A lot of British had left for religious reasons to live in Germany during the time of Charles II, and many families were looking to return to some aspect of English life, so the German tradition persisted up until the Hessians of the American Revolution, and Moravian Protestant communities for a century after were integrating with the people that lived in the colonies to establish families. I had an ancestor from Germany with an English surname who fought for the colonialist against the British and I visited one of the earliest homes built in Tennessee that still resided in its original footprint, where he lived out his life (Nicholas Gibbs Historical Society in Corryton, Tennessee, near Knoxville.)

maybe this one. The Moncure Daniel Conway House in Falmouth, Virginia was built in 1807. The house has a flounder roof giving the appearance of half of a house.
I included it in the video on Falmouth that I made a while back but yeah I should probably go out and make a standalone one so I can add more information.
Stumbled on this video accidentally when looking for something else and enjoyed it - especially the drone footage. The two framed documents signed by Govs. Spotswood and Gooch are the original naturalization certificates of 1717 immigrants Nicholas Yager and Adam Yager who were father and son respectively. They are the only known original naturalization certificates held by Germanna colonists of either group to still exist. Jacob Holtzclaw of the 1714 group had his recorded in Spotsylvania County (Order Book 1724-1730: 79). We suspect all the male Germanna colonists had such certificates but they were probably discarded by the families long ago as no longer needed. The platform out in the woods is the old speakers' platform dating back to when reunions for the descendants of the Germanna Colonists started in the 1950s as a picnic gathering. The Germanna Reunion has been held every year, except one, the weekend of the third Sunday in July since 1957. The flat headstone you showed for Dr. Charles Urquhart is the headstone of the doctor that pronounced John Wilkes Booth dead. The 7 July 1866 date on the stone was his death date. The digital reconstruction of the Enchanted Castle is being redone, as is a new interpretation of Fort Germanna.
