He’s d’man! Mr Peterik is unstoppable!
Dude had so many songs. Enjoyed them all!
Oh, I forgot to mention -- probably one of the most talented musicians ever!!!!
This guy is a treasure. I didn't even know who Jim Peterik was until today.
Jim loves music, and the music loves him
Jim Peterik is absolutely incredible, a true musical genius. In addition, I have heard that he is one of the nicest guys in the world.
He is!
I met Jim and the Ides when they were touring on the heels of "Vehicle", but I've been a longtime fan back to the Shon-dels days, thanks to being a big fan of WLS & WCFL radio [station playlists which also influenced our NE Ohio radio stations of the time]. I've been privileged to cross paths again in recent years..these guys are still as commonplace as ever. #oldtyedyeguy #tyedyesanta
Out of all the songs he cowrote, he was in .38 Special mode, that time 'round! God bless you, brother Jim!
Jim Peterik is best known as a founding member of the band Survivor and the co-writer of their Grammy-winning double platinum #1 hit single, “Eye of the Tiger.” But that’s only the tip of the iceberg. Thirty-five of Jim’s songs have appeared on the Billboard Pop chart, including seven Top 10 singles. His first major success came when his original band, Ides of March, took the Peterik-penned “Vehicle” to the #2 position on the Pop chart in 1970, spawning cover versions by Chet Baker and Shirley Bassey. After a stint as a solo artist with Epic Records, Jim formed Survivor in 1979, penning a string of hits for the band, including “I Can’t Hold Back,” “High On You,” “The Search is Over,” “Burning Heart,” and “Is This Love.” While still writing hits for his own group, Jim forged a successful partnership with the members of 38 Special, co-writing classic songs, including “Rockin’ Into the Night,” “Hold On Loosely,” and “Caught Up In You.” Widely respected as a top-notch collaborator, Jim has co-written successful songs with a number of artists, including the Beach Boys, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sammy Hagar, Cheap Trick, the Doobie Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Mindi Abair. The long list of those who have covered his compositions includes Paul Anka, Gloria Gaynor, Tony Orlando, Reba McEntire, Larry Gatlin, Blackhawk, and The Outlaws.
Amazing talent!
Man, this guy is just such an amazing songwriter.
What a songwriter !
Loved those songs and sorry I didn't know who wrote those great ones! Thanks Jim! Keep rocking it !
Wow!! never knew Jim wrote all those awesome songs!! Fantasy Girl to!!! It is amazing to see these songs performed in its original form by the actual writer.
Jim wrote part of the lyrics but most of the music was written by 38 Special!
Not to mention he was the driving force of another 80's band.....Survivor

I met him after an Ides show -- and yes, he is incredibly nice and very sincere!!!!!
Genius! Great musician underated!
Nailing all the falsettos!
I saw him when his current hit was "Vehicle" with the Ides of March,,,lol that is ancient history.
Sick dude songs aren't written like this anymore
Actually, Peterik has written hundreds of songs since leaving Survivor on 7/4/96. Many of those songs have ended up on albums. In relation to .38 Special, my favorite Don Barnes/Jim Peterik co-writes are: 1) To Miss Somebody (on the first World Stage album. Sung by Peterik and Dennis DeYoung), 2) Winds of Change (sung by Peterik, Barnes, and Chauncy on the Winds of Change World Stage album), and 3) Chain Lightnin' by .38 Special
My favorite Jim Peterik and Donnie Van Zant co-writes are: 1) Alive (also co-written with Johnny Van Zant. Originally performed by the Van Zant brothers on one of their albums. Later covered by Jimi Jamison as a bonus track on his Crossroads Moment album.), 2) Chain Lightnin', 3) Changed by Love (On a .38 Special album and on the first World Stage album as a duet between Don Barnes and Jim Peterik. 4 & 5) Midnight in My Soul and Burning With a Reason (on Jim Peterik's Above the Storm solo album. Co-written with Johnny Van Zant).
top top top
Did Colin Hay of Men at Work borrow Jim's riff on Hold on Loosely to write his Overkill? And don't forget 38 Special would have no hits without Jim Peterik and Sullivan writing those tunes..
don’t forget Eye of the Tiger
funny and gread this is songwriting!
come back to survivor!!!
All songs from .38 special.
Yes, Jim wrote these songs for .38 Special. He wrote Rockin Into the Night with Frankie Sullivan (of Survivor) and Gary Smith (of Survivor). He wrote Caught Up in You with Sullivan, Don Barnes (of .38 Special) and Jeff Carlisi (of .38 Special). He wrote Hold on Loosely with Barnes and Carlisi. In most of the songs that Jim co-wrote, he was the primary songwriter.
@@ZenyattaFan1 Sullivan didn't participate in the songwriting session for "Caught Up in You". He claimed Peterik used one of the riffs that Frankie came up with in the song. Another commentator on this video stated that Peterik usually wrote lyrics for .38 Special while most of the music was written by .38 Special. So, it seems likely that what Frankie said wasn't true. Regardless, because of how much strife was between Peterik and Sullivan, for the sake of Survivor, Peterik decided they should just give Frankie co-writing credits for the song and not fight Frankie on the issue. Peterik also stopped co-writing with .38 Special for years because of the strife. Later on, during Survivor's hiatus, he started writing with them again. Which resulted in another top 40 hit for .38 Special on the Hot 100 Billboard chart.
