- Das EFX - Klap Ya Handz - Das EFX is an American hip hop duo. It consists of emcees Skoob (also known as Books, born William "Willie" Hines, November 27, 1970) and Dray (also known as Krazy Drayzy, born Andre Weston, September 9, 1970). They rose to popularity in the early 1990s due to their affiliation with EPMD's Hit Squad and the duo's stream of consciousness lyrical delivery, which became one of the most influential lyrical styles in hip hop music during the early 1990s. Their style combined nonsensical lines with a fast-paced flow (that included words that end with "-iggedy") and numerous pop culture references.

Only Das Efx can turn the sound someone makes when they spit into a lyric.

'Blind Alley' by The Emotions ('71), 'Handclapping Song' by The Meters ('70), 'Top Billin' ' by the Audio Two ('87), 'Big Beat' by Billy Squier ('80) and an unknown crowd sample
Ll cool j pink cookies
That crowd sample is so raw though, you kinda hear a whistle in there too, unbeatable.
You did your hw connoseur...
@@juliusigonzalez3742 yes indeed!
@@IziarFknCassidyRepnMelb 'Blind Alley' was sampled there too.
Noticed that there wasn’t as much “iggity” in this single. This was before they recorded the dead serious album. This was the song they used when they competed for $100.00 in Virginia. EPMD was so impressed with them that they offered them a record deal.
I think it was parish just did an interview for the first time in 7 years, admitted what I knew from the second I heard this story years and years ago... they walked over to dre and scoob seeing them disappointed and confused and quietly said "would you rather have a record deal or $100"
@@JokersNtheOddball Watch "DJ Self Interview With Das EFX". They talk about that contest in detail
this was my favorite track on the album back then, still is!
I Used to Have Das EFX this On cassette back in 1992 Age 14 for Me and when I played I Looked forward to this song Track #9 for the lyrics Skoob's Verse 1:07 "It's Half past A Cow' A*s! And I Am REAL BADAZZ Yeah!!🥊🥊 🤘🔥✌🔉
this how they got on with EPMD, Drazy said that after they performed this at the rap contest in 1990, the scale was 1-10 and EPMD was putting up 11's and 12's. Cause they style was literally new and original, the iggety thing had never been done by anyone before them
Sewer Talk💯💯💯💯💯
It's called blunted style...
Is das efx
Figgity fadacts

Gonna keep it short and simple, These guys can RAP!!!!! I mean jus listen to these crazy flows they put together True Emcees....
Still 🔥
Currently my favorite song, this shit goes off. Mad underrated 👌🏽🔥
10/10....always loved this
That #NYQUIL reference at 1:08 was genius. NyQuil's well-known litany as “The nighttime sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aching, stuffy head, fever, so you can rest medicine” was first coined in 1979.
All these years and I never caught that.
@@Twizzledoc187 Yes, indeed. They were very clever with their wordplay on this cut.
Classic asf 🔥🔥🔥🔥
This track is dope. A favorite 😎. ,👍
I got to see, rap along with and speak after the show with these guys a few years back when they came to a local venue. Checked that one off of my lifetime list ....
Been close to 20 years since I've heard this last. And the first thing I noticed is how sinister the undertones of this beat actually are. I never got that vibe back in the day!
Yeah man, I never noticed that back in the day either!!
Sampled from the song "Blind Alley" by The Emotions.
Pure hip hop
"So if ya happy and ya know it, klap ya handz" - skoob (books in reverse)
These dudes took it out off orbit, rocket blastoff status!
Classic shit I will never forget my mom buying this tape and having it stuck in the tape deck cuz we played this album out.

Did you ever take the tape out? 😂😂
@@phillipayoung10 hell no that thing died in that Dodge Colt tape deck🤣
One of the greatest beats of all time I wish I knew who produced it
In house. They produced this for themselves. Parrish (EPMD) was the EP.
Lawrence Hamilton what you saying das efx produced this beat or epmd?

If you happy and you know it...klap your hands
Great track!!!! Real hip hop
I had the opportunity to see these katz at a hit squad concert with EPMD and Redman in San Bernardino, Ca. OFF THA CHAIN! Definitely a delivery and style that outshined new acts, and clearly made other up and coming emcees think about versatility with creativity in the rhyme laboratory.
Frederick Mckinon yeah !
I saw them on the same tour in Cleveland. They ripped it so hard.
You know efx!!!

My whole life I knew this beat a sickly biggie demo tape. You think ur a real hip hop fan until...
Better than bone thugs n harmony
They stole this beat from The red headed kingpin, we don't have a plan b.
Nah they borrowed that beat from LL COOL J'S [Pink cookies in plastic bag] and then again the sampled that beat they didn't steal it → czcams.com/video/ky86VmsMBTI/video.html
Big Daddy Kane → czcams.com/video/nqPlF5Mn32M/video.html
I think red kingpin dissed them on private investigators album-mash up the mic.
This beat is fire but the lyrics are wack especially the 1st verse
Your crazy go listen to the song again.
@@traviscarter1023 this was an attention seeking comment
Heads up Krs 1 is in the house!
Your comment is beyond wack! I’m stunned by you ignorance. Das EFX had their own unique style of real hip hop. It wasn’t about storytelling. It wasn’t about bitches and hoes. It wasn’t about cars and clothes. It wasn’t about money. It was about the beats, the music, and using the rhythm of their voices and words to build good vibes. As much as people try to ignore it, their word selection, delivery, and syncopation are crucial to their style. Those elements were carefully thought out. This was good music to play at parties, parties where people just wanted to dance and have fun. Young guys and gals could hang out, hook up, and have a good time. Nobody wanted to fight. People don’t dance no more at parties. They beef and then shoot the place up!
The fact that you don’t get Das EFX and say their lyrics are wack proves you don’t get them. They never had particularly profound lyrics and it wasn’t about that anyway! They made music to make people feel good.
Music was different when this came out. This album came out in 1992. I was in high school and this album was hot! How old are you? This album is probably before your time. You needed to be there to understand.
