  • Diana Ross Truly HATED Him More Than Anyone..
The Temptations and the Supremes were the supergroups of the Motown Dynasty. The groups were formed in 1959 in their hometown of Detroit, Michigan, as the Primes and the Primettes. When they were signed to Motown in 1961, they took on the names that they would be forever known as. 1964 was the breakthrough year for both, as the Supremes’ “Stop in the Name of Love” and the Temptations’ “My Girl” both crossed over in a major way, in many ways being the singular examples of Berry Gordy’s idea of black musical groups embodying the “sound of young America”.

You don't know what u r talking about,Berry wanted to propell Diana out front because she had the voice to cross over to the mainstream white population, which was a great move, profit wise plus he was in love with her had a love afair,no problem with that the concern i have why push the other singers to the back , made them feel less important ,Flo felt that they started out equal ,let's stay equal, why allow your love afair changed that, this crushed flo ,she had an amazing soulful singing voice and she was making plans to start her career, then she developed that blood clot in her lungs which was fatal,Berry and Diana was responsible for her pain.@@migrain45

I worked as a security guard and guide at large casino in Connecticut for 8 years, and I met and spent lots of time with numerous performers (music and comedy) and the ONLY one that was ever an actual problem was Diana Ross. You were instructed by her management even before she arrived to not speak to her unless she spoke to you first, not even a “hello”. There was a long list of do’s and don’ts that we got. Lots of artists have a “rider”, which is a list of demands or suggestions (it’s usually stuff that’s easily doable anyway), but her rider was takes the cake. I will say that she must take good care of her health, because she looks incredible up close. All of her entourage looked very serious, none of them looked happy.
The majority of famous people I’ve met were very nice, but my favorite was Joan Rivers. She was extremely friendly and (as you might expect) funny, and she would go around and give all kinds of candy to everyone that worked there. Out of the blue she would ask you about your life, your family. I asked her who had the worst reputation out of all the places she’s played and hotels she’s stayed at, and before I could even finish my question she said “Diana Ross! No contest!”. She said that Diana Ross was legendary for being extremely difficult and nasty, and that it wasn’t just rumors, it was a fact. Joan did swear like a trucker offstage as well, so I won’t repeat exactly what she said on here.

WRONG! The Primes were Kell Osborne, Eddie Kendricks (Tenors), and Paul Williams (Baritone). They formed in 1955 as the Cavaliers with bass Willy Waller. Willy left quickly after the group’s formation, then Kell left in 1960 to go solo (had some minor success), and finally Eddie was called upon by Otis to join him, Blue, and Al in a new group. Eddie suggested to Otis during this phone call that Paul join too. Otis agreed due to being familiar with Eddie and Paul’s act, they joined in 1960 and that was it. This group became the Elgins which later became the Temptations in 1961. Al would be fired in late 1963 and David Ruffin would join thereafter, around December of 63.

I don't know Diana Ross personally or the "other singers" who complained about her. I do know, that when you are on top, folks try to pull you down for whatever reason. Was she Berry's favorite....YES, YES, YES. I read his autobiography and he stated he loved her talent and work ethic more than anything else. He wanted to create a black superstar and he felt Diana was his ticket to do it. As a fan, I can only judge her as a performer. As a performer, she delivers! As for her "feud" with David Ruffin.... all I can say is Ruffin's career stalled long before his death. As for Diana Ross, she's still out there PERFORMING!

Diana cared about herself she had no loyalty toward her fellow bandmates. No empathy and no concern as long as she could shine. And she gave, little if any noticeable credit to them for bringing her as far as she got before she decided to abandon them. Talking about her in front of her face was telling the truth about her actions out loud and not hiding how they felt. I never liked her and still don't. As one could see when you watched her perform with the others, she was a scene stealer. Gordy Favoritizem didn't help anybody but her. The man mixed business with pleasure only to be left behind as well when she found a more lucrative partner. She didn't care about him or love him either. I wonder if he ever realized that.

She kinda looked down on them, feeling they weren't on her high society level, and Barry didn't make it any better with his favoritism. I've never understood the whole "Ross slept her way to the top" or "she was a prima donna who used her connection to Berry Gordy to look down on other performers." Ross was the lead vocalist of the best selling group at Motown. The Supremes were the first black performers to sell over a million records three years in a row. After only six years they amassed 12 #1 hits. Ross' very real power at Motown really stemmed from her ability to make enormous amount of money for the company. If anyone truly benefited from this arrangement it was Gordy. Ross was 18 when she signed with Motown, Gordy was 34. The Supremes signed a contract that gave them five cents on the dollar that they then split three ways! If Gordy encouraged her to view herself as special it was probably compensation for the low pay she and the other girls were getting.

David Ruffin was known to be a nasty piece of work and treated TammiTerrell very badly when he was going out with her. He was very controlling.
In 1962, the 17-year-old Terrell became involved in an abusive relationship with singer James Brown, who was 12 years older than her. One night in 1963, Terrell left Brown, after he assaulted her for not watching his entire performance. Bobby Bennett, a former member of the Famous Flames, witnessed the incident, saying: "He beat Tammi Terrell terrible. She was bleeding, shedding blood. Tammi left him because she didn't want her butt whipped."
In 1966, Terrell then started a romance with The Temptations lead singer David Ruffin. That year, Terrell accepted Ruffin's marriage proposal
and announced it onstage only to find that he was already married with a wife, three children, and another girlfriend in Detroit..
This and Ruffin's drug addiction led to several violent arguments. In 1967, Terrell ended their relationship after Ruffin hit her in the head with his motorcycle helmet. Tragically she died at the age of 24 in 1970 of a brain tumour.
However, i can see why Diana Ross would have problems with him.

