- Operation Red Wings was a very tragic but at the same time heroic event in the early days of the GWOT. Loved this movie for a while and wanted to make a tribute to the men who gave their all in this event. My condolences to those effected.

For people who dont know, Operation Red Wings was a joint military operation conducted by the United States in the Kunar Province of Afghanistan, A team of four Navy SEALs, tasked with surveillance and reconnaissance of a group of structures known to be used by terrorists. Three of the four team members were killed, the only survivor was Marcus Luttrell.
I had the pleasure of meeting Marcus in person at a gun show once. One of the nicest people I've ever met and very easy to talk too.

RIP Those fallen SEALs also they did a body count on those insurgents. Great movie.
35 or more taliban also died they said .
In real life this never happened, the seals got screwed
@@thegalapagos57 obviously they were scouts that got ambushed.
@@yaboyed5779 not really an ambush when the Taliban heard the Chinook coming miles away. The leadership who set up the op fucked them from the start.

Četl jsem knihu. Velice zajímavé..

Rewatched it too many times I lost count
Great film
They took out so fucking many of em to fucking heros even when shot up multiple times and broken bones every where they continued to fire and fight just shows what we truly are capable of
They fought 3-4 squads at most with minimal Taliban casualties. SEALs just fucked up big time on this op because they suck in the SOF world.
If you watch the taliban footage then you would know that they only had about 12-16 men. Its just that they had a lot of rpk's and rpg's and maneuvered around the seal's. Leadership fucked up and sent the wrong unit
If you see this can you make something using the song "I no longer fear the razor guarding my heel"

HARD AS FUCK!

Yeah so just in case people only know the propaganda version of this event; what really happened was that the mission was poorly planned from the outset. The SEAL unit had just arrived, had no combat experience in country, and, like most SOF, just wanted in on the action. The mission was originally conceived for and by US Marines, who had worked with JSOC on several prior missions in the AO, utilising the SEALs for reconnaissance, but on this occasion elected to conduct the ground recon and assault phases themselves. This was scrapped when JSOC refused to let the Marines use the 160th SOAR helicopters unless special operations ground forces were involved in the mission. So, instead of a USMC recon team quietly infiltrating the area, the SEALs planned to fast rope in from a 160th MH47, less than two miles from Afghan positions.
There was no compromise by a goat herder. The sound of the helicopters - one used for a diversion and one for infiltrating the SEALs - alerted the Afghans, who went to investigate and found the nylon fast rope. The Afghans knew the terrain like the backs of their hands and quickly tracked and located the SEALs. Contrary to what Hollywood or the SEALs themselves might claim, it does not take hundreds of enemy to overwhelm a tiny force of 4 men, SEALs or not. Between 10-20 Afghans ambushed the SEALs from elevated positions as they moved down a draw. It was over quickly. There was no extended pursuit, no last stands, no heroics. Some reports claim that Luttrell still had most of his ammunition when he was found.
Later, a 160th helicopter was shot down while attempting to insert a QRF of SEALs. All 8 SEALs and 8 crew were killed. 19 American dead in total, all because nobody had the authority to tell some inexperienced SEALs that their plan sucked.
And to add Lutrell literally didn’t even fire his rifle, the rangers that found him (I believe the were rangers) said he had all 11 mags still fully loaded.

An operation that Americans soldiers got their butts handed to them. Amazing
Total phuck up and failure on a monumental scale
Yes, the loss of a few good soldiers is a huge disaster, although compared to the slaughter of Russian soldiers in Afghanistan or Chechnya, the Americans fare rather well in terms of losses. They take care of their people.
@@wirt9652 it wasn’t a few though, it was a hole platoon plus change because four guys couldn’t see the merit in killing a goat hearder to complete the mission.
Bunch on misguided Americans who can’t kill a man in person but will blow up a bus full of kids from a distance.
@@AussieStandsWithRussiamisguided logic, from what i see at least, and dont sit here and try to claim a morale high ground when your “special operation” has done nothing but make the Russian government out to be a villain. If russia ever dared to declare war on the U.S it would be over in a few months at least. L
Where are those us babies now ? Yep back home 😅😅🤣🤣🤣😴😴😴
Afghan force 🙌🙌
The Same Afghanistan force that ran away and cried and Hid in Caves when they lost the country. Lol America won 95% of the Engagements in the entire war.
