    I just had open heart surgery, 17 days ago. Bicuspid aortic valve, born with it. Never had any symptoms. If I hadn’t lost 100 lbs last year, they wouldn’t have touched it. Never had any symptoms until 6 weeks ago, they thought it was pneumonia. Keto saved my life.

    • @rhiahlMT
      @rhiahlMT Před 3 lety +17

      My husband had that surgery. It was hereditary condition, killed several of his relatives. When he complained in Iraq, they told him it was allergies. By the time they caught it, his aorta had thinned out so bad it was near rupturing. He did real well on the mechanical heart valve. He was a mechanic and if freaked him out. Said he fixed broken things and it was mechanical. I could hear it at night when he was sleeping. The surgery did well for him. VA caught the heart in 2006, but left him on a waiting list for a colonoscopy and he died of rectal cancer in 2014.

    I have passed this story on several times to people I know but not on a platform like this. My dad was 65 at the time, never smoked, barely drank more than beer or two at one time, wasn’t overweight, played tennis a couple times a week and could run me into the ground. Got a call, they hauled him to the hospital,got there, talked to the Dr and the first thing he asked me was did I know he had diabetes. I said no he told me that my dad thought he had a problem but hadn’t talked to dr or had any test. The heart attack was caused by the diabetes, did enough damage that changed his life that day. I’m not a dr but diabetes is by far very important to control.

    If you follow Dr. Berry's advice and read his book there is no need to see most physicians unless you break a bone or other trauma. Most will erroneously focus on TC and write an unnecessary and potentially dangerous Rx for a statin. There are DIY labs. Dr. Wm. Davis, a cardiologist, has online groups for info and has written excellent books. One needs to take their healthcare into their own hands and do research.

    This study is a huge breakthrough for the LCHF movement. There are so many clinical tries out there, which contain detailed lipid profiles before and after keto. Combine these records with this study, and it becomes pretty apparent that the "what about cholesterol?" nay-sayers have little ground to stand on. Hi Doc! I've just been to the cardiologist due to developing a heart arrhythmia, and when he aske about my diet I said that I have done keto for the past two years and am slowly switching to ketovore, and HE nearly had a heart attack! He has ordered me to stop all fat intake and eat nothing but whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. He says I am doing irreparable harm to my heart, and that my diet has caused my arrhythmia, even though all of my blood panels came back completely normal. I also did an echo cardiogram which showed absolutely no blockages. Now he wants to put me on blood thinners and statins, and I don't know what to tell him.

    Hello Dr. Berry from Reno NV. Have lost 40 pounds on strict keto in 3 months. Shifting more to trying carnivore version as I’m having difficulty getting my glucose levels to low normal. (Even with total carbs of 20-25) Still have 65 pounds to go to reach ideal weight. Learning so much from your videos. Pretty sure I have metabolic syndrome with insulin resistances. I was pre diabetic with A1C of 5.5. Feel so much better. Prepping to have brain surgery for benign brain tumor this summer and want to be in the best shape possible. I have had hypertension since 19 years old. (Currently 56 years). I feel so much better just after a few months. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise. Excited to try this next chapter.

She casually asked if I don’t take any statin for my cholesterol, I said, nope, I am not taking statins. She said, it’s okay. Your heart is clear, keep doing what you are doing. Just make sure monitor your cholesterol periodically. I said half year or one year I’ll do blood work. She agrees. So, my battle of taking no statins is over! This study demonstrates a clear dose response curve for the poison of carbohydrates. The initial risk of ingesting carbohydrates begins with elevated triglycerides, risk worsens as you develop metabolic syndrome, and risk is maximum when you are a full blown type two diabetic. I too am a physician, like Dr. Barry that is extremely frustrated with his colleagues that cannot see the relationship and are stuck in the failed hypothesis that heart disease is caused by cholesterol.

    Great summary Doc! I would just like to point out that many of those variables are not unrelated (such as obesity and type 2 diabetes for instance) and while I don't want to promote obesity or high LDL levels as "healthy" the numbers do suggest that in this case they both are riding piggyback on the really dangerous "cousins" type 2 and high triglycerides. Meaning: it may well be the case that the 1.6 riskfactir for high LDL evaporates if you control for triglycerides - and the risk for obese people isn't as high if they belong to the (very small) group that is obese without having type two or metabolic syndrome!

    • @doffmoffin
      @doffmoffin Před 3 lety

      I agree. I'm also pretty sure that I watched a video by Robert Lustwig where he claims that a study showed that if you control for diabetes (or did a GGT test or something like that) then obesity disappeared as a risk factor. I would also say that you can reverse diabetes and get the fat out of your liver before getting rid of all your excess fat (liver fat comes out first fortunately .. at least according to Dr Fung) in which case I would argue your remaining obesity is more a testimony to your previous high risk state not your current risk state.

    What if I don't have any risks other than elevated LDL (no high BP, no smoking, not overweight, no metS, no high TG). While the risk is relatively small, is there anything to get my LDL down that doesn't include not eating daily ribeye steaks?

    What about Lp(a)? About 20% of people have it - more in African Americans, less in Chinese or Japanese. Very arthrogenic and currently untreatable genetic issue. Can cause aortic stenosis, and peripheral artery disease. ALL other risk factors need to be reduced as much as possible.

    I have no diabetes, body fat less than 20%, super fit active lifetsyle, non smoking, non of the hazardous indicators.
    I got a LCX heart attack on 20 Aug 2023 (on 8 Aug 2023 I did 90 push-ups in one go without any significant stress)
    Upon echo found that my LAD is blocked since 1 years plus.
    Now my LVEF is 30%. However I feel 9/10 still.
    How do Improve my LVEF?
    (Echo doc Said chances of LAD scar viability is low - will do PET in 2 weeks)
