Actually, I've seen Erin Crocker actually race live in a sprint car, especially in 360 winged cars. She was a very good sprint car driver and probably should have stuck with that
Or gone to IndyCar. Most of these NASCAR busts should have stayed and gone the open wheel route. The bigger pay day allures many drivers who would otherwise be solid IndyCar drivers into becoming bad field fillers in NASCAR

Every single female driver in NASCAR needs to be held to the same standard that every other driver is held do. Not on a curve. Take Hailee Deegan for instance - wins a K&N Pro series race, didn't even bring up the fact she's the first woman to win a major NASCAR event. Even her dad barely mentioned it as a side-note "Yeah a little bit of history here" is pretty much all he said.
They need to work their way up and prove themselves like everyone else - and I believe there ARE good female drivers out there that are fully capable of doing so (like Deegan). But being a female won't save you if you choke or are out of your league.

First of all, most females who enter into motor sports do so because there is some form of family connection to racing. Not all but many of them. Do you really think the Force girls would have had the success they have if their father wasn't involved in drag racing at the level he was... the answer is probably not, or at the very least it would have been way more difficult for them. NASCAR has never, since its inception, been a sport that was supposed to be 'all inclusive' because it was created by, for the most part, southern white guys looking to compete against one another for the thrill of it and bragging rights. Historically, most of the women who have been in American racing HAVE BEEN held to pretty much the same "standards" as men because of the rules and regulations by which their respective racing series holds all competitors. And just for the record, Hailee Deegan was not the first woman to win a major NASCAR sanctioned event. That was Shawna Robinson. She had 32 starts in the Goodies Dash Series from 1988 through 1990. She had 3 wins, 18 top 5's and 22 top ten finishes and ended two seasons 3rd in points. To date she remains the most successful female driver to have ever strapped on a helmet in just about any American racing series outside of the previously mentioned Force girls. Women drivers don't really fair well in motor sports because it's not really a sport that was ever intended to include them, just like football and baseball and boxing and most other "typically" male sports. Would it make any particular male dominated sport better to include women just because a part of society thinks they should? You can be the judge of that... I already have my own opinion.

Danica was actually a great driver. She just wasnt a racer-other cars on the track and the way they made her car handle confused and drove her to insanity. Put her in an Indy car, where cars couldn’t get close to each other and absolutely never ever touched, she was pretty good. Crocker never was much on asphalt at all.

Classic case of moving up too soon and not where she belonged. Had she stayed in sprint cars, she probably would have built a solid career and eventually landed with a top tier team. Instead, she crashed a lot on track and in Ray's Holiday Inn room afterwards whilst 'talking strategy.'
Ohh well, at least she's got her own family now and can whip up some Betty Crocker food whenever she pleases.

Great video. Remember this bleak time in NASCAR. As a fan and woman knew early Evernham was playing with more than just her car. Felt really sorry for his wife, kids, Mayfield and Kahne. Lost all respect for the man and her.
He should’ve been banned from the nascar hall fame fame but instead NASCAR and Ray set up Jermey with a tainted drug test and sent Kasey packing also. Nascar never wanted the fact of these two home wreckers of Erin and perverted old man Ray exposed
This is why Evernham fell. Not Crocker's fault. No, it was Ray Evernham's. It screwed over quite a few drivers. Mainly Jeremy Mayfield. Evernham stopped giving a crap and it caused trouble for Sadler, Allmendinger, Carpartier, Riggs, and even Reed Sorenson, as he signed with Evernham in 2008 and he went and gave the middle finger selling the team to Petty, where it didn't help at all. Evernham's lack of caring and the fact he couldn't separate personal life and professional life is the reason why his team fell, and put the nail in the coffin of Mayfield's career. Sorenson's nail in the coffin came after the controversial 2011 release, and it still makes no sense how he never recovered.
The fact of the matter is, I hate Ray Evernham. And this is why. He is selfish. No if, ands, or buts. As Robby Gordon would say: Everyone thinks he's such a nice guy, but really, he's a piece of shit.
Evernham not giving a fuck also cost Gordon the 1999 championship.
Evernham didn’t really quit on the team. He was forced out by Gillette, he gave majority ownership to that clown and killed the team.

Erin, has always been a ' target ', because of the fact, that women driver's are seen as the ' Devil Spawn ', by the ' Good 'Ol Boys ' of NASCAR.

The only thing I like about Evernham is he got Bill Elliott his final 4 wins including the Brickyard 400. But I hated him at HMS - and the way he handle EMS after Elliott retired was slimy as heck. More worried about being balls deep in a young red head than running a race team.

As soon as Evernham hooked up with Erin,it was the start of the downfall of his team to me.

Kyle Hale Driving School he drove for haas but then got replaced by Ryan newman in 2009. That was pretty much the end of Riggs career outside of some truck series stuff and some s&p stuff

Kyle Hale Driving School That really makes me think of how many teams failed in the late-2000s due to just really poor management. DEI and Evernham both come to mind, and also Bill Davis Racing (with the whole Dodge/Toyota debacle). It makes you wonder what could've been for those teams had they just been managed properly and if the competition might be better if those teams had been managed and maintained properly.

