What I’ve noticed is that before Kooleen apologized, everyone was hating on her repeating things like “why don’t you make a smegsy apology” “why don’t you make a juicy apology” etc. and now that she made this video everyone is coming back like “oh she was such an inspiration” “you slay kooleen” and such.

Mistakes can be blown out of proportion , it's inevitable that both "virtuous" people and opportunists use this situation to serve themselves. If people trully find your contents offensive, they would avoid it, but if they actively show up here to claim that it is, then it's more than just them being "affected" rather it's their way of projecting their insecurities.

When I got online I found out about Kooleen drama, I genuinely thought she did something really bad, I got worried because tons of youtubers are doing bad things now, but everyone is exaggerating. While a lot of attention is on this topic, I would like to make a suggestion for the whole art community:
I have encountered a lot of videos, that suggested a "best method" for drawing something, without specifying, what _style_ or _medium_ they are for. And then I see a lot of comments of young artists, who are confused about all those different existing methods.
Example:
For *animation* you need to be able to draw the same subject from different angles and very often, so not too detailled (hence the grid method is not very useful, constructing with circles is (not sure how to describe the method I mean)).
For *realism,* you need to be able to copy this _one_ pose and include as many details as possible (hence grid method is rather useful, the other one not necessarily).
So how about we all try to specify the advantages and use cases of proposed methods more?
I mean I (and many others) know to take such methods with a grain of salt and in the context of the artists art style, BUT a lot of people seem to struggle with this.

Maybe they are just young or inexperienced and overwhelmed with the magnitute of content.
But even if some are a bit slower to catch on, its still a good thing to make the videos more accessible by emphasizing the purpose of mentioned methods I think :).

I do admit that my previous response was crude and I should have phrased it better, instead of making that blanket assumption. All in all, it does get tiring to see a lot of discourse in the art community stemming from misinterpretations which could have easily been avoided just by understanding that not all rules are the end all be all. However, I'm still hopeful that things will turn out better eventually.

As a black person myself, Kooleen, you don't have to feel the need to actually draw black people. As I heard from many people, INCLUDING BLACK PEOPLE AND ARTISTS, Kooleen isn't genuinely racist. It's just the comments she made despite being known for joking. People can draw whatever they want. She said it was a guideline, not a rule. If you want to draw like her, go ahead! ❤ If you don't, but enjoy her art then that's fine too. Nobody is forcing anything on anyone. @@kittycolours I believe her specific style is manhwa (Korean Comics). Which can have more of a korean beauty standard so it's rare to see african/black features on this style (Large eyes/fox eyes, slim neck for girls and thick neck for guys, pale skin, juicy lips are things that makes up this style).
She gets clout on this manhwa style, clout and likes are her goal so I think what an artist draw really depends on her personal goal as an artist.
If you are referring to skin complexion, there's also manhwa characters with dark skin but conforms with Korean-beauty standard (manhwa style) so yeah it's hard to see african features with this style. I don't think I've seen any official manhwa with black/african characters and it's hard to say how it would be drawn in this style with more Korean standard?

The only thing that matters is that Kooleen acknowledged her mistakes, apologized and educated herself on them. We can only see progression in her actions moving forward, the internet tends to blow things out of proportion but I wish the best for you Kooleen.

Our world's full of tons of artists doing their thing in all sorts of ways, but notice how much you're bothered by Kooleen not doing what you like. It’s almost like you have no other option but her art... Instead of turning everything into a drama, just move on and appreciate the artist whose style vibes with you the most! And seriously, don't even think about telling artists what to draw or how to do it! And yes, even if an artist's showing others how to draw, it's totally okay, she's helping out the ones who LIKE HER style and would be happy to learn that way. As an artist myself, I admit, I have made plenty of mistakes and am learning from them. As an artist myself, I'm still improving. Every artist improves and adapts. Every artist learns from their mistakes. It's part of life.
