Which Apple Pencil Is Right For You?

- Apple recently introduced a new variation of the Apple Pencil called USB-C, which means there are now three models of Apple Pencil to choose from. So which one is right for you? Well that depends on which iPad you have, what features you need, and how much you can spend.

Apple doesn't usually make mistakes but I think they did here. Customers are too overwhelmed, confused, and sometimes mad looking to find the right one for them.
exactly. they should've replaced the 1st gen pencil with the USB-C one but also give it all the same features
If you know your Apple products then you know which Pencil to buy. It’s not difficult.
No customers aren’t confused they’re stupid
i suppose this is more for EU compliance than for actual sales.
Apple is becoming Samsung with way too many options.
The convenience of being able to pair and charge the Pencil 2 on the side of you’re iPad is the killer feature for me. The lack of pressure sensitivity means that only students will ever use the USBC one for me
sigh if only Apple came out with usbc when i got my ipad and pencil. im a student and uses the 2nd gen one; if usbc came out in the past i cldve saved a 100!!!!
@@yankee7238Hey guys, just buy a Galaxy tab, no need to charge a pencil, and the pencil comes free ;D
hey, it seems like you know some stuff! Can you help out? So I have like the Apple Pencil it’s says hoco on the side, is it not supposed to have the usb
@@frigsoandfrisgo8745that's a copy, not made by apple, that's why
I don't need any of the features of the apple pencil 2, but having my pencil always be right next to my ipad, not to mention it's always 100% charged, that's all I needed to buy the pencil 2. I don't even use the pencil that much, maybe once or twice a week
If Apple Pencil (USB-C) had the pressure sensitivity feature. It would’ve been the model that I would recommend to everyone.
Unfortunately, no sadly that’s the reality we didn’t get was pressure sensitivity
I tested it out and loved it so much, the way it feels in the hand is superb... but had to change to gen1 because of pressure sensitivity and I have ipad 10 ;-; it feels SO MUCH WORSE
So which one CZcams sugest for ipad 10th?
gen 1 if you plan on drawing or painting anything, usb c if you want to use it for everyday use and note taking
@@qrandrea2160
I hate how the gen 2 doesn’t support I pad 10 gen
LEGITIMATELY SAME!!! I bought my 2nd gen pencil with my iPad 10th gen, and I was so confused why it wasn’t connecting. But now I know :/
Exactly!!!I really wish I will have Apple Pencil 2 but I suppose I have IPad 10 so there is no way.Hope Pencil 3 works...❤
@@kristalmelendez5100damn bro.. my condolences.. those stuffs arent cheap..
Tried my frend gen2 pencil with my ipad 8th gen and doesnt work.. so sad..
Did it work, i am planning to buy
@@adrianaa8841
Same 🥲
Just get the 2nd gen one, if your iPad is compatible. It’s not a huge jump in price from the 1st gen one, it has way more features, and it connects to the iPad on the side magnetically, where it also charges. It’s just way more convenient.
Hey Apple explained
That is a false advise. No iPad compatible with 1st gen Pencil that is also compatible with 2nd gen Pencil.
@@techken wdym? You can literally just plug the 1st gen Apple Pencil into a 2nd gen Apple Pencil-compatible iPad and it’ll work…
@@xXmlgamingXx355 False. You cannot plug directly a 1st gen Apple Pencil to any iPad compatible with 2nd gen Apple Pencil.
1st gen Apple Pencil only has male lightning plug while all iPads compatible with 2nd gen Apple Pencil only has female USB-C port.
@@techken did you not watch the video, or something? It literally comes with an adapter…
As someone who loves to take notes on goodnotes with the 2nd gen. The pressure sensitivity might not matter to me but believe me the double tap feature is something that you need. Its a crime to reach for eraser tool everytime you need it. With double tap the experience becomes more seamless.
Straight to the point, great video. Thank you!
1st gen cap is easy to lose, but 3rd party sellers quickly made little silicone hats for it that have a tether that goes around the body of the pencil, so it’s attached while charging. Also made a holder for the original lighting to lightening adaptor that wraps around the charging cable.
I noticed those on Amazon, but pretty sure they obstruct the pencil from going into it's designated slot in cases. There are also plenty of magnetic cap replacements if you lose the original. The cap literally doesn't do anything except sit there covering the lightning port, so imo it sounds like a good alternative.
Thanks for the clear explanation. Great job!
Its nice to see more frequent uploads :D
If the new apple pencil is cheaper and connects the the tablet you have go for it , you are missing pressure sensitivity in the end of the day though, If you are a artist go with the first or second gen
Thank you so much that was short and very helpful
This video didn’t even last a year and we have Apple Pencil Pro…
Awesome explanation. Well deserved the channel name 👌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you so much that was very helpful ❤
Thank you so much sir, this video is helpful 🙏🏻❤
Apple is usually really good at defining what each product is for, and creating a clear price tier of products. The naming schemes also tend to be pretty straightforward, without a bunch of numbers and letters that dont mean anything obvious.
