: unlocks pace / feel. Though I eventually used one of my level 80 tokens to skip from 70 to 80, I did that mostly just for the free celestial exotic set. I have, overall, found that the unlock pace is extremely nice and gives a pseudo-vertical progression experience.
I learned what utilities were, then I really appreciated having my elite, then I looked forward to training unlocks. As I did all the Tyria hero points that didn’t quite give me enough to fully unlock Reaper.
It was only once I finished LW1 & 2 and entered HoT that I finally found the much more fun 10 point HP challenges. After a few tries I solo’d three of them and unlocked Chill to the Bone, which was such a fantastic power fantasy upgrade.
Similarly, I just last night collected my 250th Jade Heroic and got the weapon mastery book. So I can now use pistol and torch!!! I learned that though Chill Nova has a 3s internal cool down, if it spreads chill to a second target, that target has its own CD, so I can live the pistol magician fantasy of quickly target swapping my shots to spam crits and novas on both of them. I am really looking forward to getting off hand sword to go with the pistol.

Re: The feel of playing on an account without everything unlocked for the first time.
I never felt walled-I was always able to complete any hero point on my own within 3-4 tries (Temple of Balthazar got me before I realized I could use the jump mushrooms to evade his fire floor attack. Poison bacon also took two tries and the use of one of the free regen foods story progression gave me). I had no problems killing the 4 legendaries in silverwastes for their mastery points, all big map metas have had plenty of people-though my first mouth of Mordremoth I didn’t have leyline gliding yet, so that was rough. Motivated me to go do that mastery!
I’ve never felt like I couldn’t do the next step, nor that there wasn’t an obvious next step. I just keep working my way down the story list, and it has organically opened me to all sorts of content. The Mastery system is truly excellent for this-it motivates you to go pick up points, so suddenly you’re learning about TT and Fractals or side adventures and even truly hidden exploration mastery points.
I’m at ~450 hours now. The raptor is still my only mount. I have 2.3 full ascended sets, personal fractal 47, WvW rank 70 ish (this is very slow since I transferred servers-though new players do get a discount on their first transfer which makes joining WvW guilds much more accessible), I’m in the middle of LW3, and I still feel like I have so much to look forward to unlocking and experiencing at a steady pace.
Most surprising to me is that I’ve exclusively played Reaper-core Necro until I had the points to unlock it Ofc, but I’ve never swapped off. I still feel like there is so much for me to learn about just this class. Plus, there are so many fantastic resources as a new player.
I set up Arcdps with the snow crowd guide yesterday, and after just 30 minutes of practice I was consistently executing the power Reaper rotation at 37k dps, about 90% of the maximum benchmark.
I took that into my T2 dailies and was top dps on every encounter, often over 50% of total group damage. I am just so impressed with how great the resources for this game are-I’ve never learned a rotation to that level of maximization in any mmo so quickly.
This community is great at providing tools to learn. But it also has this somewhat odd sense of… overstating difficulty?
I have met so many people who respond to my questions about fractals with “they’re too hard.” When I check these people routinely have 450+ Mastery.
So far, I haven’t struggled just joining LFG and following the groups. I didn’t have arcdps until yesterday so I don’t know how my dps was at first, but I never outright failed a fractal.
I’ve looked up a handful of mechanics after a first clear to understand what I was confused about, but overall they’re highly accessible. T1 is perfectly balanced to let just about any 5 random GW2 players clear it, with an appropriate but entirely approachable difficulty increase in the final few fractals.
I’m still very excited to keep moving forward in the game, and I just love how flexible it is. I’ve actually been working on a bit of a “support” Reaper to help carry groups that get stuck on bosses and had some success with it! A little bit of healing and condition cleanse goes such a long way. I will have to see if that build is up to the infamous challenge of T3 lfg prog, but so far it’s done well in the high T2’s I swapped to it after a wipe in.
Very excited for strikes and raids in the future, and for legendaries. What I wouldn’t give for a set of legendary runes and sigils. I’m very sad I missed out on the “easy” legendary relic. But, unlocking my meta relic via reward track in WvW was quite the nice bit of vertical progression. (Literally, since Reaper uses the one that makes you get bigger after 10 boon corruptions)!

