  • Dr. Jordan Peterson is a man who hardly needs to be introduced. With millions of loyal fans and followers, many of whom claim that he radically transformed their lives for the better, Peterson is widely loved and despised.
    John has been honoured to sit down for several interviews with Jordan over the years. In this clip, they discuss the worrying modern revival of ideas that history has condemned time and time again.

    Two of our four sons (18 and 21 years old), both went off the rails somewhat, into drugs and nihilism (not hard in today's world), and they both stumbled onto Jordan Peterson independently and both have straightened out and got their shit together, and are helping keep their other brothers out of trouble. This is not something religious, or cult like, it's just common bloody sense advice.

    • @davidward3848
      @davidward3848 Před 3 lety +5

      Politics is centered around identity. Sharing a common bond of blood, faith, ideology, comradery, and virtue is what identity is. Being a rootless, atomized, cosmopolitan individual will get you nowhere, and is not an identity.
      Power comes from individuals with an understanding of what they are, where they have come from, and where they are going. Power comes from seeking a good reputation amongst men like yourself. Power is holding sway with those men. Power is getting those men to fight and die for you. That is real power.
      If the men of the west, men of the west being men descended from European stock, do not have a will to power and reformulate our identity we will be wiped from the face of the earth, along with the cultural achievements that are fundamental to our people.

    • @davidward3848
      @davidward3848 Před 3 lety +4

      @Right To Bear Herbs your supposed values have failed the human species, specifically the west. All your "values" did was atomized people down to the individual level. They removed the western man from societies predicated around common beliefs, legal president, heritage, religion, ideals, values, a common tongue, national identity, and community. Even now the idea of rallying around identity becomes so fundamentally taboo it has become the prime evil of our modern society, specifically white people rallying around their common identity, and heritage. I'm also going to push back on the idea that race is inherently based around skin pigmentation. That is verifiably false. The races differ, because of genetics, in fundamental ways. Everything from hormone levels, height, brain size, susceptibility to disease or infection, the size of the different sub components of the brain, average intelligence, bone and muscle density, temperment, propensity for aggression, the probability of suffering from cold or hot weather related injuries, different types of physical abilities, different types of mental abilities, pain tolerance, propensity for empathy, etc. Race is more than your skin color.

    • @davidward3848
      @davidward3848 Před 3 lety +2

      @Right To Bear Herbs any sort of national identity is collectivism, and a society can exist on a spectrum, or even a balance between collectivism and individualism. I'm not advocating for the utter removal of individual thought or desire, but there needs to be a balance, and even more than that. There needs to be a common national identity, and a sort of community spirit in a country. This is why libertarianism has failed in the US. The only kind of person who is attracted to the libertarian world view is the kind of person who reads economic papers in their free time and can be addicted to heroin and still go to work on time. It is a very niche ideology that doesn't have the answers to all questions, or even most of them. It is an ideology that causes atomization. It breaks apart a potential shared community spirit, and replaces it with "fuck everybody else, all I care about is me." It is nihilism, and nihilism is the cancer that is eating at the heart of western society, a sort of immunodeficiency syndrome. The organism cannot fight back, nor does it have the reasoning too. What does it matter if the people that have historically made and sustained western civilization disappear from the earth? My values will remain! What exactly is your values? Permit people to commit themselves to self destruction, and to take advantage of those incapable of understanding that they are being taken advantage of? There is no such a thing as a victimless crime. A father, a husband, a brother, a grandpa dying from overdoes due to an opioid addiction because he has crippling pain due to his work? Oh you have pain well take these medications, they will make you feel better. Sure they maybe highly addictive and have a low lethal dose but that's fine. He agreed to this, don't you know? This is moral. Having drugs, and rampant hedonism break apart the nation all to benefit a small group of people and their interests.

    • @davidward3848
      @davidward3848 Před 3 lety +2

      @Right To Bear Herbs America has never been free nor is it a free nation. The "founding fathers" cared more about getting their financial backers happy than supporting the agrarian farmers and such. In fact George Washington marched an army to put down an insurgency of Veterans who were pissed of that they weren't given their entitlements. Ever heard of shays rebellion? Those men were put into debt because of needing to borrow money to try to support their farms and in doing so many of them sold their IOUs to financiers or speculators just to try to get as much money as possible. Ever heard of the bonus army? WW1 vets wanted their entitlements earlier than they were supposed to get them, because of the great depression. 10s of thousands of people marched on washington to get their entitlement. Do you know how the government responded? By sending in George Patton with cavalry and armored cars to beat and burn the camp the marchers set up in DC.
      What's next are you going to tell me that you would use guns to fight the government? No you wont. If you would, you would've already done it by now but you aren't. Why? Because you are complacent. You don't fundamentally oppose the modern system, therefore you find no reason in fighting it.

