  • Did you know that around 8.3 billion tons of plastic have been created by humans since the 1950s and of that plastic waste only 9% has been recycled? This has created a huge, nearly ubiquitous, plastic problem for our planet. There is ever-growing plastic pollution in our oceans because of the excessive plastic use. Now governments are trying to fix it. Will they succeed? Watch to find out more.

This is so eye opening. I’ve started to be Waste free/plastic free. I’ve also realized where I live it’s very hard to be Waste free... We are basically forced to buy items bagged in plastic... I walk into my nearby stores and all you see is plastic... it’s sad to see now that I’ve become more aware of this, I wish and hope I could make a change in my city, we shouldn’t be forced to use plastic we should have a choice, we should have stores and companies be able to help us make a better choice and help us delete plastic forever. Yes damage has already been done but I don’t want to continue this either.

Sadly, most "heroes" out there are morons that push feel good bullshit in all honesty. Most people aren`t interested in the topic and so they buy bullshit from the news. I did some research on the topic and it turns out that 50%-90% (depending on the study) of the plastic that ends up in the world`s oceans comes from just 10 rivers.
Realistically the most environmentally friendly thing we can do right now is just have the US navy sail to the coast of said nations and just diplomatically bomb their harbors until they relent and agree to clean up their fresh water rivers. The public would never agree to this though since it sounds mean or "western colonialism" or some shit like that but it would contribute more than all the eco-friendly solutions proposed in the next 50 years combined.

How quickly does it wash off? I'm just wondering if this will increase the consumer useage of water. If it does then another problem is being created as the world is running low on fresh potable water. Some consumer reeducation may be needed. I know a few people that wash all fruits and vegetables, even the ones that require peeling, which is ridiculous.

The latest figure in 9 billion tons. I"m old enough to remember pre-plastic packaging, along with most everything else. Companies foist this stuff on us. For most everything, you either buy plastic products with or without plastic packaging or you don't shop. Food at farmer's markets can be bought without any plastic in the process - if you bring your cloth bag. that's also true with supermarket produce if you want.

Devika an Environmentalist. Please color code plastic by country of production. The source couold be identified and photo of plastic collected could be recorded to manufacturer. This would ensure the Green Hat Police to work on stricter state pollution controls. The Ban could be universal there by protecting Biodiversity

In Denmark we pay a little deposit on every plastic bottle we buy. Every grocery store has a receptacle you feed a used bottle back into (also glass). The machine crushes the plastic, ready for easy transport to recycling. You get a receipt for your bottles, and are paid at the checkout. Circular system, and I’ve never seen a plastic bottle in the environment. If there are, they are quickly snatched up by someone who could use the money, who then returns it and gets paid. Win-win! This system works….what not use it everywhere?

If this government is so interested in saving the planet, why doesn’t it lead the way and force the manufacturers of cell phones to conform to a modular charging system!
It will prevent having to acquire a new charger and cord for the new cell phone & throwing the old ones away.
Same chargers and same cords for all cell phones that can be used interchangeably.
Different new cell phone, same old charger and cord!

    Solution ingredients:
    1. Introduce law for plastic packaging to be priced at £/$/€ 1 per GRAMM
    Yes, just the one ingredient.
    Expected results:
    - Consumers will keep plastics to reuse. We never thow away valuables
    - Companies and corporations will introduce food/drinks dispensers to maximise profits as always
    - The wealthy few to afford £/$/€10 per GRAMM, will pay for cleaning up
    Example:
    2 litres of coca-cola = £/$/€ 3
    1 platic bottle (bottle+cap+labels) weighing 38 gramms = £/$/€ 38
    3+38= £/$/€ 41
I can afford to buy a bottle of coca-cola for £/$/€ 41. And i will keep that bottle safe for years. You can bank on it

Stop producing so much plastic packaging! Gives us buyers an alternative! Stop blaming the consumer and start blaming the manufacturers! We buy these items in plastic because that's what they sell the items in and then they blame the consumer for buying it!! 20's, 30's, 40's, and 50's we didn't have plastic. We used paper and glass which are recyclable. STOP BLAMING THE CONUMER AND PUT THE BLAME WHERE IT BELONGS!! ON THE CORPORATIONS THAT GET RICH FROM THE USE OF CHEAP PLASTICS!
