Facebook has several groups for Larry Bird fans. Some of the members posted photos of themselves at the museum opening. One fan reported that Larry’s 1986 MVP trophy was moved from French Lick to Terre Haute, but Larry’s Olympic warm-up jacket remains at 33 Brick Street Cafe in French Lick.
The museum website was not up until just before the opening weekend. Reservations for that weekend must have been booked within the hour. Believe me, I tried. I would have flown in just for the chance of glimpsing Larry Bird. Maybe one day, I’ll get the chance to go to the museum.
He was playing Magic when I was waiting to be born. I grew up in Milwaukee, hearing from my dad about what an asset he was. My favorite, by far... heck of a Man. One to strive to be. No bs, not entitled, just there for you and the team above everything.

This museum is a good thing. Larry Bird doesn't change, he still has the same accent and attitude. Think that is one of the things I appreciate about him the most. He did so much and accomplished so much, but it doesn't seem to have really changed his outlook on life.

I was actually raised near a small town of about 500 people and now live in one that is about 8+K. So when you were talking about Terre Haute being a small town, it sounded odd because I know it is a college town, so I looked it up & found that it is actually about half the size, (58K+) of the capital of Michigan. Of course that only included the city and not the population of the "metropolitan statistical area". Love the names they come up with.

When He Said, 'It Was A Hard Decision For Some To Give Up Stuff For This Museum"; I'm Pretty Sure That Was Places In His Hometown French Lick & Maybe Some Of His Family Members Too. Because When The "Media Girl" Said There Were Rooms Filled With His Stuff Like It Was All At His Home; Well Yes I'm Pretty Sure At One Time He May Have Had Extra Only Because Older Members Of His Family Passed Away. Because He Didn't Like Having A Trophy Room & He Has Said This In Another Interview. So He Let Some People From His Hometown, Family Members & Here At His Old College Show Case Them.
Terre Haute is a very small, rural town. Bird put it on the national map.