David Ruffin once said, Diana walks around with a mattress on her back! She stalked Eddie kendricks. Detroit never forgot how she backstabbed so many people up here and had the nerve to come to Flo's funeral. Detroit let her ass know how they felt for Flo and how she treated FLO! it's still sour between her and Detroit. Plus it was not enough room for her, Aretha, Florence, Glady's Knight in Detroit! Aretha remained dominat as Detroit's favorite rightly so! Smokey, Stevie still show Detroit love! Diana Family is still here, she didn't even come to her brother's funeral! The other tragedy, it was Flo who came up with the name Supremes.

David Ruffin was such a gifted a talented entertainer i can see her hating David Ruffin. The only thing that held David Ruffin back was David Ruffin . Just face the fact , David Ruffin had complete control of the audience when he sung. He was one of the most exciting men who ever graced the stage. Diana Ross was definitely a great singer , but she couldn't mesmerize the audience like David. He sung a song called a precious love in a tenor tone of voice , I thought it was Eddie Kendricks. Then he sung statue of a man in baritone. The only thing that held him back was his ego.

This is what happens when u have someone behind you. In my opinion her work ethic and determination to want more was overshadowed by the fact that she was romantically involved with Gordy. In the public eye it’s gonna be the reason for her success was because of Berry and not that she worked hard to get there. Look at Beyonce I remember her days with Destinys Child people said she was in favor because her father was manager of the group, and she has special treatment. Look at Mariah Carey in the 90s despite the fact that she is great singer, was talented and worked hard she got special treatment because of her husband Tommy Motolla the CEO of Sony.

She did vocal arrangement for "So Close," an underappreciated masterpiece. I loved Florence and Mary but where is the proof that Florence had this amazing voice? Buttered Popcorn? Mary had the best record on the Farewell album with "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" so why did Terrell then take over as lead? Up The Ladder to the Roof " is a top 5 Supremes song of all time. There was no on going beef between Diana and David. Diana was in her own lane off in stardom and David was with the temptations dealing with his issues and then dealing with his addiction issues. I certainly doubt, either was thinking about beefing with the other or hating. Besides, if you are a researcher or fan of Diana Ross , you know she has never
been one to focus on negativity. She's too focused on her family and living a positive life. The proof in that we can see from watching her today.

Can we even expect better from a channel using a blatant AI clone voice of Tracey Ellis Ross in most of their videos? Using that same voice to do a hit piece on Diana Ross really takes the cake. I hope Tracey is able to stop these channels from using an AI likeness of her voice (Joe Rogan also BTW). This should be illegal.

It's so unfair the way people are still criticizing Diana Ross when truth be told there was no blueprint to be followed. She was the first Black woman on television receiving that type of exposure so when people criticized her behavior there was no way of knowing her behavior was wrong when there were no other black girls in those spaces before her; I honestly believe it wasn't that they were being told to only ask Diana I believe white interviewers chose to ask Diana because she was the voice that they heard upfront and I believe her voice and its quality is what made those Supreme songs work due to its unique nasal tone that was colorless; Florence voice and especially Mary's voices sounded like Black girls Diana's voice made those Supreme songs crossover RnB and ultimately pop songs; if Diana wasn't sleeping with Berry her voice would have still been upfront because it was unique; when they were on Lupine Records Diana Ross voice was also lead on Lupine Records released songs and not Flo's voice and Milton Jenkins built the group around Flo yet they also chose not to use Flo as the lead; this was the 60s not the 2000s black music makers were attempting to crossover into the pop market back then which was not being done and Diana had that unique voice that others didn't similar to the way Dionne Warwick had a unique tone that other black girls of the time didn't have and it allowed them to crossover. I believe Mary and Florence made Diana's life miserable with their paranoia against her and keep in mind these were very young women behaving like young women accusing Diana of things based on hearsay and beyond her control; people neglect to say that Berry told the girls to return only after they graduate which lead by Diana they returned a few months later because Diana graduated at 15 her sophomore year due to her taking on extra classes; the other two never graduated they would have never been signed if left to them. In those days when black people released music when they released those same songs in Europe typically a white artist would cover the song that wasn't done with the Supremes those songs were never covered by whites they were released with Diana's voice and that was unheard of and a huge leap forward for all Black singers and Diana Ross opened that door; people forget Mrs Ross was the Motown chaperone when they went on those early tours while underage not the other mother's Mrs Ross they would never have been part of the Motown Revues again if not for Diana and Diana never missed a days work performance or studio while the other two parties all the time; none of this is talked about only Mary's criticism and keep in mind Mary had Flo forced out of the group in the final meeting when Berry asked "Mary do you think Flo should leave the he group?" and Mary responded "Flo wants to leave the group" and with that it was unanimous there was no need to ask anyone else when Mary spoke for Flo; but that part Mary NEVER tells..

As far as I have learned Diana Ross wasn't thinking about any of this stuff. She was too focused on her own success and kept it moving. Also, from a musical arrangement standpoint, the key signature of the song, "I Know I'm Losing You" had to be transposed into a key that all of the members could perform; not to low for The Supremes and not too high for The Temptations. The great thing about Mr Ruffin's vocal prowess is that he had a very extensive vocal range and in the key they chose for that Ed Sulivan performance, he had to sing with more power than usual, which naturally would have overshadowed Diana Ross's soprano voice. There was of course one more television performance for these two groups, but by that time Mr Ruffin had succeeded in being ousted from The Temptations.. Professionally, these two singers really didn't have much to do with one another.

However, she put in the work and she delivered. I believe she wasn’t not getting a great deal of financial compensation. She was a stockholder at Motown I read. Someone will correct me if incorrect.
