    Blast from the past 😊 I still have my 505 and a few years ago my neighbor gave me his old 4040 which has (I think) 4 banks, 4 presets and a pedal. Weird how something I couldn't afford back then and was drooling over infront of the music store window is now only worth €25 or so. But it's a LOT of fun for €25!

    I was trying to think about why I'm drawn more to your channel than any others - and there are some good ones out there. I couldn't tie it down - nor did I want to really, happy to just 'let it be so'. But, if I was to say anything, it's partly because there are so many things going on in the videos. I guess I'm saying there's something for everyone, and as little or as much as you want to take. Fantastic playing, loads of interesting technical stuff and detail, lots to learn and take forward, challenging and much, much more. But if I was to distil it for me, it's all of that, but with the added dimension of how you deliver it, your infectious enthusiasm and that really, really special way you provide personal context. You just don't find that with other people. I'm sure this sounds a bit cheesy, but it's sincere. Just wanted a fuller way to say 'thank you'. p.s. I'm thinking of selling the telly ..... don't need it no more, so long as you keep making these. Cheers.

    On CZcams the drive sounds on that Zoom, are pretty good.. My experience with Multi effects is that when it comes to Overdrive sounds, they are quite convincing especially the GT1(Boss) . Actually most of the time, no one can tell if I am using the Boss Gt1 or other pedals like the JackerHammer(That you also love and own), Mad Professor or Joyo Vintage overdrive.. Also as Johnny Marr said about the GT100 (Which is the bigger sized with more patches version) it ables you to have amp emulation at your feet.. However as far as the modulation effects are concerned, they don't have as much clarity and definition as the analog or stand alone pedals.. However the recent GT1000 and Helix could be game changers with the faster chips and sampling rates they have.

Banged on the old GT5 for six months this year, plugged into two 3watt Fly amps in stereo, and had a great time, not much low end though. Recon the Boss Katana has a few decades of tricks in it also. Takes a loop station in effects loop to, so awesome bit of kit. It's worth keeping the old stuff for fun sake.

      Dave certainly does his level best, but I think the overall vibe is "lowfi and broken". Probably not the greatest sounding pedal ever. I had one. And this video does a great job of communicating the available "palette" of tones. Wall O Mud. AM Radio. Trapped in Cardboard Box and Can't Get Out. You know. The classics.

    • @christophervincent8420
      @christophervincent8420 Před 4 lety +3

      Actually, its not being "trapped" by the sound. You are supposed to think outside the box while using what you have. I'm sure Eric Clapton was "trapped" with what he had? No, he used what he had to get the sounds he wanted. Be it modified, but mainly he used what he had. Those tones are amazing. I don't even have that.

      @socialdef3 Před 2 lety +1

      Did you read the manual for the G1? Many people don't, and base their discontent solely on the preprogrammed patches. Doesn't matter if its 1993 or 2033, you need to read the manuals and learn how to create your own sounds.... but whatever floats your boat.............

    Haha... I liked this a lot. Never had a 606 myself, but I owned a 707 sometime back in '99, and then later a (sadly almost never used) G7.1ut that's currently gathering dust behind me. I have a few of the mid-90's ones too, like the 8080, 4040, the legendary 9002 and the weird 7010 with a small built-in speaker. If I'm brutally honest, I never really bought any of these oldies to really use them. I just wanted to own them because they´re fascinating, cool and could be fun to explore. Yeah, I know.... they probably belong in the hands of someone who actually uses them... * hangs head in shame *
    Currently I'm using the small and very inexpensive G1Xon and actually managed to dial in a decent distorted Marshall sound through my monitors while watching your video. It's a nice little unit, but a bit limited with only five available slots for amp sim and effects. Some effects are cpu hungry, which then reduces the number of simultaneous effects to less than five, but it's usually enough for a decent basic sound, and I think it sounds pretty good. I plan to bring out the bigger and more capable G5 soon (old 2012 silver model) and re-program some of the G1 sounds there. It should, without a doubt, improve things. Thanks for showing us your trusty old 606. :)

    That weird noise was probably your neighbour blowing his brains out... Thought he'd broken that pedal years ago, but NO!!!!!!! All that programming would drive me nuts, but I'm indecisive. I think. I bought a rack mounting Zoom multi FX for recording in the 90s, mainly for the incredible array of reverbs. Rotary controls, rather than stabby buttons thankfully. Still have it. Haven't plugged it in in the last 20 years... Tempted... p.s., glad to see you've cheered up. Nobody fakes Gibson era Epiphones using Epiphone parts. Believe me, I'm the world's worst businessman and even I can see the flaw in that plan. Enjoy your good fortune.

    Dave, give the switches and jack plugs a quick spray with Servisol Super 10, and I bet you a pound to a pinch of s**t it'll quieten it all down.

    BTW, sorry to bring up that old Zoom G3X of mine again. Now I just don't bother using anything other than nothing, Boss clean, and the Fender Combo (twin reverb) amp models for clean tones and none of the other 21 amp models for anything. For me, when you treat the unit as a large collection of stomp box effects only, it seems to be much more useful coming from and going into just clean tones. Afterall, there are over 90 of them and it sounds good without modeling.

    If you have to add the zoom 606 to your pedalboard... it has to be done with some splitter pedal alone or you have a way to combine it with the other pedals?

    • @thedavesimpson

      I'd combine it. It plays very nicely with others. :)

      @@thedavesimpson I remember playing with the suboctaver and delay for massive orchestral sounds, but i don't know if i can use the octaver to simulate a bass in 2022... i love it anyways :)

    My first pedal was a Jackhammer, I turned everything to full blast, decided it was terrible and sold it. What an idiot I was.
