  • "For One And For All" is a song written by Ashford Nicholas and Valerie Simpson.
Diana Ernestine Earle Ross is an American singer, actress and record producer. Born and raised in Detroit, she rose to fame as a founding member and lead singer of the vocal group The Supremes, which, during the 1960s, became Motown's most successful act and is to this day America's most successful vocal group. As part of the Supremes, Ross most notably rivalled the career of The Beatles in worldwide popularity, and their success made it possible for future African American R&B and soul acts to find mainstream success. Following her departure from The Supremes in 1970, she released her debut solo album, Diana Ross, which contained the hits "Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand)" and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". Ross also ventured into acting, with a Golden Globe Award and Academy Award nominated performance in Lady Sings the Blues. Later starring in two other big screen films, Mahogany and The Wiz. Later acting included roles in the television films Out of Darkness and Double Platinum.
Beside ventures in Broadway, Ross was named the "Female Entertainer of the Century" by Billboard magazine. In 1993, the Guinness Book of World Records declared Ross the most successful female music artist in history due to her success in the United States and United Kingdom for having more hits than any female artist in the charts with a career total of 70 hit singles with her work with the Supremes and as a solo artist. Ross has sold more than 100 million records worldwide when her releases with the Supremes and as a solo artist are tallied.
In 1988, Ross was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as member of the Supremes alongside Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson. She is the recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors in 2007 and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.
On July 21, 1983, Ross performed a concert in Central Park for a taped Showtime special. Proceeds of the concert would be donated to build a playground in the singer's name. Midway through the beginning of the show, a torrential downpour occurred. Ross tried to keep on performing, but the severe weather required that the show be stopped. Ross urged the large crowd to exit the venue safely, promising to perform the next day.
The second concert held the very next day was without rain. The funds for the playground were to be derived from sales of different items at the concert; however, all profits earned from the first concert were spent on the second. When the mainstream media discovered the exorbitant costs of the two concerts, Ross faced criticism and poor publicity. Although her representatives originally refused to pay anything for the proposed playground, Ross herself later paid, out of pocket, the $250,000 required to build the park. The Diana Ross Playground was finally built three years later. The Diana Ross Playground at 83rd and Central Park West is a beautiful assortment of wood structures and classic outdoor children's gym obstacles making it a lovely addition to the park.
All for one and one for all
You live, you give, you have a ball
There's no need to live on an island
'Cause everyone here respects your opinion
It all adds up to, it's your strength we need
So get behind and push, if you don't want to lead
'Cause it's all for one and one for all
You live, you give, you have a ball
I don't know your future plans
But divided I'm sure you will not stand
I said, All that to say there's an easier way
If it's love that we share then there's no debt to pay
'Cause we are all down here under the sky
Won't you try? Won't you try?
    We're all down here
    You're not alone
You've been pushing and pulling and shoving
Since the day you were born so let's try
All for one and one for all
You live, you give, you have a ball
And a smile will appear on your face
'Cause suddenly, suddenly the world is a beautiful place
'Cause it's all for one and one for all
You live, you give, you have a ball
All for one and one for all
You live, you give, you have a ball

Think about it. Diana Ross. A Global Superstar in 1983.One of the biggest in the world. She is in Central Park with literally a million people at a free concert. This quite literally the one chance most of the people there would have to see a major entertainer. A legend. And it meant something to HER. She was emotionally connected to THEM> This was about her as a human being. No one can ever say Diana does not have a heart and a soul. She loves her people.

Omg I was wondering if one of y’all would pop up on here! How was it?? That was the good old days and there were no fights or shootings in Central Park in those two days the concert was thrown because I remember day one one was rained out, it was one of the best shows I saw on showtime with my family when I was a child..how old were you

    • @SassyBratt1
      @SassyBratt1 Před 6 lety +4

It was fabulous the day after but eerie the night before with the rain. I remember being scared to death of the black sky and the thick humidity in the air, smell of marijuana through the crowd was overwhelming , it felt like there would be a tornado , the wind and rain swooped in and people were antsy nervous. All was well the next day..Diana's voice boomed so loud and it was a very different vibe than the night before. The concert was great but I wished the night time one was not spoiled because I was closer to the stage..the next day I was more center of the crowds. 18 years old and will never forget Diana and the girl behind me who dressed like her and kept wanting to scan my souvenir booklet of Diana that I bought. Great summer of 1983!
