  • Guns N Roses and Velvet Revolver fans will undoubtedly be familiar with the guitar that Slash named Jessica. Jessica has been Slash's main stage guitar since 1988. The original Jessica was a factory second and one of two Les Paul guitars that Gibson sent to Slash in the late 80s. Now Gibson is proud to introduce a new model based on Slash's old favourite!

Im confused…i recently (summer of 2023) bought a brand new Gibson Les Paul standard 60s, Unburst finish (looks like a lightly flamed honey burst). My 60s LP standard 2023 (brand new purchase) also has no weight relief (8.5 lbs , got lucky lol) but it came with the pickguard installed from factory (wouslnt have to drill your $4000 guitar if liked a guard lol). Also rather then this 3 piece looking top, the 60s Lp standard has a AA-figured top , also differences are grover tuners stock & obvs a 60s slimmer neck (i prefer that profile as my gibson SG std. of 20 yrsalso has 60s neck). Only thing i liked better about the 50s or slash models were the pickups…i like the Alnico 2’s vs the stock 61’ burstbuckers my LP comes with.
That being said, i ordered the Seymour Duncan Slash 2.0 Alnico II pro set of pups & have them installed in my LP (all these LPs have same orange drop caps & 50s style wiring). So now that my les paul 60s standard unburst look better then the Victoria Slash model (at least to me, i prefer pickguard and chrome/nickle covers on pups), and now that they ive upgraded my pups to what i guess slash actually has in his axes..the Seymour Duncan Slash 2.0’s alinco 2 pros. Jw am i crazy for thinking if i wanted the Slash sound, my LP vs this video LP could get rhe same tones or if mine are more accurate? Also i think my Unburst finish looks much nicer then no pickguard & seeing a 3 piece top.

    • @user-cd2cz3tv3u

@@BaroloBartolo seemed like a Gibson money grab to sell a cheaper/uglier (3 piece top, some look very bland), with just gibsons alnico 2 pups and what ive heard is a little slimmer then the 50s neck.
Why would me or anyone pay more for a replica of a factory 2nd with pickups that are not accurate to Slashes real pups, when i can pay about $500 less for a 50s/60s standard (depends what neck profile u like, i played an SG for 20 yrs so i like 60s slim taper neck and lucked out with a nice Unburst AA maple top & no weight relief only weighs 8.5lbs (made in april of 2023). Very beautiful top, and with that $500 i saved by not buying this Slash model, i used that money to buy Seymour Duncan Slash 2.0’s alnico II humbuckers and put those bad boys in, and i still have the 61’ Bustbuckers if i ever feel like swapping. Not to mention the standards come with pickgaurd installed (i wouldnt want to drill into a $5000 guitar if i wantes to put my pickguard on, vs if i wanna take mine off its just a few screws i gotta twist off. Also this Slash Jessica has the same 50s style wiring with orange drop caps …just like the standards, and alnico 2 gibson made pups, not the real deal SD Slash pups. And to really put the iceing on the cake…the frets nibs pop out and are not covered smoothly by the binding , like the standards.
Plus the top finish is sub-par vs the AA Figured Maple top…the 60s unburst (especially if u find a nice one, looks like a honey-burst sorta mixed with lemmon burst? Looks different with diff angles/lighting, but def has some flames and a beautiful red stained 60s slim tapered neck. Got the jimmy page grover tuners (i think it looks slicker with all silver shinny new hardware + i prefer the pickguard on, i would never drill into the side and top of a 4500-5000$ guitar to install a pickguard, where as i can take mine off and put it on with a simple gibson multi-tool given to you. Also i personally like on this finish, chrome/nickle plated pups, but i believe i can always even take those off…the cream pups blend in too much with that unburst-honeyburst type finish. Just letting ppl know it makes more sense and your getting a better product if you buy a standard thats got binding on the neck that covers the fret nibs, you habve a choice of 50s wider neck or 60s slim tapered neck (both feel good but i love the 60s) + pickguard installed and a set of either BB 1&2’s or 61’ BB’s…with a hardshell case thats exactly the same as this jessica case. I believe theyre both non weight relieved (i know for fact the 50s & 60s standards have no weight relief) and do not sell you a factory 2nd with 3 piece top & like i said if u want ur picguard on..enjoy drilling into a guitar this expensive, vs the standards that come with guards installed and only 2 small screws to remove if not your style. Also as far as pickups..gibson didnt do the right thing & put in slashes Seymour Duncan Alnico II pups which hes been using since the 80’s lol. For approx $500 less as i said, you get a nicer Les Paul overall (proper neck binding, pickguard installed, AA figured maple top ..not a reissue of a factory 2nd lol). With the $400-500 i saved, i ended up buying a set of Seymour Duncan Slash 2.0 alnico II pros (just little more output then his AFD pups but same everything else according to seymour duncan & why slash asked for “a little louder guitar, but without adding distortion or etc.”. Seems to me with that $500 i saved from not falling for this money grab , you can get a nicer built or looking Les Paul and if you want Slashes actual pups, you can buy them & put them in , & that would still a tad cheaper, or same price as this Jessica..a factory 2nd rissue with improper pups and a 3 piece top thats not a burst really..its basically a 3 piece honey top lol. People shoild know before buying gibson offers higher quality in ccertain ways on their standards and with the $ saved you can buy the legit same slash pups he uses lol, no fret nibs (thats well bound on standards necks), and i also own back up Gibson 61’ Burst buckers & the SD slash 2.0’s in my guitar. All that for the same price this jessica would come out to $ wise.
