Ancelotti had a glittering playing career as well, winning back multiple European Cups and Serie A titles with Milan, plus another Serie A title with Roma.
Enjoying a hugely successful and trophy laden playing career, followed by a hugely successful, trophy laden and historic managerial career, must feel very special.
If there are any small weaknesses on his managerial CV, it would be the fact that he ‘only’ won 1 Serie A title across 10 complete seasons with Juve and Milan.

5:56: Just to keep the record straight - it was a year 1 round of 16 loss to Monaco, who went onto play Juve that year in the semis. City were eliminated in the R16. That's kind of why City breaking their quarterfinal voodoo under Pep against Dortmund last year was such a big deal. So, in all actuality under Pep's 5 and something years, City has reached 2 semis, out of which they only reached the final once. Under normal circumstances, that's not terrible. However, given the investment, I can see why the criticism is warranted. On the other hand, Real Madrid have reached 10 of the last 12 semi-finals - an impressive statistic on its own.

Man City, like most teams, are much better as front runners. The last caller was right, in that, if they are not up 4-0, 3-0 scoring perfect team goals, there's a sense of disappointment. That is, without doubt, a testament to their elite overall quality. However, the required style of total control and domination of possession gets body-checked when going against the best of the best. You have to be able to switch gears and defend.
After Benzema's PK, Real Madrid took off their top 2 front players and buckled down on defense. And everyone knew, without a doubt, that Real Madrid would finish the job. You simply have to be able to do that.
To be fair, Man City did it against Atletico, although Atletico did not finish multiple chances to equalize the tie. Man City's best CL performance this year was the 0-0 away fixture at Atletico. They have to channel that game mentally and tactically moving forward in the CL.

Comparing him to Fergie (and I'd probably say Fergie is the greatest of all time), I think there's an argument to suggest doing it at so many different clubs in different cultures is more impressive. Fergie was afforded a stability that few managers get where, when it came to rebuild, he was given what he needed and could plan ahead knowing he'd likely still be in the job a year or two on. He also lucked out with the class of '92, which largely provided the spine of his teams for over a decade.

I maybe the only person who doesn't rate Fergie so high. Yes he was a great manager but God know + all real football fans knows how much help that man got from the PL referees & FA throughout
I give him credit for rebuilding teams but 26years & only 2CL ,also 4finals that's not elite......26 years damn.... for me in this Era after the 1990
It's 1)PEP - that man change the way football ⚽️ is played & everyone follow that model to this day
2)Ancelotti- yes he manage big players but every manager can't get the best out of big players & that is highly proven. The man has the right name to justify his greatness "Don Carlo"
3)Klopp - just look at where he started to manage & how every player he manage massive improve, from taking a 3mil pound Lewandowski to the best striker the world has ever seen & could rival all other manager past or present, the "Normal One" is just to damn good.
4)Fergie - yes as I stated he rebuilt winning teams, 13PL, massive achievement with Aberdeen, never coach only manage + was good at mind games also.
5)Jose - bring Proto through & winning the CL, made Chelsea who they are now always competing, helping Inter win 3 🏆 🏆 🏆 in one season, over coming the best footballing team the world has ever seen in Barcelona,.not only that but getting a 100 points too, managing the worst team he has ever had in Manchester united & still winning 2trophies....hey he had way more against him than Fergie.
The English bias mention Fergie as a great is because it's England duh!!!!

I go on about this a lot and get a lot of hate but I'll say it here: the fact people call tuchel elite amazes me. Elite is meant for a handful of managers who have done extremely special things. Carlo, pep, klopp, mouriniho, Ferguson, wenger, conte have all done extremely special things and their achievements dwarf tuchels. These are what you call elite a mangers, have done it in different leagues or like Ferguson and wenger had major consistency. Tuchel had a huge amount to prove before being called elite.

    • @SDCLFC1

I think their use of the elite is different from the words great or legendary.
Mourinho is one of the greatest managers of the modern era but is now no longer one of the game's elite managers.
What they're saying elite is are managers who will be picked up by the biggest clubs with the biggest checkbooks and who are expected to win every competition they are in.
It's also very Premier League-centric because that's where the best teams and managers are at the moment. It's where managers get paid the most and so a top team in that league is where every manager in the world would want to manage if they could.

I am an Arsenal fan and will say this, much to the delight of Man Utd fans. First of all, I hate Man Utd, and I enjoy their current plight, I won't lie, having suffered in the late 90s and 00s. But...but I am going to shock Man Utd fans - SAF is the greatest, Ancelotti doesn't even usurp him at all. He can win as many Champs Lge titles, but no where near SAF. SAF built 3 teams, first the Class of 92, then in the mid-00s and then his final team, although the less said about them the better. Ancelotti, he had a ready made team and won trophies with them, maybe Milan is the only team which wasn't ready made and he genuinely built them. But Ancelotti already had a team for him. So not only Ancelotti, but anyone who compares to SAF is wrong. That man built teams and made them winners. So there you have it, debate over.

Pep is the best cheque book manager ever, 6 year 1 champs league final ZERO champs league winner medals.... he was brought in to win the CL end of and hes failed every time. He is a cheque book manager who only goes to the super rich clubs to win leagues. Man city are a good team, not great and its nothing to do with tiredness like one caller eluded to. Its due to the fact that Pep tells them how to play, the players have no initiative on how to play as there like robots. Ancelotti is a better manager than Pep ever will be.

Anceloti had to learn different cultures of football and languages in different countries and won national titles of those countries, in spanish, Geraman, English and Italian, 3 champions leagues countless of finals, two fifa club worldcups, etc, no contest! Ferguson stayed at one club for 20 years won only two champions leagues, speaking one language, we can argue he would struggle elsewhere with a different culture of football and different language! Murinho then Pep then Klopp, my opinion
