    Alive was a great movie but had some hollywoodean touches. The real survivors have said many time they didn't see themselves in the way the story was told even if the facts were correct. But this new one is exactly how they felt. They had a screening here in Uruguay with the survivors and relatives of the deseased and they couldn't believe how good and touching it was for them. Also something important for us was that it was filmed with local actors so for us Spanish speakers this sounds extremely accurate because we are hearing our beautiful Uruguayan accent as it it.

      ..interesting you say survivors didnt see them selves as depicted, seeing as they all had input on the making..nando and conessa more than others...nando was present for most of the filming..this i know as i worked the show...something that was missing (imo) was a story line of what the families were going through and how some never gave up hope..i feel both should have been done perhaps 2 parts in order to do this..a miniseries...the ending of alive with john malcovitch was amazing ...either way, a story to be told..a story to be remembered

    There were 3 cameos, Carlos Paez plays his own father, he is the one who mentions each survivor twice towards the end. Roberto Canessa is the doctor behind "himself" (He is also a doctor and cardiologist in real life). And Nando Parrado (who crossed the Andes on foot with Roberto) is the man who opens the door for them when they enter the airport at the beginning of the film

      There is actually 8 cameos according to the cast list. As you say Roberto plays a doctor, Carlitos plays his father and Nando is at the airport. However both Tintin and Moncho Sabella are also at the airport. Gustavo Zerbino plays the rugby coach, Daniel Fernandez is the priest assistant and Coche Inciarte is a bar customer. Coche sadly died last year.

    A Powerful movie of survival, of plane crash, frigid weather, avalanche, hunger, loneliness, desperation, fear and death. Every frame was heartbreaking. Nandor had motivation to leave as he didn’t want to end up eating his mother and sister. And to have that strength to traverse the mountains in that weather with no proper experience and gears was just unbelievable.

      I didn't rate Oppenheimer obviously a big event and the main cast gave amazing performances I just think there's something lacking with American and British cinema of late and I think it's more about directors and needing to place faces you've seen to many times plus the whole Hollywood left and right plane lists and b.s just turn me off from thinking or investing and even wanting to invest my time money and allowing anything to pull my heart strings doesn't come naturally anymore were living dystopian almost communist existences and the pretence doesn't work . This was a great movie and a change and it kind of reminded me of real people real times real troubles real press and how depending on yourself and the ones you know wasn't manipulated in every way possible now it's just you and your bank account and anything good coming your way in a glass box for the cunts to look at

    This was definitely better than ‘Alive’
    Alive was great at the time but this movie really captures the sense of feeling trapped in a vast open space in a way Alive never did.
    They can be climbing up through the Andes like little dots in the snow, but I felt the claustrophobia from the surrounding mountains
    Wonderful cinematography and a wonderful homage to those involved

    • @ILoveJahangeer
      @ILoveJahangeer Před 5 měsíci +1

      I thought ‘Alive’ is amazing, the actual crash moment was a lot better in ‘Alive.’ Also, the fact that Roberto Canessa didn’t have any facial hair, when he had a full on beard when they were rescued, takes a way a huge part of his identity and appearance; so I’m quite annoyed that they chose to make him clean-shaven. The there was a bit more emotion shown by the characters in ‘Alive’ too, whether it was fear, sorrow or anger at one another.
      This film was really good and authentic, but I wish it took a little more of what worked in ‘Alive’ and used that as inspiration.

    • @svl_93
      @svl_93 Před 5 měsíci +13

      Still, this movie has a more human focus, and the cultural context is very important. You can't have American actors playing uruguayans, and if you do, make sure they don't move the straw of their mate.@@ILoveJahangeerAlso, it's good to give a voice to the ones who wouldn't be able to make it, because they were also very important in the story, in their friends survival. Numa is a good example of it. It was good of J Bayona to give the victims a name, whereas in Alive, they were just extras.

    • @Adifgreat
      @Adifgreat Před 5 měsíci +13

      @@ILoveJahangeer Why would they use a film the survivors dislike as inspiration? 'Society of the Snow' was made to tell the true story in a respectful and realistic way. In the words of the survivors, 'Alive' is a fictionalised and very superficial depiction with stereotyped characters in which they've never seen themselves reflected.

    • @vascoernesto78
      @vascoernesto78 Před 5 měsíci +13

      @@ILoveJahangeerAlive sucked. They are laughing and joking a lot of times throughout the ordeal, like they are having a great adventure or a vacation in the mountains when the survivors have said in all interviews that every single day was hell and they didn't know if they were going to be the next one to die. The dialogue and performances in Alive are bland and weak.

    • @alexstanton83
      @alexstanton83 Před 5 měsíci +5

      You can say the same for Ethan Hawke, he refused to grow a beard for Alive. The 90s film is good but it's not accurate and it resorts to emotional manipulation. This one is brutal, has more heart, more human and it's an accurate representation of what these guys went through and unlike Alive, this one has the approval of the survivors.@@ILoveJahangeer

    FUN FACTS ABOUT THE MOVIE AND THE REAL LIFE EVENT:
    The actor who portrayed the father of Carlitos Paez ( the guy who is listing all the names of the survivors at the end of the movie), is actually the real Carlitos Paez.

Después por otro lado el director grabo varios días en el lugar del accidente en los Andes, todo este metraje fue pensado y usado para los fondos. You dont miss anything by not watching Alive. Its not the same story, hollywood took a book called alive, a book that just stated the facts no emotion,and turned it in to some hollywood flick, inserted melodrama and fist fights among the survivors and dumb shit about them falling thru the ice holding to a ledge and that dumd sort of thing hollywood uses all the time, and not happy with that, and the gore, they also disrespected the dead even further by changing the characters names to some generic names in spanish.

      I like that Alive better conveys who is who in the plane…. And uses visual language to understand the plane crash better…. This one the characters blend with each other in the beginning…. Nando’s mom for example has better characterization…. Also you can clearly tell who were the guys with the broken legs…. They totally omit the agonizing lady trapped under the seats…. She just mention her….

      Alive wasn't the "original", the first one was the mexican Supervivientes de los Andes (Survive!) from 1976 based in the book of Clay Blair with the same name. Then, in 1993 came Alive!, based in the book of Piers Paul Read and now this one, based in the book from 2009 by Pablo Virci. Anyways, none is the original since the three are based in different books, of course, that they are similar since the three recall the same real-life event.

    Great review, thanks. I thought, apart from the opening and ending, this was pretty much a beat for beat remake of Alive! The tone was slightly different, and there was less of the extreme stuff that Alive had (the falling into a crevasse, the mad crew member), but I thought they were generally *very* similar. This one felt colder, and the trek to safety felt longer. What I missed from both of them was them not dealing with the public reaction to their survival technique.

    • @Willy_Elres
      @Willy_Elres Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@senero3121 Yes, it's not officially a remake, but I'm saying it *plays* more like a remake than most other remakes do (one exception being Psycho). Of course, it's based on the same story, so there will have to be similarities, but look at the differences between, say, A Night To Remember and Titanic - the latter is *clearly* not a remake and is a very very different film, based on the exact same event. My point is, this film *looked* like a remake - and a mostly very faithful one.

    The movie was okay. Slightly better than Alive, but not by much. I think the issue is there is too much they can put in a movie about this tragedy to make it a 2.5 hour film. It should have been a miniseries with a solid 5 or more hours to introduce the cast, let us learn something about them, and show us what their families went through. Also, most of the ingenious ways they learned to adapt were not shown, such as making sunglasses out of plane parts to fight snow blindness, and using seat cushions as snow shoes.