But this is really, really weird. I think this Apple Pencils main purpose is just to be an Apple Pencil with a usb c port, just so that they can say they did it. Its not good value even if it is cheaper, because pressure sensitivity is a massively important thing for doing any sort of art with it. It sits in a weird position of being sort of in between the first and second gen, but also worse than the first gen. If it had pressure sensitivity, itd be a perfect replacement for the 1st gen. But the lack of sensitivity is such a big problem it means id never be able to use it.
sensitivity or not it can never be a replacement as (most) ipads that suport 1st gen dont support the usb-c one and vice versa
how do you get high res photos and what editing software do you use? so great
I'm still holding on to the 1st gen. Even though they just announced the Apple Pencil Pro with great features. The 1st gen has everything what I need. Except hover support. That the only feature I wish it support. Since I use it for drawing.
very helpful! Thanks
Love your content
Thank you for clearly explaining something that apple really should be explaining themselves
This worked perfectly for me. I bought apple pencil 2 and I love it. My only suggestion is to make it easier to add periods, commas, etc.
since the 1st gen says Air 3rd gen only does that mean the Air 4 and 5 are not backwards compatible? Yes I know it uses lightning, but what if I use a separate lightning charger to charge it?
For those looking for the music in vid it’s called piano moment by Ben sound
Lovely video...keep up the great work! 👍
It would be fantastic if you could make a similar explanation about the different AirPods generations in the future :)
Apple emoji?!
@@itischeck
@@itischeck yeah
I have the magnetic one (not the usb c but the 2nd gen)
I have the 1st gen and it’s a pretty nice Apple Pencil
I have always wanted a second gen pencil, got a new iPad. If Apple can make it so that the phone detects whether someone is near to it, they can make it so that the second gen is compatible.
Brilliant video Greg
Gosh, I have the 1st gen and it never gave me an issue. I mean, is there really any reason to upgrade other than if it stops working? Kinda think Apple is fragmenting this part of their portfolio.
Can you make a video on why iPhone volume buttons are on left side and not on right side as most androids do
I think the apple usb-C without pressure sensitivity is about the same as the apple pen alternative, so I chose the $9.9 YEBOS pen, which is great value for money!
didnt know there was 3 lol i got the OG one years ago. My school sold it for cheaper
I have the 2 gen… no issues.
My question is how the affordable apple pencil supports an exclusive iPad pro hover feature but not the pressure sensitivity a basic feature with these...
Would you create iMac that skipped m2 please
Thanks for the video. Now I can buy the right Apple Pencil 😊
Actually, Apple pencil 1st generation do support hover by connevting it with iPad Pro 2022 with 3rd party app ❤.
i’m so glad I saw this video because I would’ve bought the Apple Pencil 2 without realizing it doesn’t work on my iPad 7th generation😬
They really realized that 3rd parties are starting to hurt their pencil sales with cheaper, yet still decent alternatives, so they just made a crappier pencil for $20 cheaper than the OG pencil, which they've NEVER given a price cut! They're wild RN!😂
Exactly. I have two differing types of China made pencils which function just like the USB-C, and they came with the charger and spare tips too. Each cost below 20 USD. I’d be crazy to buy this USB-C Apple-branded junk
I would say for $79, most people would not mind the pressure sensitivity or wireless charging. They just need the basics. Nothing to complicated or confusing.
lol but any fake on Ali express for 20$ can do that. Only thing they lack is pressure sensitivity. That's whole reason people was buying originals cuz of the pressure.
I dont rlly see the point in the usbc one but i would get it for the price if ur trying to get one for a lower price but 2nd gen is better imo u can js stick it ur ipad
Can usb c pencil tip can be replace with 2 generation pencil ?
The LISA engraving is a nice touch
It’s kind of sad that the 1st gen onl works on my iPad but not many features.
I plan on getting either the M1 iPad Pro or the M1 iPad Air and I only have one USB-C charger for my M1 MacBook Air so I'll get the Apple Pencil 2nd Gen
Next pencil may have SCSI interface to charge and transfer data
am i the only one that likes the new apple pencil usbc? like pressure sensitivity isn’t that much of a problem for me considering i used to have an apple pencil 2 before it broke and i didn’t like the pressure sensitivity too much
I have the 2nd gen one
I’d say only get the Usbc pencil if you have the iPad 10
Only one will work for me (the $99 model) My concern is if I apply too much pressure, I could scratch up the screen. Is it made to avoid this?
You can probably buy a screen protector to fix that
My favorite feature if it had it it would be attached magneticly
i have usb c and its amazing, i would recommend it if your looking to buy a good pencil at a decent price unlike the 2nd gen. usb c works like a charm
imo just buy 2nd gen. Yh it's more expensive but it lasts forever and just doesn't leave anything left to desire. And it just feels like an extension of the iPad so isn't annoying
surface pen 2 does all of this except the engraving
I love the first iPhone launches and Steve says “stylus? Yuck who wants a stylus?!” Then the Apple Pencil releases
Apple pencil was by timmy, not steve
No iPhone is compatible with the Pencil.
