- Many wonder how Jehovah's Witnesses can't see the obvious: that the Governing Body is manipulating their minds. When a person breaks free from 'the truth,' they are often angry at being duped. We look at how the nine guys in upstate New York and their predecessors have been doing it for over a century... and why it works.

Wow this statement is profound and I’m a never was JW but married a POMI. My 75 year old Pioneer Mother in Law is exactly that: a childlike robot. She used to have a personality and it’s long gone now. I still pray for them everyday ❤

Stacey, I once congratulated an exJW on their excellent expose' video of the WTS. I used the expression "whistleblower" to his activism. He said that he never thought of applying that term to his work, since he mostly thought of that word as being used in the corporate or secular world. I explained to him that I believe it's a very appropriate term for what he was doing. He thought about it and said, "Of course!... It's very appropriate to apply the term whistleblower to my activism." Interesting, huh? And so I say the same to you, thanks for being a whistleblower and warning JWs and the world that this religion is a cult that will suck your life away!

This was outstanding work. Out of all the podcast I’ve religiously (pun intended) tuned into, this was the 1st one that was triggering. I have a couple of boys, boys I’ve known for well over 20 yrs that woke up like myself. Two were M.S, w/ me being the Elder.
We often talk, talked last night b4 this pod dropped, about how dumb we felt looking back at how manipulated we were. We all have the same story, grew up in the religion, trusted our parents, tried to confide & confront said parents, only to be outcasted and labeled.
It’s so easy to see the manipulation once u leave, & it’s a master class that starts young. As u highlighted, I told them we have to be kind to ourselves. We had no idea, b/c we trusted our parents & grew up in it.
I’ve now said if u wanna see a master class of gaslighting, and hypocrisy just open up a WT or any publication; watch them point the finger at other religions when they do the same if not worse.
Huge respect to your family!!! We are all triggered by different things....the manipulation is infuriating.....I share your feelings!!

The point that you made about the leaders being fully aware of what they are doing is so important for people - JWs and exJWs - to comprehend, because it reveals the evil motivation behind this facade of a religion - it's a business and the men at the top of this pyramid scheme benefit the most!

Just one of the reasons that drove me out of watchtower. Wanting so much of my time. Someone that loves to pursue hobbies and passions, and being robbed of free time would cause anger and frustration. Working full-time, then hoping to get in a little time for me. Then being made to feel guilty for something that feels right. A movie, a nice bike ride, a puzzle a day at the beach. All considered a waste of time by the elders.
I actually envied other religions. All they required was one hour every Sunday.

You are so right about the addiction people have to their cell phones. I only own a Tracfone and it is only turned on when I am not at home. The internet along with the modern cell phones that connect to the internet provide instant communication plus a seemingly unlimited source of information. All that technology is available at just a touch of our fingers but in my opinion the dark side of the internet and cell phones outweigh the good they provide. I have seen people sitting at tables in a restaurant looking at their phones far more than they are conversing face-to-face. Cell phone usage is so addictive I have heard of groups like AA groups forming to help break the addiction people have to their cell phones.
It's AWFUL....I see entire families at tables staring into their phones....it's beyond bad for our world!

I can definitely agree with the repetition part. I sat in on a zoom this last Sunday. It was challenging to keep a straight face when they answered the same questions 10 times each. And I’m thinking to myself, how many times are we gonna answer the same question and say the same things over and over before we finally wrap it up here. Such shallow teaching with no depth. Very dumbed down … 🤦🏻♀️

Oh the snooze button, so dependable (annoying), so thoughtful (let me f’ing sleep in) and so reliable (like Taco Bell and a trustworthy bathroom). Most of all, it doesn’t mind if I keep my favorite pen next to it. I know, I know, pretty risqué & naughty. Pens & snooze buttons. You sure know how to get the ladies all worked up.

One of your best! Thank you. As a 3rd generation born in, who has been out for decades, I STILL can't identify how I feel. I have to ask people. "Well, how am I supposed to feel?" I genuinely don't know.
Make a choice? Recognise a personal need? Nope.
I function great as a mum and a nana, but as an individual definately not. I have no identity outside of mum and nana because I never got to learn who I am or what I want.
I've not passed the damage on. My daughter and granddaughter are very much free thinking individuals and that makes me think that I did a good job setting them up for great futures, and that means that my life has been worth something at least. Outside of them, everything else just seems pointless.

That's actually quite common for anyone that has been subjected to a Narcissistic Relationship (whether it's from Family, Friends, Work, or Cult(which WT is)).
You are not able to properly develop a Sense Of Self or Identity. You are often too busy either meeting other people's needs or are in Survivor/Defense Mode.
It's when that Narcissistic Abuse and Codependency ends(Trauma Bonds can still remain) that You're left confused and having to fix yourself or seek deeply your true identity.

Yes I believe they are being manipulated I was a witness for 3 years after awhile I got sick of the organization and the amount of control that wanted over peoples lives from what you should do for a living, to who to date, whether or not to have children, who to talk too, how to spend your vacation time or whatever spare time you have it really was ridiculous.🙄🙄🙄

This one caught my attention even as a pimo all those years ago. I remember thinking "did that thrill everyone? Because I kind of think some of the anointed would feel kinda different about this." But nope. You were thrilled. I was thrilled. EVERYONE WAS THRILLED period.
When I go for a walk or going shopping, I leave my phone at 🏡 home.. I love going to the camping 🏕 where there's no connection possible, just the lake and nature. The phone is just taking pictures 📸

I found out the governing body doesn't know Greek or Hebrew... When they were making the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures they removed words because they were creating their own doctrine... They even removed Jesus name and Lord where they wanted it to say Jehovah... Revelation 22:18-19 "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
They have an easy to trace history on all of this!!!

My observation is you can conclude that they knowingly use these tactics. But, the hard part is to know if they think it’s intentional manipulation, or they think it’s gods will. I think it can be both. Because what happens is through the ages the religious manipulation has been refined, and people confuse the powerful mind control results with evidence of god. No individual has to knowingly be creating this fantasy world intentionally for it to work. It can be a natural process filled with good intentions.
I FULLY agree with this! There is an element of ignorance or their own delusion. But the formula they use is by design!
@@survivingparadisepodcast but, it appears that people get much of this control tactic directly from the Bible , therefore they think that it’s designed by god. So it’s hard to know who to get angry at. If they knowingly deceive for the sake of power, or do they have less free will in the matter and are just acting out what they think god wants them to do. Trying to be a good person but just doing it wrong.

For some reason, even from age five, I’ve not been able to be comfortable in any religion. I’ve tried many of them, even the Jehova’s Witnesses. I have found that all religions are just variations on the same theme. Mostly just guilt and fear creating, money grabbing businesses.

Another wonderful episode! The manipulation runs deep! I desperately want to find the miracle 'thing' that opens my parents eyes... But after over 50 years, i do still have hope, but its a battle because of that manipulation. I figure, i never thought id leave, so who's to say who else could wake up! Theres always hope.
