High cost of collection and double taxation of wealth in addition to wealth tax was the only reason for abolition of estste futy from 1985. Estate duty was levied on the property passing on the death of a person. Mrs . Gandhi was assasinated on 31st October 1984. ED was abolished in 1985. Hence if duty was payable, it would have been levied on the estate of Mrs Gandhi. Poor chaiwala has no occasion to know these things. He would have been selling chai in a nonexisting railway station. Hence this canard against the late Gandhis should be dismissed with all the disdain it deserves. Pray the almighty to protect this man from losing his mental stability.
