  • Dassi prófar glussadrifið í bílnum hans Halldórs. Þetta bara svínvirkar. David in the Icelandic Land Rover owners club, tries the hydraulic powered lo gear. In this video, the Defender is in neutral gear, and no clutch is used. Engine is in idle, just controlled with Halldors patented hydraulic system.

    It's a hydro rotor driven by a belt driven pump. It attaches to the T-case and inputs power in PTO. Instead of using the PTO to power an attachment, the PTO gets used to input the power from the hydro rotor.

    @my86samurai No gears, the engine is not powering directly the wheels via it natural transmission, instead, the diff's are hydraulic powered, if you notice, he doesn't accelerate, the engine just powers the hydraulic pump. this is only used in severe off road conditions and rock climbing.

    @Inklebonker1 Originally they weren't. They are only heavy now because they turned them into armored vehicles. That was not their original function. Unarmored versions can weigh under, sometimes well under, 6,000#'s

  • @Venefiga
    @Venefiga Před 12 lety

    @justin76bmw it is true about them being too wide
    I live in South Africa and the Old H1 has major issues working properly here
    The reason for that is that most of the off road sections have been made by the old Land rovers and Land cruisers
    The Humvee is too wide to run in their tracks which means that it always have to forge it’s own road
    And when you have trees growing on both sides of the road (or huge rocks,cliffs of whatever)then you have a problem
    It works fine in open grass or deserts

    @l337pwnage Keep in mind though weight isn't always that pressing with ofroad vehicles for instance trophy trucks weigh from 6-9,000 lbs yet move through the desert at speeds exceeding 120mph. It just depends on the function and i think the h1 covers every ofroad category in such a way to make it the best off road vehicle ever made.

    @islandoffroadracing I'm guessing you mean a hydraulic pump with a magnetic clutch for belt drive from the engine?
    When I say PTO, on a defender the transfer box has a dedicated point to run all sorts of tools and such directly from the gearbox, just like a tractor. I for example run my hydro pump for my winches from this point. I think this guy has a hydro pump setup like you describe and a hydro motor where I have my pump.

  • @Puffalupagus360

  • @l337pwnage
    @l337pwnage Před 12 lety

    @justin76bmw Actually, I think you are correct in your first assumption. I was being a bit facetious with my comment. ;) I think they are running some special system. You could make a hydraulic system that could travel at speed of 50 mph or more. Really, the only speed limit would be your flow, pressure, and ability to cool the oil.
    However, an automatic transmission with 2 or 3 transfer cases stacked(its been done) has gearing low enough to basically do what he just did.

  • @ruuman
    @ruuman Před 13 lety

    @autahi49 I'm imagining he has an engine driven pump, with a hydro motor on the PTO plate on a dog clutch. Then he engages the dog and either manually holds down the clutch pedal or has a line lock to permanently disengage the clutch when in hydro drive. cool thing is that would work in high and low, 10speed hydro drive, wonder how fast it can go in hydro mode?

    first : If it is hydraulics turning the wheels and tires then why do you need axels with rearends
    why not just use straight axels ? That way you dont have the pumpkin in the way so you
    can have a few more inches of clearance .
    second : Also I guess that this means you really dont even need a transfer case or even a
    transmission as far as that goes ? All you would need is the engine to drive the
    pump ?
