    I met Mike at a gas station in California in the late 90s. The credit card machine was busted and there was a long line at the counter. Out of nowhere Mike started the whole "Breathe deep, the gathering gloom..." poem. Nobody said anything as he recited the whole poem! There was no applause afterwards, but you could tell everyone appreciated it.

    When he left the Moody Blues, it was never the same, as great as the band is. His innovative mellotron playing earns him a rightful place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The Days of Future Passed concept album playing with the orchestra also innovative.

      Yes, listening to the "Octave" album, one sorely misses Mike from the personnel line-up; and onward, simply not the same Moodies.

    All you need do, is listen to the lyrics Mike created, to realize, Mike is a very old Soul, come at this time, this generation,
    to assist in the shift that Humanity "will" soon go through. Fifty years ago, Mike's words created a crack in our consciousness,
    an opening, just enough to make all he touched seek inwards for their own truth of self, and our relationship with our Creator.
    Thank-You Mike, I knew back then, it was a beginning, and the guys have continued to carry the message forward.
    p.s. Can't tell you how many times I've sang along with "Go Now", from the first day airplay, here in the states, that's when I fell in
    Love with The Moody Blues. 💞

    I have often said that . . . that English music rose out of WWII and the many, many centuries of European music from Monteverdi to now. That those times required some serious reflection and respect. And when I look at the cover of ". . . Lost Chord" I imagine being at The Kottle and looking back at those arriving after searching for that holy ghost they just knew they had to find.

    • @GyurChi1
      @GyurChi1 Před 2 lety +1

      Your statement is wrong and does not confirm the events and albums followed from '72. He contributed a lot to M.B. style & sound, but many-many wonderful songs of other members of M.B. (first of all Justin, John & Ray) resulted to be one of the best group of Britain's pop-rock history!

    • @andrewlm5677
      @andrewlm5677 Před 2 lety +2

      @@GyurChi1 Nothing against those other guys but the sum was greater than the parts in the core 7 records. It seems pretty clear that Mike's contributions to the band went far beyond the songs he was credited with. I like some of the stuff they did after Mike left but, to me, it was a pale shadow of the original.

      @designerlarry Před 7 lety +7

      Actually they killed him. He got burned big time. When Pinder left, Moran certainly gave them a bouncier sound., but the orchestral sound wrapped up with Seventh Sojourn. That defined the Moodies at their heyday- the core seven albums. But Moraz regained their popularity with long distance voyager. He should have been considered an integral part of the band.

      A M71 mike and Ray were the founders of the band.. Forming what would become the Moody Blues... one of the great bands meant fusing the talents of John Justin and Graeme was no easy feat with the entire band contributing so much material yet when it all came together the music world was blessed with what I believe is one of the greatest bands of all time. Ray in an interview said when the 3 of them got around a microphone it sounded like the Moody Blues. It didn’t sound like anyone else. That’s a bit of fairy dust he says. .. one writer said Mike wimped out of the band. No, he became freaked out performing live ...