I heard tale that she lapped Everham many many times! She was sitting on the pole in more places than Daytona. Everham was always checking her oil, & making sure that rear was well lubed before they got up to speed! Heard she was known for blowing alot more than motors!...etc.

He is also a pretty good announcer. He announced at I-80 Speedway several times back when he was learning how to drive a Kosiski late model on dirt.
I would not call Pastrana a "bust" He really did not run enough races to get much experience.
Pastrana was always better in Action Sports.

Mike Woodring, her former sprint car owner, is my mother's first cousin. Nice guy to chat with about racing. He's now got Paige Polyak driving his #19 machine these days and is doing pretty well!

Erin Crocker’s story is such a bummer if you ask me. She had the potential to be one of the best Sprint Car drivers of her generation, but got lured into NASCAR far too quickly.

Evernham's incompetence as a car owner went beyond his affair with Erin - he squabbled with his engineers and from what I understand the team organizational structure was screwed up almost from the beginning. That he won as many races as he did as a car owner is mind-blowing.
She basically ruined the careers of jermery mayfield, kasey kahne. And well my childhood since those red dodges were badass.

I see Ray and Erin at vintage stuff all the time. Super nice people, and both are excellent engineers. I don't really watch Nascar, just what I saw on Wind Tunnel back in the day, but Erin was a total badass in a sprint car.

put Mike Woodring deep in the pack. His drives to the front were always exciting and he was one of the cleanest drivers I've ever seen. Everybody liked him - and I was
so surprised that Erin ended up in the World of Outlaws and not Mike! I got my physics degree from Union College, Schenectady, NY - huge competitor with Erin's RPI in Troy, NY.

In NASCAR 07, while dominating Whelen Modified in my rookie season I was offered the Crocker truck quite a few races into the season. She was 15th-20th in points at the time and I ended up 5th in points despite missing the first 6-8 races (don't remember exactly how many) and my Tim Richmond/Ernie Irvan driving style caused a couple finishes in the 30s. After that, I took the #2 Busch series ride with Richard Childress racing, now I"m on season 3 running for both the Busch and Cup titles with the late John Andretti's #10 car with Kenny Wallace as my teammate. Kenny is 2nd and I'm 3rd in points, because I didn't decide to do the Busch series until after Daytona and Fontana were over. We're way far behind Tony Stewart, and I'm in the #191 Dodge, which I call an Evernham satellite team because it is painted just like Kasey Kahne's car except the number font is different. In Cup I'm 2nd in points behind Jeff Gordon but the Chase hasn't happened yet, and I've been kicking ass on the cookie cutters and flat tracks like Phoenix, Martinsville, and New Hampshire all year. The only one I'm concerned about is Talladega because I've ran like Buckshot Jones at the first 3 restrictor plate races.
Erin is back to being 8th-12th in trucks and 20th-25th in Busch while running full schedules.
I'll play Freud on CZcams- I'm sure her father's passing had an affect on her ending up with a father-figure in Evernham.
Possible, since he passed very early and was very important to her she probably searched for someone to fill that hole (no pun intended here) and ended up in that situation. I've seen stuff like that more than enough, and from my experience I'd say you're right.

Wow! I remember her racing in the truck series back in 06 and that was it. Never heard about her again and to be honest completely forgot about her existence. And I never heard about the whole thing with Ray Evernham and her until now and now my mind has kinda blown Haha. Great video, love your stuff
Crocker might have done better driving for an established team in the truck series. Evernham's team was focused on cup racing, so didn't have much experience with trucks. Regardless of the personal stuff, a rookie drive on a start up team usually has erratic results.
The real victim in all of this: Ray Evernham's wife at the time of this. Because of the other shenanigans, she filed for divorce.

I honestly think a real issue with women drivers in Nascar is whenever there is one that gets one spark of success they get rushes up to Nascar as fast as possible instead letting the develop in their respective series. I genuinely believe someone like Danica Patrick could have actually won a few races in indycar if she didn't switch over to Nascar. Same with Erin with sprint cars. They're all really different forms of racing and not that they couldn't possibly move over, it just seems like a risk that keeps not planning out.
I think that might explain why Hailee Deegan seems to be playing it slow and gradually building up experience, which I believe is the smart move.

There was a clip that was shown on TV years ago during Crocker's time in NASCAR and it was shown after it got out that Evernham and Crocker were getting really chummy with each other. They showed a Cup race and Crocker was in the crew chief pit box and when their driver won (I believe it was Kasey Kahne), they all high-fived each other. When Crocker held up her hand to get a high five in return, the crewmember looked the other way without doing so and she gave such a dejected look. I was hoping to see it on this clip because I never could find it on CZcams myself. Oh well, still I good video.

All this time I thought Mayfield was released from Evernham just because he wasn't performing well, but I stand corrected, and I also see WHY he wasn't performing well. I feel sorry for him. I guess all this may also explain why Evernham Motorsports as a whole deteriorated so suddenly after '06.

She broke too early. Dullica came along and and could do no wrong. The last race I attended with Crocker participating was a truck race at Bristol. Her competitors cut her zero slack. She was in the way and they beat the tailgate off her truck until she finally parked it (probably advised to do so before stuff got tore up).And I’ll never believe Mayfield had/has a drug problem.
