We are here with our new experiment. With this experiment, which is done quickly and easily with materials that can be found in every home, you will be able to discover and experience the effect of oxygen, which is different in quantity, on the time to put out candles.
We wish you enjoy.
WHAT YOU NEED
- 3 transparent jar with their lids (Big, medium and small size)
- 3 candles
- Lighter
HOW TO DO
1- Open the lids of the 3 jars and put them like inside of them facing you.
2- Put the 3 candles on the lids.
3- Light the candles.
4-Turn the jars upside down and put them on the lids and then close (Start closing with the biggest jar first, then medium size and the smallest one last).
Now, it is time to wait a moment.
You will discover that the candle which is in the smallest jar will go out first, then the candle is in the medium size jar is the second and the candle which is in the biggest jar will go out last.
WHY IS THAT
Candle needs oxygen (air) to burn. When it is closed with a jar, it can't get oxygen and it goes out. So why don't they all go out at the same time?. Because the sizes of the jars are different from each other. The candle that is in the biggest jar, burn longest and goes out last because there is more air (oxygen) in the largest jar. The amount of oxygen (air) effects the extinction time.