So in that sense over the long term the poorest people in an unequal society will end up materially better off than the average person in an egalitarian society. @Johnny G Well, lets try to make it simple, shall we?
      Words have power, the best example is how "swearing" or "cursing" originally only involved religious "holy" word. Because they are not repeated outside of liturgic context (wow! youtube does not recognize that word? ... Shows the level of education over there, eh?) they are "powerful". Repeating said words out of context “wanes it of its potency". Best modern example is the word "raci-st" (is that even allowed on the tube nowaday?)
      Take for example how youd get emotionally attacked by "go Fark yourself" but not by "Get the hell out". Words convey ideas and these ideas shape our world view.
      Anyhow, by changing the meaning of words, one changes the perception one has of said world. Words are "delivery trucks" of meaning and the language (including grammar!) is a system allowing us to interpret our reality.
      A good example is the Chinese word 外国人 which literally translate as "people of outside the country" that would be "foreigner" in English (foreign, as in “unknown but discoverable). That affects our perception of these "people" and our behaviour with them。
      Ie. English speaking people tend to be more curious or see exoticism in what is from ”another place".
      Because the word we use to describe these people tend to have a mysterious/enticing connotation.
      The words we use show our personality, notice how your close friends all use different words to talk about the same topic, they build a vocabulary that best represent their interpretation of the world around them.
      Make the test, ask three friends to describe the same object and see how the words they use differ.
      Anyway, words are power, and one has to be careful how one proceed when using such tool.
      I could go on forever and make far more lengthy explanations, but I'll keep it to that for now.

    He only became "problematic" when calling out the extreme and dangerous views exploding from academia into society.

I'd never considered myself a real part of it but, nonetheless, it was gone. I think that happened roughly ten years ago, give or take five years. My maternal grandfather was sent to Siberia where he served for 6 years. The starvation as stated by Jordan was very accurate. And the whole time the Communists blamed the West, Capitalism, traitors to the state, the rich (Last one when there was no rich anymore). This was enforced by making women have abortions, so it wasn't a personal choice. Ask Tibet and Hong Kong how happy they are being ruled by dictators.

    The main problem with socialism, in all its varied forms, lies in its erroneous belief in the perfectibility of mankind. This belief leads to a powerful desire to transform society so that this perfection may be achieved. Frequently this idealism begins with good intentions, but it is the pursuit of this imagined ideal which inevitably leads to totalitarianism, suppression of citizens, state-surveillance, poverty, violence, destruction and often death on an industrial scale.
    There is not, and never has been, any country on earth which has ever imposed a socialist political system upon its citizens without causing a significant diminution in justice, tolerance, wealth, liberty and human happiness.
    Socialism is an unworkable ideology. We have incontrovertible evidence of its failure in the millions of corpses left in the wake of its pursuit. It’s a social/political experiment which has universally failed. It promises fairness and equality, but always delivers corruption, injustice and tyranny.

    • @Krathify
      @Krathify Před 3 lety +7

      Yes, the fact that men and woman can never be perfect is especially true in those that grab power in these socialist societies. Ironic that the WORSE humanity has to offer are always the ones leading those who seek the greatest perfection of humanity through this erroneous ideology. It’s the devil’s hilarious joke.

    • @Krathify
      @Krathify Před 3 lety +1

      Shaz having things does not equal utopia as much as it is simply the state of almost all human nature. Socialism and communism, as ideologies and the philosophy of post modernist thinking they are based in are defined in how they can achieve ultimate happiness. Redefining rationality as an enemy of the mind and feelings and personal gratification as the only reality worth anything. A general sense of human equality guiding the ‘morals’ of these ideologies. In the philosophical terms it would fit the concept of utopian societies.

      It is hard to argue about socialism, because is means so many different things to different people. Are we talking about economic socialism or political socialism. Do you consider the Scandinavian countries to be socialist? If you do, I would argue that they have failed and are not tyrannical. Left ideals can lead to tyranny and far right ideals to fascism, maybe it is a reasonable middle ground that we need. There is no perfect ideology or system, all of them have there downsides.
