- The Tabernacle Choir and members of the Orchestra at Temple Square present "Rock of Ages," composed by Thomas Hastings with lyrics by Augustus M. Toplady and arrangement by Arthur Harris.
Episode 4383. Sept 15, 2013 - Hudba
In 1967, I found myself in Salt Lake City. I could pause my journey & get on a later bus with my ticket. I thought that I’d like to visit the Mormon Tabernacle. When approaching the building, I heard voices singing. I went in, made to leave again & a woman at the door stopped me, said that I could stay. It was a truly uplifting experience.
The Tabernacle is huge. The voices reverberated around the building. An experience that will stay with me until my dying day.
This was one my mother's favorite hyms. I always think of her when I hear it. This is a beautiful version of it. The choir is fantastic.
The most wonderful choir in the world...! It is not only the biggest and the oldest, but it is also the most spiritual of all. Listening to them I can imagine how Heavenly Home might be... Thank you so, so much... Muchas gracias !
am always comforted with Christian Music. Glory be to almighty God.

What religion are you??
I think about my ancestors when I hear this song. We are part of God from the beginning till now. Blessed
These are inspiring music's that bring one back to life at downcast period.
They bring TEARS to my eyes. It brings me closer to GOD my Father
Beautiful hynm. You sanged it well. We sanged this at my mom's funeral today. I will remember her every time I hear it. Thank you. God Bless.
I grew up in the Methodist Church. We would sing this hymn frequently and, to this day, this hymn remains a favorite of mine. Tears come to my eyes as I listen to this pleasant rendition and remember those days.
I also grew up in the Methodist church and fondly remember singing this hymn too. I am now a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I still love this hymn.
My Family Hymn
Same as me, my parents were the Methodist Religious ministers. But I was converted to become as a LDS member when I married to the LDS member man. Even though, I'm not attending to the methodist but tunes of the methodist hymns still reminds me I'm a truly methodist.
The Morman Tabernacle never disappoints
This song was sung at my Great Grandmother's funnel. She was a Mormon
I thank my God I'm saved and in the true church.
Thou must save,,
and Thou alone.
Though my zeal, no respite know, all for sin
could not atone.
Out of all the wonderful hymns given to us,
Rock of Ages touches my soul the most,
My beloved Grandmother Emily ( my mothers mother) was laid to rest at its call. 1893~1973
A woman of deep faith in the Lord, a life of hard work and very little means, she never once complained of her lot, but rather rejoiced in it. So devoted to her one (William) husband that when he passed in 1948 she rode with his casket via steam train car the 125 miles back home from hospital. The very rails on which in life he was an engineer for many years for the Northern Pacific R. R.
I would hope and pray that my Dear Lord has found an extra special place for such a woman.
Amen Amen Amen Dieu le père tout puissant inspire par son n 'ESPRIT SAINT soient béni par le nom puissant de Jésus-Christ de Nazareth Amen Amen Amen

So beautiful...there is a kind of joy and peace when you're serving God with your voice...Is unexplainable and incredible...Thank you Lord🙏💖
Very beautiful songs
Sometimes words are not enough to express how beautiful God is.
The original verse says "When I soar to worlds unknown, See Thee on Thy judgment throne, Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee. There is judgment to come!
I love this song.. and the choir is my favorite too,
As much as I dislike the omission of the two most powerful verses of this timeless hymn, this french horn section performed this with perfection. Sent shivers up my spine.
The finishing part is just awesome
Amazing.
Thanks for share the message of this hymn.
Amo esse hino! Me transporto ao céu!

Hermoso!
Jesus be my Rock of ages.
Lindo! Amo!
Beautiful hymn.
Well done;👍
Very moving
Sin palabras algo divino
muy inspirador
I find it interesting that they left out the two middle verses. Here are the missing verses.
Not the labors of my hands
can fulfill thy law's commands;
could my zeal no respite know,
could my tears forever flow,
all for sin could not atone;
thou must save, and thou alone.
Nothing in my hand I bring,
simply to the cross I cling;
naked, come to thee for dress;
helpless, look to thee for grace;
foul, I to the fountain fly;
wash me, Savior, or I die.
Romans 4:5, Ephesians 2:8-9
Maravilhoso!
Those horns blend so well with the voices, don’t they?
very nice hymn
Amen!
Dios os bendiga a todos
they are very much in unison.
Very good creat
Wunderschön
Merry Christmas Dad
Wonderful music. But I wonder why they always nerf the trombones? Even with just brass accompaniment you can barely hear them.
amem
Sound really good. Where can I get the Score of this arrangement please?
Where can I get the score for this? I Love it :)
at first i thought the choir was going to sing rock of ages by def leppard. this works too
This another hym from the church
Someday maybe Def Leppard will sing this hymn with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. However, the only lyrics that are the same out of either song are "rock of ages."
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir y The Vienna Boys Choir are the most inspirational choirs to listen to - in my book
You are right Fonzi, Mormons don't worship a cross, they worship Christ and His Father Jehovah (God). When they baptize people, they do it in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit...not in the name
of the cross.
They also focus on Christ's atonement and resurrection, not his grisly death.
+Mauricio Berdugo -- They worship a false messiah.
+Dennis Campbell: Jesus Christ is a false messiah? I don't think so.
The Mormon Jesus is.
Dennis Campbell : The Mormon Jesus is the same Catholic Jesus, Evangelist Jesus, Greek Orthodox Jesus, etc.
Absolutely not. The Mormon Jesus is a figment of human imagination.
Sometimes I feel like the Mormon Choir sounds too perfect. Don't get me wrong it's fantastic, but sometimes I just feel hymns like this need to have a bit of grit and imperfection. Gives it some character and humanity...coming from the heart of sinners crying out vs people up on a pedestal perfecting every little detail.
Mr. Extreme who says it’s perfect? The women’s voices are not properly placed. Their soft palates are not raised enough so there is a raspy quality to their singing. The brass section also drowns them out. So there. They are not perfect. But they sound very spiritual, which is what is more important
Nice song, but this song from jesus from nazaret people not jesus from america people
Dankie so uit die Hemel. RSA.
Poignant and moving, but... something is not quite right about this choir's version. I swear there are two important joining verses that are missing; I've gone back to the hymn book of my school years to read it through. The hymn sung by the choir also seems much longer with verses omitted.
Voedsel vir die Siel. RSA Groete.
Rock of ages is my favourite Hymn. I so wish The Tabernacle Choir could sing all verses of this Hymn. When I'm dispirited it lifts me up. I so wish one day to see myself at Salt Lake City witnessing the Choir's rehearsals. YOU ARE SIMPLY THE BEST.KEEP IT UP!!!!!