Welp, cuz it's just more comfortable to draw with a pencil, rather than a finger. For normal usage you use your fingers, but if you need to draw - there's apple pencil.
because the apple pencil is a drawing instrument and a stylus is a pointing device
Exactly, because the Apple Pencil was not made for the iPhone and it’s not a Stylus…
Why does Apple start to put the charging port in the most weirdest places for the mouse on the bottom and now this
All you have to do is disconnect it from Bluetooth then reconnect, unless it’s completely dead like he said, but I like this method.
The 2 is the way to go
Having the pencil always avaivable is important
Miss the times where we actually learned something from your channel bring back the long videos please
i have a first gen pencil, and a iPad 10th gen and my pencil attaches magnetically?
All of this for a pencil. Top-notch “simplicity” from Apple
Apple Pencil gen 1 is a nightmare for me cuz i have to charge it in the ipad, but the performance for was okay same for the gen 2 :)
Omg i forgot they had the adapter i was young when i got the gen 1
Pressure sensitive is not good cuz it makes it hard to draw grateful art so I prefer Apple Pencil usb-c
Whats the point of having tilt sensitive and no pressure sensitive option🤧
I’ve been using the Apple Pencil first generation for like five years now
Will Usb c pencil magnetically connect and charge with the iPad 10th gen?
Will attach magnetically, but pairing and charge via cable.
I am going to buy iPad air 5th gen so I think for me apple pencil 2nd gen is best cuz it have pressure sensetive !!
whats the point of an apple pencil without pressure sensitivity
I never realized there was a type c Apple Pencil!
If I wanted a pencil my only choice is the 1 gen
I don't get what is the point of usb-c port in Pencil. I got 2nd version and it charges wirelessly 0-100 in worldly 1,5 minutes. (like 2-3% per few seconds). Overengineering level hard
Can you please explain why Apple is obsessed with the color white? Like, why can they sell a pencil in black or any other color?
Lack of pressure sensitivity in the new one is just ridiculous and makes it useless for drawing.
Great. Now only if you would talk about "For Apple Pencils" as well. Yes the third party products that you would think they suck but price very rightly!
I'm sure that makes a great supplimentary video clip to this so look serious into this idea.
Is rather stick with first gen Apple Pencil because I don’t see the difference in charging with the new usb c and the first gen
I have the 2nd gen
I have the hoco one what’s that one someone help I’m only new
Apple Pencil usb c also supports iPad 10
I prefer using the 2nd generation, it works better.
In 2022,
I choose the Apple Pencil 2nd generation rather than the Apple Pencil 1st generation when I owned the M2 iPad Pro 12.9-inch rather than the entry-level iPad 10th generation.
In 2023,
I skipped getting the affordable Apple Pencil with USB-C port when I added the Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro 12.9-inch with Face ID.
Why not just get a third party magnetic Apple pencil 2 lookalike? There are lots of options, may not be as seamless in features, but gets the job done without need for USBC
I think they release this ahead of time then axe the first gen pencil and upgrade all the iPad to gen 2 and USB C pencil next year. This is just to test the water how the product would work in the real world.
Double tap and magnetic charging is really important for me so I don’t get the point of the USB C Apple Pencil. Cuz literally every rip off you can buy have those features
I have 1st generation one
Which pencil is compatible with iPad Air 5th gen 2022?
All
These go against so much Steve Jobs envisioned and implemented at Apple. Namely not having extensive, confusing, bloated product lines.
Is apple pencil 2 not compatible with iPad 10th generation?
Nopee
if anyone comes across this comment, can you turn off pressure sensitivity with the 2nd gen?
i like how you dont have to think about this when buying a samsung. the pen is inclusive...
NEVER SHOW UR SERIAL NUMBER BLUR THAT!!!!
1:59 i could've gotten a free engraving on my apple pencil??? How did i never know this
lol I alr have an Apple Pencil but still watched this
You have to make a new video history of IMac
I have 1st ten gen
Apple Pencil 2nd generation is the best.I know price is really big but feautures deserves your iPad
I just bought an iPad 10th gen, now I'm struggling to choose if I should buy the USB-C or the 1st gen Apple Pencil 😵😵
Ive had the first gen apple pencil for about 4 years with an older iPad, I then upgraded to the 10th gen and continued to use the gen 1 pencil. I really like the feel of the gen 2/usb c compared to the gen 1. The fact that I have to use a stupid dongle to charge it and that it doesn't magnetically connect is a killer for me. Id say if youre thinking of drawing, get gen 1. Otherwise if you are just using it for notes and dont care about pressure sensitivity, get the usb c.
@@nicholasxhindolli667 Thanks for the suggestion, I opt for the USB-C version since I do not draw on my iPad, only taking notes in class.
Bro I literally lost the cap of my pencil. TWICE.
Steve Jobs would’ve gone insane