I have not installed it. I’ve also resisted looking up exact guides on finding certain things.
I wandered my way around all four HoT maps, and it was by far one of the all time best jungle exploration experiences I’ve ever had in a game, much less an MMO.
I was super immersed in the feeling of a sentient, evil jungle, and I was hype AF to kill that dragon by the time I got done with all 4 maps (as much as I could at the time, mastery gated). Finishing up the maps as I finished masteries was also super fun-complete with really fun champion fights. All three of the champion fights are neat solo challenges.
I suspect I’ll love blish once I’m at the end of content unlocking, but you’re only new once, and so far the semi blind exploration has been highly rewarding.
3:56 'I will eventually need WvW currency to get the _exotic_ gear that I need to raid.' out of curiosity, what kind of gear will that be? which job do you plan to do in raids requiring gear you can only buy/best by with WvW currency? 🤔
I don't want to ruin the surprise. But I will be going over it very soon. Level 80 is right around the corner. Wvw is a dual purpose game mode.
As a newer player who just finished HoT I’m really looking forward to seeing how someone who has a lot of knowledge on the game does there progression .. also I’m glad I picked a ranger/soul east as my first toon :D I’m guessing it’s good for most content
Yes sir! Ranger has druid and soulbeast which are both top tier specializations. I'll be getting the ranger going later in the series.
will definitely tune in for the series! btw as an ele main, there are easy builds on ele, but the best builds are (as u said) is harder to play. It is surely fun to play, and any1 that want to learn can still play it, but yeah it is one of the weaker ones (maybe a lil better than warrior)
Great video! I have to agree about Ele. There's nothing in Ele that jumps out to me as "must play." For PvE, you mentioned Condi Virt & Power Vindi - both are super fun, strong, pretty forgiving to play - why would you go through the headache of Ele instead? Lord Hizen said pistol was pretty underwhelming for Open World, which is too bad. I'll mess around with SC's Pistol/Warhorn Condition Tempest but I have a feeling Condi Virt will be superior.
I mean I have met a few eles who were shit hot players but it usually isn't the case.. I've tried it and its annoying.
Now this, this is an actual Zero to Hero! It shows how an experienced player will handle the early game and progression to end game and way more entertaining than Boosting to Level 80 and starting Zero to hero from there.
Yeah I want to make it feel as organic as possible so I'm pretty careful with my choices when it comes to account stuff, as far as the leveling process it feels extremely quick, I'd guess I'll be 80 by the 20 hour mark on the account at the latest.

Going back to an account with no bonuses and no QoL unlocked would suck. If I lost my account I'd quit the game :p even if all I do is some metas and dailies and don't really make use of having everything in legendary, it's just very nice to be done with everything. It's a timeless game that you can play here and there and that's why it's great.

Thanks. I definitely am missing my fully unlocked account at times but it brings a new level of strategy to the game when completing stuff. There's more to come for sure!
I wouldn't recommend BlishHud/Trails to new players. I feel those tools are kind of about optimizing the game out of the game. More fitting for jaded veterans that did it all countless times before and cannot be arsed anymore.

I'm a returning player (3 times returning since the release) and I'm still overwhelmed by the amount of stuff to do and lack of guide from the game itself.
But I think I found my groove, no rush, I'll explore what I want as per order of release of the game's expansions.
I still want a legendary though 😢
Legendary items are easier than ever thanks to the "legendary starter kit" definitely worth the 1000 AA from the wizards vault.

Condi is best for the CMs, you can run condi through everything it's just the meta is power dps for 98 and below. 100 and 99 are condi pref fights, and most raids and strikes work well with CVirtuoso.

Hey, thanks for the critique, I thought it was funny, but not all jokes land for everybody. Any inputs on the other 15 minutes and 21 seconds of the video? The report field was just a happy accident actually- I was hoping it would give me a "whisper" option from LFG but it didn't which is why I had to type the name out in the following scene.
